Five Guys to Five Guys

On New Year's Eve, I took my five guys (and one lovely girl)
to Five Guys Burgers and Fries.  Sounds like it was just meant for us,
doesn't it?  haha.   We all piled in the jeep and off we went...

....down the road to Beavercreek, Ohio...

... enjoying one last sunset of 2013.

It wasn't crowded at all, which was very nice...

and it was so fun for the big kids to join us!

We let Dad order and pay while we waited at our seats....

some more patiently than others. :)

Yummy food... and the boys are always entertaining....

They won't eat a burger, but Spencer ate two hot dogs (without the buns) and the other two ate fries.  A lot of fries.

Then we went over to the big kids' apartment to watch
The Polar Express.....

and eat warm apple crisp with vanilla ice cream.

And we were still back home in plenty of time to
watch the ball drop!

    1. We had fun! And it was great to get out of the house all together. We need to do this more often....I think it should be one of my resolutions! :)

I should have tried the vinegar! But I'm a ketchup girl when it comes to fries!

    3. I had to google poutine! Oh my.....I do love food, but that doesn't sound appetizing to me. We'll have to ask Linda, Pat, Suza and Laurie what they thing....Oh, and Andy, too! Maybe they all love it?

Had to laugh, too, that Five Guys is right beside Jenny Craig. Hmmm.....

    4. Believe it or not.....I have NEVER had Poutine!
Never appealed to me...think it is the cheese curdy things...
I am glad your 5 guys got to go to 5 guys!
Only been once....too crowded for me!
Looks like you had the whole place to yourselves...
      But...the burger was delish!
Enjoy the rest of your evening...
      Cheers!

  4. I think you should sue that diner for stealing your name! (smiling) And what a charming, casual picture of you and your son! Which one is that? Spencer? And I do agree with Martha about the malt vinegar. It's the only way to properly eat chips, or fries, as you call them there!

  5. Dear Betsy, happy new year to you, my dear friend! The pictures of your trip with your five men (and one girl) to 'Five Men' look so relaxed and merry. You must have had a real jolly good time! So maybe you should start a list, where else to take your men in 2014...
I had to google 'poutine', too. And I must admit that I totally agree with your verdict!

  7. Betsy you are such beautiful mum and your boys all look so much like you, I'm Canadian, Poutine is sold everywhere here of course, brown gravy then cheese curds melted on top, I have never ever liked the cheese curds, but the real authentic gravy is wonderful, too many fakes out there, lol, We don't have it often but now McDonalds is actually selling poutine, we have never tried it, I think making a habit of family outings sounds like a wonderful thing for us all to do! Happy New Year to you and your family!

Yes, family outings...there have been far too many years lost with us trying to do that. The boys don't eat off the menu, so it makes it more difficult! But we're figuring out how to get around that and still make it fun for all. This went so well that we will certainly being doing a repeat!

    1. None of them will eat peanuts. Are there peanuts at Five Guys? Spencer eats peanut butter, but no peanuts...although I offer them quite often.

    2. The Five Guys restaurants in this area have a bin of peanuts in the shell you can munch on while you're waiting for your food to arrive.

    3. I'll have to check that out next time! I just took the boys straight to the tables, so I didn't really look around. The Mr. loves peanuts...we always have a snack canister full of them here at home!

  24. Awwww - precious pics. I especially like the Polar Express one too. It seems the boys were very co-operative when you went to the wedding this summer too so maybe taking them out a bit more will be a treat instead of a chore.

And now I want fries! Yes, I love them with malt vinegar, but most of the time I eat fries with mayonnaise which is a holdover from my British roots.

Okay - here is my poutine weigh-in. I have had poutine a few times - not a huge fan of gravy so it has to be a certain type before I will eat it. I don't mind curds. But here, especially in Toronto, there are a ton of gourmet poutine places, or poutine-inspired dishes on many restaurant menus. All kinds of configurations! The Beer Braised Beef Poutine with Caramelized Onions and Ile aux Grues at Gilead Café near me is a-m-a-z-I-n-g! Absolutely, sinfully delicious. Here is the link if you want to see a photo of it. http://www.blogto.com/restaurants/gileadcafe.

We don't have Five Guys Burger & Fries up here... but boy, it looks yummy. And so does that apple crisp. Sounds like 2014 got off to a lovely start for you... all the best!

    1. We had gone to a Steak-N-Shake a while back and the boys did ok...just ok. You have to order from a menu, so it takes longer. It was loud, crowded and the tables very close together. We survived but this was much better.

Now...that poutine that you say is amazing doesn't sound anything like gravy on fries with curds. ha. I would certainly try that! yum!

I have heard of mayo on fries...and onion rings that way. I've never tried that, but I love mayo so I could probably eat that just fine!

  27. Hi Betsy,

I am not sure but I feel as if there have been changes for the good since the guys have started going to this new school. I know that some of the changes seem to be minor but when added together they seem to be growing. I just think this new school has been such a blessing and hopefully these changes will contribute to more of these outings. It seemed like such a wonderful time for everyone enjoying a fun meal. I really enjoyed the pic of the boys eating their food. It really looked like they were seriously into their food and then apple crisp later, what more can anyone ask for. Okay, okay, a train movie is the cherry on top.

Hope this new year stays full of blessings.

    God bless.

    1. The Mr. and I were commenting on that the other day. We don't know if it's the new place, getting out of school, or just maturing...maybe a combination! One thing at home I've noticed is that they seem a little more interested in the pets. They have Pet Therapy once a week and a room there has about a dozen variety of pets from hamsters to fish to birds....then they have dogs and even a miniature horse brought in for a visit. I can tell that they are more willing to pet a cat if I ask them. Fun!

yeah the boys enjoyed the food. Fries are a favorite of A and H. We encouraged Spencer to try them but he was adamant. haha. He does love his protein...and he's the thinnest. Maybe Dr. Adkins's diet was right. lol....

  28. Just read about toppings on fries. They are about the only thing I eat with ketchup but out here in SoCal a lot of people eat them with Ranch Dressing. Onion rings and fried zucchini also are dipped in Ranch dressing, even pizza. A few places sell a thin gravy with their fries but I have not seen the curds in it. I think I will stick to ketchup, if it ain't broke why fix it!
