Always Be Prepared

I got a couple more things done on my Winter Fun To Do List.
Well, these two might not exactly be fun, but if I was
stuck out in the cold with a broken car or out of the car
I would be glad for these things to be in my glove box
or in my coat pocket!

I put a bottle of water, granola bar, gum, and foot warmers
in the glove box.  I already had wet wipes and hand sanitizer
in there.  I also added a blanket and a roll of toilet paper
to the trunk.  Now I feel prepared for anything. ha.

To my coat pockets I added tissues, lip balm and gum.
Three things I always like to have with me!

  1. You are prepared! That is the first law of survival. The other day I was on my way to see Elizabeth, and realized I was hungry...ate the granola bar in my glove box....now I need to replace it. I like your little survival kits.

    4. Oh, it's always fun to be first and comment on a fresh new post! Doesn't happen to me very often, but I like it when it does! ha.

  2. Obviously you were a girl guide!! Our motto and in the boys,Scouts, was "Be Prepared!"
Great ideas. I wouldn't want to beak down in a car miles from anywhere in your snowy weather. I'd have to take a sleeping bag LOL. Wake me up when it's summer.

    5. haha....I will specifically write a note on the package! haha.
Did you read my comment about what I ate for breakfast?

    6. Ah! yes! Good old Double Decker but watch out for the Crunchie, particularly if you keep your teeth in a glass of water overnight ROLF. They are very hard!! LOL.

I goofed and typed this in the wrong place - hope Laurie M doesn't think I think she wears false teeth!! LOL

    7. That double decker was like our Nestle Crunch bar with a Three Muskateers layered on top! haha.

I have all of my own teeth, thankfully. But I'll remember that when I eat the Crunchie!

Hey, you might have some "takers" for cookies. I bet even Pat would buy a dozen or two!! heehee

    3. Pat? haha...oh, cookies would curl his toes. And cause him woes. lol....

  5. Great job on getting organised! May I be so bold as to suggest a couple more items for your car. A shovel and a box/bag of kitty litter - not because I am expecting you to have the kitties with you, but because it is really good if you are stuck somewhere icy at giving the tyres grip. We have both of these in our cars in the winter and I can confirm they really do help if you get stuck. By the way, it was me who pinned at the things to my Emma Bridgewater board that you had pinned to yours!! I hope that Eddie doesn't sleep until the summer, we need his cheeriness don't we! xx

    1. I have heard of the litter! And I do have a small bag that is unopened and perfect for throwing in the car! Great idea! Do you have an Emma board? I want my every day dishes to be hers. I might have to make that happen this year as a gift to myself. ha. I don't have any but have always loved them!

Oh, Ed would have to wake up daily just to comment. haha.....

    2. No worries Amy, I will not hibernate - I like my food too much. Forgive me mentioning it Amy, but I note the surname Bridgewater and would mention that my cousin, sadly now passed, had the same surname. I just wonder whether you may be related in some way. He was Roden Bridgewater and his wife Gladys and his father was Ted (Edward) descended from the Duke Of Bridgewater. Roden and Gladys lived in Bude in Cornwall and had five children. I wonder!! Wouldn't it be a co-incidence!

    3. Indeed I do have an Emma board! Don't you get an e-mail to tell you who pinned your pins? If you do and you have a look you will see that I pinned most of the Emma's that you pinned! The only things that I have of hers though are a set of 3 cake tins (Christmas ones) and a cake stand (as in yet another cake stand!!). I would love to have china by her, but I am very lucky as most of mine is Wedgwood, so can't complain! xx

      Delete
    4. No, no relation to anyone called Bridgewater. Emma Bridgewater is a designer of china (made in Stoke on Trent I think) - the plates and things with coloured spots if you have seen them? - so your Bridgewater's are no relation to me, and I'm not related to Emma Bridgewater either. Sounds as though you have some very illustrious relations though Eddie!

    5. I adjusted my Pinterest settings so I don't receive all those emails when people pin or follow...it was too much in my Inbox! But I can see them when I go to my boards. I'm looking to replace my everyday dishes and I think I'll look into hers...I've always loved them. Maybe the white with the black lettering would be nice...and neutral...I don't think I would ever tire of it and it would look nice in a grey and white kitchen. Now...can I afford it? I have no idea how pricey it is. ha.

    6. My son added Pinterest to my Ipad....I do not have a clue how to do it!

    8. You will find that you spend hours on pinterest though if you are not careful Linda! xx

      Delete
    9. Linda's going on a month's vacation to Florida,...the perfect time to play around on Pinterest! Linda, my only advice is to add the pin button to your tool bar. It makes pinning so easy! I'm sure you can google a 'how to'.

  6. ok...off to visit with the big kids!

  7. Now you need some waterproof boots (wellingtons?), some hessian sacking to put under the wheels that are skidding in the deep snow, a shovel for the same reason, a bag of salt and some spray de-icer. Oh, and don't forget the sun cream!

    1. add a tea kettle that works through the cig. lighter and I could live in there! hahaha....

  8. nice...i keep hot hands in my car just in case you know...you never know when you might need to stay warm....
and a first aid kit...which i have used far more than i ever realized...

    ReplyDelete

    1. I started buying those hot hands when I began working outside winter auctions. They are great! And I need a full first aid kit in the car...something we've never done!

  9. If I got stuck in my car I'd be woefully unprepared...except for a pack of gum and a bottle of water that freezes solid whenever the temperatures drop. I DID put a blanket in the back seat last week when the 'high' temperature was just above zero, but I took it out over the weekend when I had back seat passengers.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, I felt just the same way. I think our cell phones give us a feeling of security and we don't prepare any more than that. I don't have a full fledged first aid kit, either...just some neosporin and some bandaids! You should throw your blanket in the trunk..that way you'd be sure to have it. The foot warmers are just $1 each at Target.

  10. What a good idea! I'll need to clean out my glove compartment first - it's too full right now, and it's certainly due for a clean out!

  11. Yes,you need tp
Although not sure it would help thee
For if it was that cold and you had to go
It might freeze before it were to show lol

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Oh, you are so predictable
as I knew the tp would be irresistible!
Even if it were to freeze before it hit the snow
I'd still have to give the tp a go.
      haha.

  12. Was just reading an article the other day about this... and I don't even drive! But worthwhile advice. Few things you might consider... a flashlight, a change of clothes (in case you are wet from rain or snow), a flare or reflective triangle so you are not hit in the dark, and a piece of cardboard or carpet remnant to provide traction under your tires.

A lot of other things were mentioned here if you want to take a peek sometime: http://lifehacker.com/30-essential-things-you-should-keep-in-your-car-1263514115 Especially in these winter months where the weather can go from relatively normal to insane in a matter of hours. Happy Trails!

    1. Some great ideas there...the flashlight and flare! I suppose it all depends on how far you are travelling and how remote the location is. I'll take a look at that link...thanks!

  13. Absolutely agree Suza. My partner always keeps an off-cut of carpet in the boot. Great for shoving under the wheels if you get stuck in snow - or mud. He would never travel without it. Also a torch, reflective triangle (necessary by law in parts of Europe) and a high viz jacket. And kitchen roll is good for wiping up after emergencies.

    1. I love the British words here...

      torch ~ flashlight
      kitchen roll ~ paper towels

      Both are great ideas!

    2. Boot ~Trunk?
Oh, and never never ever leave your house without duck tape! We've been known to carry out impromptu repairs to total strangers' cars because we had a roll of duck tape.
(Actually, on long journeys we also travel with a fridge!)

    3. Yes! What you call a boot of a car, we call the trunk!

  14. Im.sure you always are prepared for all Betsy lol
I always go to all parts with my bottle of water in my bag:). I travel in buses or subways normally.
Ah and my book or magazine:)

  15. Trying to be prepared here too--One winter I discovered that a little mouse had been trying to make a nest in my box of kleenex.--- I realize that he (or she) was just trying to get warm too, but gee whiz!!!!

    1. haha...oh, the perfect spot for a nest! Well, to the mouse, not to you! lol....

  16. I should have had some kind of snack with me when we went to Niagara Fall on Sunday. I was so hungry by the time we got to the restaurant back in Fort Erie that I almost made myself sick. :P
I have "Prepared" for winter storms before, but most times I'm just too lazy and figure nothing is going to happen anyway. If I was going to go far, and through vast areas of nothingness, I would definitely want to have a survival kit in my van. Maybe I should toss a bag of MnM's in my glove box.

    1. yeah, I agree that it really depends on how remote of an area you're travelling to. But if your cell battery was low and you went off a ravine and couldn't be seen from the road, it might take a while for you to be found....or you could just be starving after going to Niagra Falls...which ever. lol....

      Delete
    2. If I decide to drive near any ravines in the winter, I'll pack a flare and make sure my cell phone battery is charged. :)

  17. I can never remember any of these things.

  18. Great idea! I think we have become so confident that we forgot accidents and things happen. We have a few things in our car, but probably should recheck it...I would add candy to my emergency kit. Maybe some dog treats too!
