Snow Day

It was a snow day here!
Silly me didn't look outside until I had the boys dressed and
standing by the front door with coats on and lunch boxes in hand.
Then I thought I better check the news! ha.
Years ago this would have been a big disruption with
frustration that their routine was different.
But they just kicked off their shoes and went with the flow.  Nice!

I had a long list of errands to run while the boys were at 'school'
so I had to be flexible myself!  Mrs. Dove here, didn't seem
bothered at all.  Quite peaceful she always is! :)

The snow was gorgeous and showed off the red crab apples

and tiny burning bush berries very nicely!

The pine trees were gorgeous in their flocking and long icicles!

The Mr. was able to come home and let me run to the grocery
and much to my surprise, Harry helped put things away!
A first for him!  It's always nice to see some initiation on their part!

I was inspired to carry the outside silvery theme inside to my foyer table.

I picked up the vintage scale, crystal bowl and black lamp
from the auctions.

And it's always nice to bring out Mr. Penguin again,
along with the vintage Christmas postcards.

Some cats, like Cocoa, were very interested in what I was doing!

Others, like Charcoal, were not impressed at all. :)

  3. That antique scale is quite nice! Do you know anything about it from the auction? I do admire your eye for the old pieces and how you use them in your home in beautiful ways. The Penguin is bloody spectacular! He did get a hardy laugh out of me! I don't believe I've ever seen anything quite like him! What a nice change from the typical santas and snowmen. Your love of snow is a bit contagious and I found myself pining for a little white fluff myself!

    Admiring you from afar,
    Vincent .x

    1. The scale has a date of 1913 on it. I did find out quite a bit about the family, but nothing specifically about the scale...but I've always wanted one and they always go too high for my pocket book! haha. And the penguin is unique...that's what I liked about him. Not everyone has a shimmery penguin in their house. lol....

  7. Last Friday we got a bit of snow. I woke up and saw that my street was clear, so I went to a meeting. When I got there the building was closed; the schools were cancelled!

    2. We had snow when I woke up yesterday, but not as much as I feared. We now have about 2 inches total (including a bit from over the weekend) and the rush hour commute was not bad.

    3. yeah, I saw you weren't getting much snow, but the cold temps are bitter! Here, too!

  10. The touch of silver is lovely. I just have a hard time with all that SNOW. It's so gorgeous....born and raised in CA I guess I will just enjoy it from a distance...and enjoy your pictures. Harry looks so cute helping put things away. I was pretty busy today ~ Had nice sunshine, so I did some errands. Got the great grandsons gifts, and made some more persimmon bread, and have all my supplies for our Family Christmas Potluck. This is a new thing for us.

    1. Family Christmas Potluck....you need to tell me more! Are you hosting or taking food?

I actually saw persimmons at the grocery today! But they were very small, over ripe and $1 each. ha. Now that I know I can get them, I'll watch for some good ones!

    2. It will be at our middle daughter Julie's. Each family will bring a main dish, side dish and dessert. We have talked so we don't all bring the same thing. Julie is doing tamales for her main, I'm doing sweet and sour meat balls (favorite of my son) Michel is bring ham, and I don't know what Myk is bringing..it will be like an old fashioned Church pot luck. My side dish is corn pudding, and going to make that chocolate torte for dessert, and a pumpkin pie for Kaleb who will be home from college..personal request.

    3. That all sounds just wonderful! Make sure you take a picture of that torte!

  16. So much white and yet it is so beautiful. We have been so cold here due to some fierce Santa Ana winds that have been howling as they are blowing past the house. Plus a section of the fence blew down again as usual, thank goodness the neighbor was home and put it back up. The pit bulls were having fun going into their yard and playing with their dog. Trying to keep them warm is a hard thing to do but at least they snuggle together in their dog house and at times are running around playing. One would think that the birds would be unable to fly but it is as if they use the air as their launch pads to fly even faster.

And I love hearing that Harry helped you. Any bit of progress is such a wonderful thing. I feel so happy when I see them happen.

Well enjoy the snow and the white beauty.

    God bless.

Only thing left here is to put the ornaments on the tree...until I spotted another string of lights out on our pre lit tree. Ugh! Time to put on Christmas music and start the fix!
