Some of you may have noticed this page from a magazine that I
had up on my cork board in my new studio. Christel commented on
it and recognized it from being from a Victoria magazine from the
1980's. She's right! I remember being drawn to this photo in a
very strong way even then, before I had any kids of my own or
even before I had a pet. It had such a pull on my heartstrings that
I kept it all these decades in a picture file.
Well, when I pulled out that file this week to fill my inspiration
board, I looked at it in a whole new light. A whole new light
since Lauren has become part of our family. I mean, look at
that sweet little girl! She could be Lauren 18 years ago!
Or...just maybe,...was I getting a glimpse into a future
generation? Could she be a grand-daughter yet to be?
Only time will tell if we ever have a little red haired grand
daughter, but it's fun to imagine why this picture felt
so important to me some 30 years ago!
♥
Fascinating conjectures!
ReplyDeleteLook who's first!
DeleteFirst!
DeletePat and Gloria are worst. :)
Love your post title, Charlie Brown!
DeleteThought someone might notice that! :)
DeleteAHA Before you even mentioned Lauren when I saw this picture on your inspiration board I said to myself "Is that a picture of Lauren?"
ReplyDeleteIt's unreal how much it looks like her!
DeleteOh gosh ,Betsy!
ReplyDeleteShe does look like Lauren....hhhmmm...could it be?
No...not yet...too darn soon...but...perhaps...in the not so distant future♥
Wouldn't that be wonderful?
Ok...I am getting way ahead of myself here...
Great post!
Love the knotted hat...and the plaid coat...
Enjoy your evening♥
Cheers!
Linda :o)
yeah, I didn't mean to hint at any announcement...it's just fun to see how much the picture looks like her...or maybe a grand daughter some day.
DeleteI know....just being playful!
DeleteThat little girl is adorable and she really does look like Lauren! I have a red headed daughter and son, so I'm drawn to them too.
ReplyDeleteYes, you do! I love it...so beautiful!
DeleteThis girl.is really cute and lovely and really look like Lauren:) and remember well Charlie Brown and the little red haired girl. And alwsys charlie brown wss in love of her.
ReplyDeleteLovely picture Betsy!
yes, so cute...and so was Charlie! ;)
DeleteI always loved red haired little kids!
DeleteThey are adorable, aren't they? :)
Deletewe have a little red haired grandson, ten months old, and I am so freaking happy to see that red hair live on in the future. Thought it was lost on me!!!
ReplyDeleteFunny how it can skip generations like that, isn't it?
DeleteI noticed her too when I saw your studio and thought she looked like a cutie-patootie. Interesting that you have kept it all this time... who knows what the future holds? Smiling. I love her red shoes - I had shoes just like that when I was her age. A girl... and a woman... should always own a pair of red shoes!
ReplyDeleteI had black ones....they were my favorite!
Deletewhat a cute little one with her little kitty...love the look on her face....
ReplyDeleteYeah, she seems to be completely enjoying that moment!
DeleteSuch an adorable picture. Her smile is so sweet and I love her plaid dress. She does look like a young Lauren and maybe your heart knew ♥
ReplyDeleteyeah, maybe! ♥
DeleteJust adorable Betsy, I wonder where she is now!! She might see herself on your blog! xx
ReplyDeleteYeah, she would be in her mid thirties now.
DeleteI'm smiling... remembering how those first dreams and visions of future generations started... and the gathering of vintage handmade items... the "hope chest" was started... Oh, the fun to come. =) blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteOh, that sounds like a fun thing to do!
DeleteBeautiful little girl ... such an uncanny resemblance to Lauren!
ReplyDeleteI know...so fun!
DeleteAmazing similarities to Lauren and very intriguing how you kept that picture all these years. I, too, have a habit of stashing clippings away. I enjoy browsing through them. I'm not as organized as you with a file but I do have an draw full of a variety of bits of articles, photos and clips!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day, Sunshine!
Vincent
I bet you've collected lots of interesting bits and clippings over the years. :)
DeleteHmmm into the future you go
ReplyDeleteYou just never know
Could turn out to be
The one who makes you Grandma Betsy lol
hahaha...but I'd have to do something about that name.
DeleteIt just sounds too old for this dame!
lol....
haha nanny Betsy
DeleteBeats Granny
She looks so very much like Lauren. How incredible! It's like a window to the future.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little girl and what a beautiful daughter in law.
Yeah, isn't that amazing? I had purged that file several times over the years, too. This one always stayed!
DeleteHas Lauren seen the picture and if so what did she say?
DeleteYeah, she saw the post today...and agreed the little girl is adorable...and looks like her...and how amazing would it be to have a little one that looks like that some day! Fun, fun to dream and wonder! :)
DeletePRECIOUS. Just precious.
ReplyDeleteI know it will happen...I know it will...but I feel a little short of breath with Taylor being MARRIED let alone being a DADDY.
OH MY!
no worries....not going to happen for a few years still. They've only been married 4 months!
DeleteI see it was photographed at the Peter Strauss ranch. I remember watching him in Rich Man Poor Man. However, I wonder why it is labelled Rituals?
ReplyDeleteOh, it had something to do with the magazine article....which I didn't keep!
DeleteOf course not! I don't suppose I would have either.
DeleteWell, years ago, I would have. I have shelves of magazines! But I've purged and cleaned and simplified. ha. But I am curious, now, as to what the rituals were. It almost looks like it had something to do with autumn...or maybe Thanksgiving!
DeleteI love these photographs! I use to "collect" them too, but one day I just cleaned out and dumped them all. Regrets now! My wife is a true redhead, and we always dreamed of a red-headed child... didn't happen with our two... still hasn't happened with the three grandchildren.... and our first great-grandson didn't do it either. Still hoping though..... LOL.... and YOU keep dreaming too!!
ReplyDeleteWell, I used to keep the whole magazine! And in one of my clean out projects, I flipped through each one and pulled out what I wanted to keep...and little red haired girl made the cut! ha. Here's hoping we each end up with a red head somewhere in the family line! :)
DeleteChristel wins the "Eye Spy" award!
ReplyDeleteThe little redhead is adorable. Her expression, her hat, her tenderly holding the kitty BUT what I love are her socks and shoes!
Classic!
yeah...I love everything about that little girl...head to toe!
DeleteAw, this is sweet. I have one with light reddish-brown hair and one blond. I never expected to have children looking like this coming from me, but you never know what you're going to get. I used to collect magazine pages too, I kept a whole binder of them for a long time.
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks like it might have a little red in it, or is it just the photo?
DeleteWhen you see Lauren on the sidebar and then look at the picture, you would swear it was Lauren but then you know she was not even born as of yet. Really such a cute picture and shows how redheads can be so beautiful. I have a niece who has carrot top red hair and everyone comments on how beautiful it and she is. I had reddish brown hair which is now white and brown unless I dye it. I used to dye it red for many, many years. So many that people thought I was a true redhead.
ReplyDeleteOh and love the snow pictures. We are in the 90's and running the A/C again. But the good news is that my tomato plant is still producing cherry tomatoes. That plant is going on five years now. I guess that is old for a tomato plant. But it seems as if we haven't gotten cold enough in all those years and if they give a frost warning then I wrap it up to keep it nice and warm each night.
Keep warm and I just wish we could have some of your cold while you got some of our heat.
God bless.
90's??? OH my...you need to come and visit me. You could cool down and relax ...even hot tea and coffee would taste better, I'm thinking! :)
DeleteDear Betsy,
ReplyDeletehow nice of you to link me today! Thank you and a warm welcome to everybody who might drop by this way. I like it so much to get in touch with people all over the world through blogging, who I could never dream of getting to know otherwise.
As to the two little kittens: yes it not only is a heartwarming picture, but the little girl really has a striking resemblance to your daughter- in- law! So it could very well be that it will also resemble a future grandchild! I know I kept the magazine all these years, because this little girl looked like the ideal of the daughter, I always wished for, but never had. I tried to find the magazine today to look up the article for you and Christine. But I failed. You would not be surprised, if you ever came to my studio, my library and to the long shelves in our cellar, crammed with magazines from all over the world. As I have been working for garden and lifestyle magazines myself for many years, I kept a huge archive all the time. But now it became clear, that one of the bigger winter projects will be to sort these thousands of magazines! Sigh...
If I should stumble upon the little redhead's story, I will tell you!
Christel
I was just telling Don, above, that I used to keep the whole magazine and then purged down to just the pages and articles I wanted to keep. But with your business, I can see why you kept the whole thing! It will be a fun project to clean them out, although daunting...but during the winter I can see how it would be a fun, relaxing and inspiring little project!
DeleteOh my word! That's who I thought it was!! Then I read the story. Too cool, seriously! Love it!!
ReplyDeleteI know! I think it's pretty cool, too! :)
DeleteIt'd be nice if you could locate that magazine again. Well... another copy, of course. You discarded the original. But you just remember it was from Victoria and in the 1980s?
ReplyDeleteyeah..that's all I know. Looks like a November issue, if I had to guess. It's not that important...I have the part I really like. :)
DeleteHi Betsy .. red haired little girls - history to be ...gorgeous photo though and beautiful child ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteSo adorable, I wonder where she is now.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable little girl. I really IS amazing you were so drawn to that, so long ago. How fun to dream of the possibility of having a grandbaby like this little darlin' one day. We have 8 grandchildren...5 are redheads, so I'm very partial to this picture. =) Actually, this little gal looks very similar to our first granddaughter, Ashtyn. She has beautiful curls too. Thanks for the smiles.
