Bright Visitors

The Blue Jays were especially brilliant next to all of the
finches and sparrows today!
I love it when they stop and look right at me!

  7. I bought another big bag of birdseed the other day. Not sure how often I want to fill the feeder though. I heard they can get dependent.

    1. yeah, I don't fill it in the summer and fall...plenty of seed around for them with the plant life. But once the frost hits, they come to the feeder. I just started filling it again last week. If you start, you can't stop or they will starve. But why would you want to stop? I enjoy them too much.

    2. I think maybe I will fill it just once a week. That way I can enjoy them occasionally and they will not be looking for a handout every day.

    3. And maybe, if you're lucky, it will take them a week to empty it! :)

    1. I moved the feeder up a little high
since Shadow was getting them by and by.
      Not the jays...but other birds
as he'd jump from the ground without saying a word.
      lol...

Remember when you asked if my 14 was a little low?
I forgot that Freckles had earlier joined the show.
But she didn't come back after that week.
So I can't claim her to make the number peak.
      ha.

    3. Shadow catches birds in the air
like his mother, with such flair.
Had to make it harder to reach
cuz he won't listen to me when I preach!
      haha.

  16. Hi Betsy, I love your pictures of your beautiful native birds! And I am looking forward to the ones to come! Today I will start feeding our birds properly. It has been raining for days and is getting quite cold.

    1. It is SO dark and rainy here today! And I'm glad I get to stay home and not be out in it! Yes, you're like me...start the feeders when the cold hits. The variety of birds that have shown up this week has been amazing! Woodpecker, titmouse, cedar waxwings, pinesiskins...I am always amazed and wonder who puts out the call that there is food! :)
