A Little Thanksgiving Decor

I was browsing through Big Lots earlier this week.
They had all of their autumn decor pieces at below 50% off.
A few things jumped in my cart, like this big mercury glass pumpkin.
Even the glass acorn ornaments, which I collect!
They make a pretty centerpiece on the table!

The plastic Halloween pumpkins that I painted joined some corn husk
onions and garlic from the thrift store in this narrow basket for the buffet.

I have a funny story about the centerpiece.
I made it up on Tuesday and during dinner, I mentioned the
great deal I got on the mercury glass pumpkin.  He looked at
the centerpiece with an inquisitive look and said, "Oh, I saw that,
but I thought it was a bundt pan."   lol....oh dear.
I looked at him like he was hopeless and said, "You're kidding,
right?  You are hilarious. You just became a blog post."  :)

I thought it looked a little bit fancier than a bundt pan. ha.
But maybe not as glitzy as this pumpkin.  She's wearing
a sequined gown for the holiday. :)

Any body know anything about the little ceramic purse vase?
It's tag says Purse-Onality.
It was at the thrift store for 99 cents.
Is it as vase?  ha.  I have no idea.

We don't really need a sign to tell us to be
thankful.  I think we're feeling lots of gratitude these days.

    3. Actually, I have to agree with the Mister and Brian. Looks like a bundt pan to me, too! Must be how the male eye perceives it. Ha.

  9. Frankly, I am impressed the Mr. knows what a bundt pan is! I have a couple mercury glass vases that I love. Such a vintage feel. I am also about to receive an interesting, low and long chest of drawers that is a prop piece from where I worked. The outside drawers are mirrored with a bit of mercury glass finish and it's very effective.

Your fall décor is beautiful, Betsy. Fresh and creative. I like how the ornaments are reflected in the mercury pumpkin.

I have seen several gorgeous purse vases that are made of blown glass – some are very expensive. I have noticed them on eBay too. They get their name because of their size and the fact that they have handles. I’ve never seen one that tiny and with a leather handle. I like it. Almost looks like it is for cigarettes… or chocolate mint sticks. Very sweet.

    1. Well, the Mr. knows his desserts! haha.

Your chest of drawers sounds beautiful. You need to start a blog so we can all see it! :)

Love the idea for mint sticks...that's the perfect size.

    2. I will try and take a pic when it comes to show you. Laughing at the Mr. knows his desserts. By the way... I have never seen a sequined pumpkin. I am glad she is standing alone with true diva-like presence. I bet she can hit a high C!

  10. Your centrepiece and other decorations are beautiful Betsy! I'm impressed that your hubby knows what a bundt pan is, but I'm not sure that your lovely new pumpkin looks like a cake tin. I've never seen a vase like your little purse vase, but it is very pretty. Happy Thursday. xx

Need to do a little more investigating on the purse vase. I don't think it's worth anything, but I'd like to know where it came from and what it's really used for!

  14. A creative and beautiful display for your autumn holiday!

I was lurking last night but the hour was too late then I have been in meetings all morning through lunch! But I see The Silver Fox didn't win the prize either. Maybe we can dual it out tonight. Of course, I'd let him win as long as I could have milady.

    Until later on,
    Vincent

  19. My new word for today: bundt pan! Never heard of it before but wikipedia told me all. And I have a friend who has a collection of glass vases shaped like handbags (purses) but hers all have glass handles. Yours is really different. Do you always decorate so much for Thanksgiving? I'm impressed.

    1. that pan is obviously an American thing...haha....

Well, this is only the foyer table and a centerpiece. Is that a lot? ha. I always decorate my foyer table for seasons and holidays. It's just inside the front door. And I guess I always do a centerpiece, too. I thought that was minimal...lol....no decor on my porch or any other room of the house.

    2. I guess it's hard to tell how much is much when you're looking at close ups. And I ought to remember that I usually hang about 15 strings of fairy lights for Christmas plus the tree of course.... But we'd never decorate for anything else. As for a bundt pan: I read it is inspired by a gugelhupf which is an Austrian or German cake. But it's not very English to make a cake with a hole in the middle.

    3. Does that mean you don't have angel food cake, either?

      Delete
    4. That is baked in a tube pan...like a bundt pan but without the fancy sides. :)

  20. Oh Betsy, your decoration is so pretty! And stylish! I do love objects made of mercury glass, but have never seen a pumpkin of that material beforel And I learned a new interesting word: bundt pan. Great. An Austrian, German or Alsatian Gugelhupf has indeed a similar shape, but usually is baked in a rather high pan.Do you make any special cakes for Christmas in Ohio? We have to start with "Stollen" und "Früchtebrot" soon.
    Take care

    1. Hi there! Over here Christmas cakes aren't as popular as Christmas cookies....which come in all shapes and sizes. Gingerbread, a Yule Log, fudge and candy are all popular, too. Mmmmm....it's all sounding pretty good! :)

      I know what a stollen is...but I need to look up a Fruchtebrot! :)

      Delete
    2. Oh sorry Betsy, "Früchtebrot" is especially popular in the Southern parts of Germany. It is made of an unsweatend dough as for bread, containing large amounts of rye meal and chopped, dry fruit like pears, figs, plums. You can store it for months and eat it with butter.
