Out With The Old - In With The New

As I've been cleaning out around the house over the last
few months, I've been looking at things with a critical eye
and seeing what things need to be replaced.
It was last year when I noticed the boys' favorite
divided dinner plates were waaaay past their prime.
But I couldn't find any replacements for them, so
we've kept them, yucky as they are.

I happened to stumble upon these Corelle divided dishes while shopping
online and thought they were a perfect new plate for
finicky eaters who don't like their foods touching each other. :)

A big improvement, don't you think?

  2. They are very nice and in my experience, you can't kill Corelle, so they should hold up a long time for you.

    1. I got a dozen of them, so even if a few do break, we're all set. I've heard that they are very indestructible, though.

  3. Corelle are such great dishes, you can drop them many times and they won't break, this I know from experience, I miss the counter many times, I think someone is secretly moving it! I like these!!

    1. Alex has already tossed his into the cast iron kitchen sink and it was fine! I was surprised...it sounded like it shattered, but it didn't have a mark on it!

  4. Superb!
Now...if you could get them to enjoy more variety...Perfect!
    Cheers!

  5. I have a set of Corelle and they are my favorite set. I didn't know they made divided plates. These are nice. I don't like my food touching either. I even eat one type of food at a time then move on to the next.

  6. They do look much better indeed
I used to agree at my feed
Could have used one of those
    Touching food caused woes
but now I'm okay with it
Moving ahead bit by bit lol

    1. They are fine with them. Alex looked at them funny the first time and peaked in the cupboard to look for the old ones, but then he was good with it. ha.

  10. These are perfect, Betsy! I'm just wondering because I read what you're having for dinner all the time (just looking for ideas), Are your boys fussy at all about what you make? You do such a variety and I could see my kids saying, "Oh, no." to so many things. As your boys don't like things touching, how do they do Minestrone soup? Just looking for answers on how to feed my fussy eaters!!

    XO,
    Jane

    1. Oh, yeah they are fussy. Spencer and Harry never eat when we eat for dinner. They have their set menu and will not stray from it. Alex will eat what we eat and doesn't care as much if food is touching. He loves my minestrone! So my menu for dinner is usually what the mister and I will be eating...and Alex, too most of the time. :) I feel like a short order cook, but that's just life here.

  11. Haha, my son doesn't like it when the different foods touch each other. Usually we just put things in different plates/bowls for him, but I like these plates with the dividers.

    1. Well, if you'd like to try them, I ordered them from the Walmart online store. You might like less dishes to wash! ha.

    2. As the person who washes the dishes, that would definitely be a positive! :)

    3. haha...well, it takes a fellow dish-washer to think like that! :)

  12. I hope the boys are excited about their new plates. I think they look wonderful. But of course I do like white dishes!

  13. Oh My! Are you sure those boys are yours and not mine?! Those are exactly the plates I eat out of. haha. I can't stand my food to touch. I eat most things one at a time. I keep those bigger divider Styrofoam plates for when I have more than 3-things.
My sister once said to me, Jake, that food goes to the same place. Sure it does, I said. Just not at the same time.
And if I eat green beans, peas, boiled potatoes, there better be no juice in them. Drain, drain, drain. When I eat out I have them to put my food in separate bowls. I'm a pain I know. You can't put the sauce on top of my spaghetti. Ewww. I dip my noodles in the sauce. Lettuce is the only
thing that gets to touch the other stuff in the bowl and that makes a salad. ha. Send those boys to me or i'll come live there. Us quirky people have to stick/live together. I'll bring my own plates. :)
My hubby, son nor any of my siblings/family are like me. I think I've finally found my people. ;)

    1. You are just hilarious, girl! :) Hey, you would LOVE when I found at the auction yesterday. I'll have to put it on my blog sometime soon. They are vintage confetti-ware cafeteria trays with all the cool dividers. (look brand new!) Amazing...and bigger than these little plates. You could have a Thanksgiving feast including dessert and nothing would touch. I'll show a photo soon just for you.

  14. I hope the new plates go down well and that they last as long as the old ones. If corelle is anything like Pyrex you will throw them out because you are bored of them before you break them - gosh, I hope so now I've said that!! xxx

    1. The first thing people say about Corelle is how durable it is. I've just never owned any! Happy so far...it just looks so much better..the others were so nasty. ha. I got a dozen just so we wouldn't run out of clean ones with 3 guys...and if a few broke,..but I think we don't have to worry about that!

  17. I saw a stack of those in the Corningware Outlet store in Lake Elsinore Ca. this week. I bet they are a better price at Wal-Mart though. Prices in the outlet store seemed high but they sure had a lot of stuff! Odd that these plates would show up twice in a week when I had never seen them before. Happy Halloween to you and your gang Betsy. Taria

  22. It's funny how children with autism are picky about food touching.
Everything has to be just so. I wonder if changing a plate would matter?
They still might like the old one.
I just read that they do like the new ones up top so I guess my question was answered lol

  26. I got tired of heavy mismatched dishes a few months ago and replaced everything with white Corelle. I got 2 sizes of the divided plates, 3 sizes of flat plates and 4 sizes of bowls. I like them so much! Warning- they are very durable but when dropped on a ceramic tile floor, they shatter into hundreds of pieces.
    Great minds think alike :)

    1. I have heavy pottery every day dishes for the rest of the family. I've had them for years and they have lasted very well with only 1 or 2 breaking in 20 years with 4 boys. The first thing I noticed about these Corelle dishes was how little space they take up in the cupboard! The stack is so short even with a dozen plates. New dishes for the rest of the family is on my wish list. :)
