A Little Home Improvement

I've had 'paint the pantry door' on my To Do List
for almost a year.  Not my Fun Fall To Do List, but the
Serious Not So Fun Chore List. :)
So this week I finally thought I'd get that done!
As you can see, it didn't match the other interior doors
in the house that we painted in 2012.  If you want to
see those black interior doors, click here.  We still love them
and it makes the house look so much nicer!
Just look at that cruddy door.  I couldn't scrub it white
any longer!  Nasty!

It didn't take long for it to look like this!  Nicer!

Yesterday at the auctions, I had this cute little battery operated
cuckoo clock ask me to bid on her.  Of course I had to
with that little bird looking back at me, looking so sweet!

I ended up hanging it on the pantry door today.
What?  You don't hang clocks on your pantry doors?
I know...I'm just strange like that. :)

This clock chimes every 12 hours with a different little
tune, then gives the hour.  Sweet!  It's right at home
with all of our other ticking and chiming clocks.

I'm liking the look...rather autumnal!
And best of all....no dirty fingerprints!

Quite a few things came home from the auction with me.
Many are already washed up and in the Etsy shop, if
you'd like to window shop. :)
A few things for me....some old books and an old
Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook.  I've never had one!
Can't wait to flip through it.  That book on the bottom is
a vintage ledger, the pages are yellowed but clean.
It's never been used.  Really cool.  It will go in the shop soon.

My favorite thing was this 33 piece miniature white ironstone
set of antique dishes.  I'm thinking teddy bear tea party.
I hope it ends up somewhere it will be loved and appreciated. :)

One of a dozen little tea cups and saucers.
Isn't that sweet?

    1. Surprisingly, the black doors was the mister's idea! He saw some in a home on HGTV and loved them. Took us a few weekends to do all the doors in the house....with a few we left, like this one. Still two closet doors to do in rooms that are waiting for a total do-over. ha. Now I'm inspired to get cracking on that list! :)

  10. The door is great. Love the color, and little clock is perfect. Love that a few touches can just make something so special. I have given away all my miniature tea sets. One of the things I had to do when we moved after retiring. But there were several little girls in our church that were happy to get them. None of my granddaughters wanted them (too old) and the rest of the grandkids are boys.

I have my original Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook and use it from time to time. Sometimes it has something modern cook books just don't cover.

    1. I'm sure those girls loved getting those tea sets! I have one..but it's much bigger than this tiny one.

I think some of the old simple recipes are the best! I have a Betty Crocker Cookbook that I still use!

    1. You can do a lot
      with a coffee pot.
      Put paint on a door
      and a whole lot more!
A mountain of laundry is done
before the day is hardly begun!
      lol....

  12. I'd be afraid to hang something breakable on a door that gets opened and closed all the time!

    1. I used a nail with a large, flat head so the clock can't slip off. You actually have to lift the clock up to get it off. :)

  13. I love the look of these dark doors!

  14. That is the sweetest door ever! You have one of the best jobs and the little mini ironstone set is precious.
I don't think I've ever seen a battery operated cuckoo clock. Now I have and I like it.
I'd love to paint our doors but they are solid wood, stained light but i'm so tired of the brown. Hubby would freak as i'm the one that insisted on the solid wood. One more thing he was right about BUT don't tell him I said so. :D

    1. If I had solid wood doors I probably wouldn't paint them, either...although I've seen it done and it's beautiful! You could always give them a darker stain for a change....sounds like a lot of work, though. ha.

  16. Hi Betsy .. what a great improvement your pantry door is - and I love the clock - interesting how and when it chimes .. that is some sweet little tea set - great as a Christmas present for some little girl .. The gardening, cookery and general household books look to be fun to have a gander at ... do you say that - look at!

    Cheers - Hilary

    1. no, we don't say gander, but I knew what you meant! You Brits are always saying something charming. :)

  17. And nobody said you were cuckoo? Cuckoo about cuckoo clocks...
I think every woman should have a red and white checked cookbook. It's only right. I have one that used to belong to my grandma. I think one of my sisters has Mom's. Every once in a while I take "gander" through it. :)

    1. I'm going to take some time this weekend and look through that red checkered cookbook! :) or a gander, ..that sounds even more fun. :)

  18. Best cookbook in the world. I suppose I shouldn't say this, but I've had mine for 44 years (yikes), a wedding gift, and I still use it....tried and true stuff! Love your black door. I had a black back door in our previous home and loved it. My pantry door is white and hard to keep clean too.....with Bobby G's. grubby hands on it all the time. I have thought about painting it black. I have black countertops and white cabinets. I think you have pushed me to do it. :) Thanks for the inspiration. xo

  22. Looks very stylish indeed! And the cuckoo clock I do love. I happen to live near the Black Forest in Germany, where they first made these kind of clocks.
