Pale Means Old, Dark Means Old

I was browsing through Pinterest
the other day and clicked on
this link here, about 10 make-up
mistakes many women make that
make them look older.  Of course,
I was intrigued! ha.  Had to laugh that
I was doing 7 out of the 10!
No kidding!

 1.  Don't use black eye liner.  Oops!
 2.  Don't put foundation on your
      entire face.  Oops!
 3.  Don't finish all over with
      powder.  Oops!
 4.  Don't use mascara and liner on
      on your bottom lashes.  Oops!
 5.  Don't use too much under eye
      concealer.  Oops!
 6.  Don't use too dark of a eye
      brow pencil.  Oops!
 7.  Don't use lipstick straight from
      the tube.  Oops!
 8.  Don't skip blush.  No problem.
 9.  Don't use too much lip
       liner.  I agree!
10. Don't use dark lip colors.  No
       problem. ha.

I also read on another link not
to color your hair as dark as it was when you were in your 20's.
Hmm...guilty again!

So, I thought maybe it was time
for a few changes!  I bought
a hair color 2 shades lighter.
And I'm getting my hair trimmed
Friday....and I think I'll grow out my bangs.  I've had bangs since
I was 20 years old! Or do bangs make you look young? :)
And maybe I'll get some brown eye liner instead of
black. haha.

I mean, I need to live forever, so I might as well look young doing
 it, right?  haha.

Nobody ever has to worry about me using really dark
colored lipstick or too much lip liner, though.  Nope.  :)

  1. Yes, sometimes black can look very harsh. And I know certain shades of red lipstick can make even white teeth look a bit yellow. Depends on the "look" one is going for though. I have to tell you about a new "mascara" that lines the eye at the same time. Very cool.

  3. Yikes!!! Guilty as charged!
I use eyeliner inside my eye...
Mascara on ALL lashes...every one I can find!!
No eyebrow pencil, foundation or concealer here...
    Lots of blush!! :o)
    No powder...
    No lip liner...
    NEVER dark lipstick...hate that!
As for the hair...been dying it blonde since I was 16...now streaks to blend with the grey!!!
BUT...I am a LOT older than you Betsy...so...
I don't think you should worry!
    You look beautiful to me...

    1. every one you can find...haha...me, too! But I have seen a few faces on Pinterest with mascara, eye liner and shadow on the eyes but nothing on the bottom lashes and it is a really fresh, nice look. You can do all you want on the top, just not the bottom.

Blondes have it so much easier...just highlight and you're set!

You are supposed to use eyebrow pencil, though..it makes your eyes look bigger. Just don't go too dark, evidently. ha.

Already have a start on the bangs....resisted trimming them weeks ago.

    2. and eyeliner is good...just not black!

    3. I don't even know how to put on eyebrow pencil!!
I don't even pluck my eyebrows!
No mascara on the bottom??? Difficult for me to picture...
My eyeliner is grey...eyeshadow kind of charcoal...
Tried the brown eyeliner...not ark enough for me...perhaps I should try again...

    4. not Dark enough! should have read this first!!

    3. yes, old habits are hard to break! We get comfortable! But these are little changes...I think it will be fun to try. BB cream is all the rage...haven't tried it yet, though. I'm too busy using foundation and powder...clearly a no-no! HA.

  8. I think I passed a lot of these rules but only because I like to fiddle with make up and these things will definitely make you look old. I only disagree with the liner and mascara under the eyes. I line my upper eye with gray (I have brown eyes and it looks prettier for some reason than brown). Then I use brown eyeshadow under my bottom lashes, lighter for day and darker for night. You want to create that shadow that your lashes makes so don't make the line too thin, and then use a little mascara. Your really can't even see the eyeshadow or line, it just looks so natural. And if you want to lose the foundation and powder, I've tried everything and Bare Mineral powder works great. It cover everything and evens out redness, whatever. And you can't even tell you have anything on.

Good for you for trying something new with your bangs. I wore bangs all my life up until a few years ago and it's amazing all the different ways you can wear them. Go for it!!

    XO,
    Jane

    1. well, thanks for the great advise! I don't think there are hard and fast rules for everyone, but it is easy to think you're doing something great and everyone around you knows it's outdated or whatever. Never tried Bare Minerals...but I've heard good things!

    2. I got grey liner today to go with my brown eyes. :) I already had brown, which I put on this morning, but I honestly can't tell the difference between it and the black. Grey should be softer, so we'll have to see! :)

  9. Betsy you are lovely! And KEEP the bangs. They make a person look younger and they are sexy and flirty. And lucky with having dark coloring. I've always envied people with dark hair and eyebrows.
Blonde/fair skin/green eyes isn't all that it cracked up to be. I always wanted to be Italian and I looked like I stepped off the ship from Sweden. :D
I don't know about the hair color as I've never colored my hair, but I think you're still young enough to wear your hair color darker. I wouldn't have known you colored your hair if you hadn't said. Can't wait to see the lighter color when you try it out.

    I'm a little guilty. 2 out of 10

haha! I use foundation on my whole face and I use a finishing powder. I've been using Bare Minerals for close to 10-years. Love mineral makeup and will never go back to liquid.
When I was young I had waist length, board straight blonde hair. *natural* Fair skin and lite colored eyelashes/eyebrows. I was a Mod Squad in waiting. I used brow pencils and eyeliner made for blondes with green eyes. I still do the same today. Remember when the eyeshadow companies use to do the made for your color products?
Now that hair is turning gray, short/spiked and still shot with honey blonde/blonde. I'm still using the same color blends. I use a brown shadow or a purplelish color. A eyebrow pencil for blondes and a grayish/brown liner. I smudge the liner for a smoky look and never wear the liner inside the lid.
I'm more into the satiny lip gloss and rarely wear colored lipstick and if I do it's a mocha color.
I really dislike change and being fair skinned I look garish in bright colors so I've stuck with what always looked best on me.

This is an interesting post. I've did the same thing for so long I never think about it.

    1. A green eyed blonde....sounds lovely! You're the second to mention bare Minerals so I'll have to try it!

So you like the bangs? I've worn them pinned back a few times...working auctions outside when it's 95 degrees...and it was nice to have them out of the way. But I do think they make eyes look bigger and yes, maybe make you look younger. I've always cut my own, so I could lop them off again if I get to feeling old and small-eyed! LOL! And hey...if they make me look flirty and sexy, maybe I'll trim them up tonight! :) ha.

Two out of 10...you are good, girl!

  10. My daughter works in a day spa here in Bend ... the only store in Bend selling Bare Minerals. They simply cannot keep it in stock. Women have become enraged when told 'sorry, it's on back order.' Enraged! funny ............

    2. It's my close-up vision that is difficult. The farther away something is, the clearer I see it, unless of course it is too small to see from that distance.

    3. Maybe on your fall list you can add a trip to the eye doctor. :)

  12. I agree with some of the others I only use bareMinerals products. They are natural and not so heavy. I don't use the foundation or powder, I use Mineral Veil. It is very lightweight and covers well. I use their powder eyeliner and no mascara. But I do use black...uh oh : )

  13. I use, um...Chapstick. LOL. Not much of a makeup person. I barely know how to put it on. You look very young, I just have to say. I can't believe you have a married son, you look much to youthful for that. :)

  15. Speaking of mineral makeup. Physicians Formula at Wal-Mart is a good one too! I keep the PF in my travel bag. As I don't wear makeup everyday the stuff last forever. I've also ordered from Signature Minerals. They have a perfect under eye concealer in the sunshine colorway that works so well. As long as it's a mineral makeup i'm happy.

ps. They are 7 of us kiddo's. Mom was green eyed, Dad was blue. I'm the only one with green eyes. Everyone else got the blue. Except for one brother. He got one green eye and one blue eye.
