Auction Finds

Here's a look at the goodies I found in the trash at the auction

  yesterday!  First is this framed lithograph poem about a Bobolink.
John Drescher Co. NY and it's No. 85.  circa 1900.

Quite dirty, but amazingly not damaged or broken after

all these years and a day of people rummaging through

all the box lots.

And here it is all cleaned up!

I wiped the poem with a dry towel,

used some Windex on the glass and

Liquid Gold on the frame!

And I put fresh cardboard and pretty paper on

the backside.  It's all ready to hang in my home.

I had to look up a Bobolink!

Turns out, it is a distinctive songbird of open grasslands.

And it's the only American bird that has black underneath

and white on the back!  They are found throughout the 

entire northern half of the United States and up into the

southern parts of Canada.  And evidently, as the poem says,

their lovely song can brighten even the greyest of days! :)

A set of brown transferware salad plates was left out in the

yard, too.  Not a chip or crack.  It's called Peach, from

Johnson Brothers.  Lovely!

And this sweet little book printed in 1899.

I have a collection of wood boxes, so this caught my eye.

Pretty dove-tailed detailing and a hinged lid.

Here's the bottom of the box.  Hygieia Chalk from 

The American Crayon Company.

I guess it was a sepia kind of collection I found!

Well, there are my treasures! 

I know I always say this, but the things that are left were bid

on and paid for by customers.  They took what they wanted from the

box lot and left the rest for the trash.  I guess my tastes are just

different from theirs.  haha.  Now, how fun is that? :)
