my new sandals
"1972: First woman falls off her cork sandals.
Millions follow." ~ Vogue
I remember my first pair of cork wedges and it was in the 1970's!
I had just gotten my driver's license and it was my first
shopping trip out all by myself....a trip to the mall for a
pair of new shoes. They were my favorite shoes and I wore
them almost every day. Fun memory!
I've never, however, fallen off my cork sandals, thank goodness!
Now I just need a tan! But with frost still on the
ground in the mornings here...that isn't likely to
happen in the near future. ha.

I've been wearing high heels for 25 years, including Jimmy Choos and Louboutins! But wedges are without a doubt the most comfortable heel to wear.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are...and cork is especially comfortable to walk on! Thanks for stopping by, Donna! I think I've seen your pretty profile picture around the blogs. :)
DeleteGosh I miss wedgies...they were soooo comfortable...And I never fell, either!!
ReplyDeleteI have kinda become a "flat" wearer the last few years...
But..nothing shows off a ladies legs, better than heels...of any kind!!
Enjoy your evening...raining here again...ARRRGH!!
Love the new header...great feeder!!!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
and flats are really 'in' right now!
DeleteWe have a clear night...I'm going to try to find the Pink Moon!
the little bird house was at the thrift store! :)
REALLY??? Great find...sorry, I thought it was a feeder!!!
Deleteyep...it was brand new with the tag still on it! yay!
DeleteAt first glance I thought that said "wedgies" but cork wedgies would be terribly uncomfortable!
ReplyDeletehahaha.
DeleteDon't fret about that tan, Betsy ... just slather on some instant bronzer, the kind that washes off in the shower! It's great stuff! (I did fall over on a pair of wedge shoes once, ouch)
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea....
Deleteyou fell once? Well, you and millions! :)
Great sandals! I had cork wedges back on the seventies, too. I would probably fall off them if I tried to wear them now : )
ReplyDeletewith the little platform under the ball of your foot now, they don't feel as high! But falling with that probably hurts your ankle even worse. haha.
Deletei have never worn cork wedges...smiles...
ReplyDeletewedgies...ha...that comment made me laugh loud...cork wedgies...ha!
now a pair of leather sandals and you got me...smiles
yep, cork wedgies would be really, really bad. Oh dear...
DeletePat will have a field day with that...
LOL your twin set the bar
ReplyDeleteWith wedgies near and far
Should have known he'd do that
But I'll be a good cat
And let you fly high on a flag pole
Or have a new hat as a lofty goal
Oops maybe not
Will never understand why big shoes are hot to trot
Break your feet and can't even run away
Even my broken rump can catch one in those things on display haha
Didn't get the flag pole
Deleteor new hat goal.
And they aren't big shoes
just tall
My feet are actually small!
hahahaha.
And the reason is very clear.
It's because they are just so cute, my dear!
haha going all dear
DeleteThat causes fear
I remember when they came out with the wedges. I bought a pair and fell more than once. I think it was while trying to run in them. But then when they came out with those black rubber flip flops that became the rage, I slipped and fell even more. If there was a drop of water on a slippery surface I would find it. In college I was walking between two of my friends and did not see the small puddle. My feet started to slide forward out from under me and I was on my way down, but both of the guys grabbed me under my arms just in time and saved me. I think they were so used to us slipping in those shoes that they knew what to expect. I don't remember the guys falling as much as we girls did but they slipped in them too. Then someone taught us to take a rock and scrap all along the bottoms of them and that gave us more traction. I think they finally fixed the bottoms and a lot less slipping and sliding going on.
ReplyDeleteI too usually wear the flat heels nowadays because it is safer and more comfortable. But I find that if it is only a 1 or 2 inch heel then I am still okay, and if they raise the toe area then it is easier too.
Maybe someday they will come back out with bell bottomed pants again, and shoulder pads, and Go-Go boots. Oh how we loved those boots...
God bless.
haha...oh, that's a cute story! I'm glad you had friends with muscles and quick reflexes! :) One shoe that I have never owned and think are ugly are crocks. Ugh.
Deletego-go boots, yes!....shoulder pads? no. hahahaha.
These sandals look beutiful and I love them.....and I have to buy boots LOL
ReplyDeleteor something similar, you know in this moment I only have differents sandals:)
yes...you have to put your sandals away soon and wear boots! Oh, but you get to wear sweaters, too...and make comfort food. All of my favorite things!
DeleteYeah I know but still Im using my sandals:) I have to look for boots:)
Deletewell, you have a couple of months before winter!
DeleteI wore wedges back in the 1970s, but now my high heel days are over :-(
ReplyDeletewell, flats are in, too...and they have so many cute ones!
DeleteI had the 70's cork wedges, too. And remember leather clogs! lol! I'm glad wedges came back in style as you get the height, but not all on your toes. I laughed about your appliance breakdown on your sidebar...we have things go in threes and it's usually the vacuum, toaster and coffee maker!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
oh clogs! I had forgotten! hahaha.
DeleteThrees for you, too? It's usually our coffee maker, too! We were cringing when the first thing broke. Our furnace and refrigerator are 25 years old. We feel like any day now they will go. Hopefully not in the same trinity. hahaha.
I used to wear them all the time! sandie
ReplyDeleteDid you? Well, they are cute and comfy, so I can see why!
DeleteYour feet make those shoes look fantastic!
ReplyDeletehaha...aw, you're so cute. :)
DeleteI remember 70's !
ReplyDelete:-)
Pierre
me, too! Even though I was just a teen! :)
DeleteOh they're gorgeous!! So having a shoe envy moment here! LOL! Hope you get to wear them outside soon! Take care
ReplyDeletex
shoe envy...hahaha.
DeleteI do remember those from the seventies and I loved them too, now I think how dangerous they are!
ReplyDeleteoh, no they aren't...they're less dangerous than regular heels!
DeleteI just bought myself a pair for this spring! I wish it would get warm enough to actually wear them. Those are so cute!
ReplyDeleteah..great minds, right? Yes, we need warm weather!
DeleteGlad you're in no danger of falling!
ReplyDeletesilly...
DeleteI stick to flat shoes these days, but I love your cork wedges. They will be so much fun for summer!
ReplyDeleteThanks...I can't wait to wear them!
DeleteCongratulations on the wedges Betsy, absolutely love them and I think that they're really going to suit the Summery kind of mood soon as well, they already do in fact!
ReplyDeletethanks, Matt....as soon as it's warm enough, I'm wearing them!
DeleteI'd be 6' tall in those!
ReplyDeletehahaha....ok...maybe you need a shorter heel. :)
DeleteOh those are darling, Betsy. I love the color. It's been so fun going through the alphabet with you. Wow almost to the end.
ReplyDeleteI know...can't believe we're near the end! It was fun, but I'm glad to be at the end, too!
DeleteOh forgot....love your new header!! So very lovely.
ReplyDeletethank you....it was a pretty spring rain...I loved the soft colors showing in the window!
DeleteSeriously, I have been thinking I need a pair of these! lol Not too high though, can't be falling off of them in front of my students!
ReplyDeletewell, make sure you get the cork...it's like walking on pillows...very comfy!
