Auction Day

I worked at a really nice estate auction today!
Before we got too busy I snapped one photo and then
a crowd of people blocked my view for the rest of the day!
So, here is one picture.  We always seem to have
very cool antique lamps.  I love the prisms.
But I can see bringing that home and having boys with
autism laying their eyeballs on those prisms to get some
sort of visual stimulation out of them.  And I can see kittens
batting at them, too! lol.  It's probably best that I left it to others!

I bid on a few things and took some things from the trash, too!
I bid on this huge bird feeder for just 50 cents.  It's full of
cobwebs but doesn't look like it's ever been used.
You know I'll put that to good use!

The big marble slab with the beveled edge was in the trash.
It's large...maybe it was a table top.
Not sure what I'll do with it.  It needs a good cleaning
so will have to do an online search on what to use for that.
Maybe a big cutting board to keep on the kitchen island?
It would be great for rolling out pastry dough
or holding a hot tea kettle.

The frame was in the trash, too.  I'm thinking chalkboard
or cork bulletin board...something like that.
Maybe it will end up on my etsy shop!

And the last thing I brought home got some raised eyebrows from
The Mister. lol.  He said he was surprised I liked it, seeing how gaudy
it was.  But it's going to be one of those before-and-after
projects.  Lots of neat pieces of vintage jewelry were mounted on
a framed board as a holiday decoration.  I love the tree itself,
but not the trim, mounting or frame.  It also has tree lights
and can be plugged in.  I think that will go away, too. ha.

Stay tuned to see an "after" picture sometime in the future.
Can't wait to make it look awesome!
I'm also curious if it will go in the shop or
if I'll want to keep it!
One of the auctioneers told me that an auction
next week has a mannequin completely covered
in pieces of vintage costume jewelry.
Hmmm....should I?  ha.

    1. Oh, I'm planning on keeping the tree intact. The pieces are glued on very well. But I think it will look a bit classier and less gaudy when I'm done. Although, I did see a pair of earring on there I wanted to take off...but the glue is too much! haha.

  7. Vintage costume jewelry is valuable if you know your names or eras. I have most of my mother's & some of my grandmother's vintage costume jewelry.

    1. That is very true! It would have been worth a lot more if the backs weren't removed and they were glued to a board. ha. But I'll still enjoy it when it's fixed up.

  23. Interesting idea I saw once for vintage brooches, particularly ones with rhinestones. The brooch is opened and the pin part of it is stuck in the side of a candle - all the way in so the face of the brooch is flush with the candle. Then the brooch face is lightly pressed into the wax. The pin anchors it. When the candle is lit, you have this pretty, shiny reflection that twinkles and glows in candlelight.

  24. Oops - meant "the BACK of the brooch face is lightly pressed into the wax..."
