Random Thoughts

Socks, Marmalade and little Shadow

  1. Apparently, the warmest spot in the house is on the kitchen rug!  It also guarantees you won't miss any time the refrigerator is opened!
  2. Tuesday is the last day of Christmas break.  Wednesday, I'm a free woman! ha.  Actually, it's been quite enjoyable and I'm not dying for them to leave the house, like I usually am.
  3. Speaking of school, our village built a new building which has just been completed.  Since the other was built in the 1920's, you can imagine the huge changes and increased quality...including air conditioning!  Come spring, that will be such a wonderful change!  I'm anxious for the guys on Wednesday.  That is a lot of change...everything will be new and unfamiliar except for the teacher and aides.  If you think of them, pray that they have a great transition, won't you?  I requested a chance for us to visit the classroom early, (teachers are already there) just so they could have a preview before the big day, but that was rejected!  Hmm.  I could say (rant) a little on that, but I won't.  I did tell The Mister tonight that if Alex has an anxiety attack and tries to rip someone's head off, I hope the one that said no is the victim.  lol...  This is special education, people! Sigh.
  4. Pinterest sure is fun, isn't it?  I have enjoyed it very much in just the month I've started using it.  Now I know what all the fuss was about!
  5. I got on the treadmill today after a 6 week break.  Did you know that if you eat Christmas goodies every day and don't exercise, that you will gain 5 lbs?  Yes, it's true.  Yessiree....lol....  And you know what?  It actually felt good! (the treadmill...not the 5 pounds. ha.)
  6. I stopped adding cayenne pepper to the bird seed and I haven't seen my pesky squirrel!  Actually, I think Kim, squirrel lover that she is, sneaked over in the night and rescued him!  It's either that, or the cats feasted on squirrel stew one night. :)
  7. I cleaned out my kitchen pantry today.  It's deep, so the things that get pushed to the back of the shelves can easily be lost and forgotten.  Things like a box of Bisquick that expired in 2009. lol.  Apparently, I don't use Bisquick but once every 3 or 4 years!
  8. I really like this quote I saw last week....  "Words can be kind or words can be mean.  It's up to you in 2013"  What a great thought.  Mean words can sting even months later, can't they?  Wouldn't it be nice if everyone tried to be a little kinder?

  1. that stinks on them not letting the boys come for a preview...i had to fight for that here with my aspie kid i worked with ...how odd they are so resistant...back to school here today...not bad for a first day back....ha, any bad hairball days?

    1. good for you for fighting for it...I'm sure his parents appreciated that. I thought it odd, too, and was shocked, actually. A smooth day for the boys benefits the entire school.

no hairballs...and you know, we don't have that problem...maybe the do it outside. ha.

  3. Bet the kitties like the smell in the kitchen too.

I went back to the YMCA today...it did feel good, and I gained some too. But felt so good, I had a banana instead of the leftover fruitcake. It's a start ~ haha

Will keep the boys in my thoughts and prayers and hope the new school rooms work out for everyone.

  4. I hope all goes well with the school, I gained a couple of pounds too, yuk! Time to lose it!!I wish I had a pantry, I did in my house but not now, no room in this mouse hole off a nest!

  5. Oh I do hope the boys adjust well to the changes!

#4. Yes, so much to love about it!
#5. ha, yep! I faced the music today as well!
#8. I've been pondering that all day. Isn't it true that the ones who are hurting are often the ones to say hurtful things? Or in the case I was thinking about, some folks try to control you through hurtful words but in the end they end up looking very immature and revealing secrets about themselves they have hidden even from themselves for years and years. Does that make sense?

    1. oh yes, yes, yes...makes perfect sense. In my case I think it is control...and in three personal cases, when the control was lost, they became meaner, if that's possible. lol...And yes, I think there is some hurting on their part..and maybe immaturity in how to handle that to begin with. We must have been on the same thought pattern today.

I have enjoyed seeing you on Pinterest...and have repinned several of yours! let me know how that laundry sauce works, won't you? lol....

    2. well, my conclusion for todays ponderings were this. God can redeem even those negative comments that were meant to hurt us and He has given us what it takes to live above the line. It's all about choices and agreeing with Him. Not always easy, but still possible.

lol-I've had the ingredients for that 'sauce' for several years already. just need a spare moment when I think about it to actually make it and I pinned some of your pretty Christmas cookies :)

      Delete
    3. living above the line....love that. :) And when you do it, it's liberating! I read last month a great little writing on breaking the cycle of bad behavior....and choosing to live above it. Not always easy, but you're right...God can certainly help. :)

I told The Mister about that sauce and he said, "Is it really worth all of that work?" ha.

  12. Aw, Betsy! Thanks for acknowledging my squirrel loverness! I'd take all your squirrels for you if I could. Just remember, if they have their own feeder they will be trained to just use that. Has worked for me for years and years...I just can't train the birds to leave the the squirrel feeder alone. And be sure to give the little sweeties the same seed. I am such a sap for those little bushmen! Wynken almost came in the door the other day when I opened it, but she got freaked and skidded backward! :)
Your cats have become great indoor guys.

    1. haha...was hoping you'd see that. :) I will admit that those squirrels are so cute! My great grandparents had them coming up on their porch and taking peanuts from their hands years ago. So sweet!

    2. I want to know how you "train" a squirrel?

      Delete
    3. We'll have to have Kim give us a demonstration. :)

    4. I knew someone was going to ask that. I guess I'm a squirrel whisperer. I think it is all in the repetition and my high pitched voice that my family says I have at times. They come when I call better than my cats did, and they even come out at parties and get their peanuts from our hands. I spend a lot of time outside with them in the summer and I don't know they just come up to me and are not afraid. I've trained about 7 of them to come up and take the peanut out of my hand and I think their mothers tell them what to do, because each new litter always has a special one that instinctively knows to not be afraid and how to come up when we are outside. It probably all boils down to that I always have unsalted peanuts in the shell for them at their (my) beck and call!:)

    5. Well, I think that is just the neatest thing! They do learn to recognize a voice and trust that person...I've seen it here with the cats and birds when I call them. So cute to be able to do it with the squirrels!

  18. Hi Betsy .. that's a little silly not letting the boys see their revamped school and classroom - remarkably stupid. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow ...

I love the quote "words can be kind, or words can be mean - it's up to you in 2013" - wonderful words ...

Good luck tomorrow - cheers Hilary

  19. Oh, the boys NEED to have been familiarized! Our Sam is going to have problems too. We are psyching him up for tomorrow BUT he claims he is NOT going to school ANY more. Oh dear. We are hoping a visit tonight will inspire him to want to show up tomorrow!

    1. Oh Sam! Love it..haha....hope he decides to go without a struggle! We're going to take the boys to the open house too, but that's not the same as a quiet building without a crowd. It will all work out, I'm sure. :)

  20. Wishing the boys a smooth day at school tomorrow. Love the kitties all cozy in the kitchen. And love the quote! Some mean words never go away...how sad. Forgiving is necessary, but sometimes forgetting is impossible. Would be nice if humans had a delete button for things like that.

  26. The picture is adorable. Had a great pic somewhat similar to this today actually. I took my normal midday nap and all the animals piled in, chelsea near my chest, toby by my feet and Chloe, the cat, curled in behind my knees. Well I got up carefully. Stopped in the kitchen and grabbed my camera, but go figure, as I was trying to get them all in the shot, Toby jumped down and Chloe came running at me meowing. So nice how these cuties just stayed put for the camera. Great quote in number 8 as well.
