  2. Love the photo and quote. I read that Mark Twain had several cats. The quote reminds me of one I read a long time ago. I don't remember who said it or the exact wording, but went something like this. "If a person doesn't like cats, they must have been a rat in a former life". : )

    1. Out of all of ours there are several that sleep in the house each night. But our new little Shadow (the last litter) has discovered our bed and waits for us there, as he's become used to the evening routine and knows when we're getting ready to head back to bed. So cute. :) There's something very homey about a cat on your bed.

  6. My son, Josiah, is a cat person. He loves cats and they love him too. He also likes to write.
I like cats better than dogs and think perhaps I shall always keep a cat or two around.

    1. Out of all my zoo creatures, I've never had the desire for a dog!
Not that I have anything against them, just never wanted one of my own.
I didn't realize how much I missed a cat until we went without one for a few years.
Then they all started adopting me. lol.

  7. Always love Mark Twain but didn't have a clue he was a cat lover, as I don't ever remember reading that quote of his.

However, somewhere in my archives of pictures, I have one of me sitting next to a wonderful bronze statue of him on a park bench at a Holiday Inn Express in Modesto, CA.

I compiled a little list for this series and many of the people I was surprised to find! I think it will be fun to share them!

  13. I have always been surrounded by cats...
    Growing up...Always had cats...
When we first married, we took in a stray...named him Theodore...AKA Ted!!!
Not such a good move...he infested our tiny house with Fleas!!!!
Then we took in another stray...Big black shiny cat...named him Spooky...he must have been like the wandering guy...as he only stayed for 3 years...and then disappeared...Spooky,eh??!!
Then came Taffy...had her for 22 years..She was joined by Kramer when she was 5...Never cozied up to him
When she left us, Kramer only lasted 6 months...he was 17...I think he died form a broken heart..
AS you know, between my 3 kids...they have 7 cats...must be in our blood!!!
But...I must say...I DO NOT miss the fur!!!!
No more pets for us....maybe...tee hee hee...

Enjoy your day...nice and sunny...but cold...

    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

  14. I love Mark Twain. We are a six hours drive from his home in Hartford, CT and I'd so like to see it. We always pass through enroute to NYC or headed south and have yet to stop and see. I should make a point of that this year.

  20. I wonder how he felt about women who loved cats. I love dogs and cats, but have noted that some people who love either or both of them are downright weird and disagreeable, so either Twain liked people better than I do, or he was in an upbeat mood when he wrote that.

    1. haha...well, I see your point. If I find out the answer, I'll add an update to this post. I don't have anything against dogs, just haven't ever wanted one of my own!

    2. Two years ago, I got my first cat in decades (having always had dogs). I enjoy him, but the best thing I can say about cats is that they require so little work compared to dogs.

    3. Here's another Twain quote about cats:

“The cat, having sat upon a hot stove lid, will not sit upon a hot stove lid again. But he won't sit upon a cold stove lid, either.”

    4. Yes, I do agree that cats are less work. I like their independence, yet they are entertaining and affectionate. I had two cats that lived nice long lives, then we took a break up until a year ago when I befriended a stray mother cat. She brought her litter to our back porch and the rest is history. :) Now the word is out that I'll care for a stray, so they keep coming. haha.
