The Tree

Yellow Springs, Ohio

This is the kind of tree I liked to draw as a kid.
Tall, mature,... and it had to have that classic
branch scar hole in the side.
This photo is almost perfect...it just needs to
have an owl sitting in there, doesn't it? :)

  1. It's perfect already, but an owl would be great!

  2. That hole made me think of "To Kill a Mockingbird", where the kids exchanged gifts with Boo Radley in the hollow of a tree.

  3. And of course a cat or two
To show that it is your zoo
    Then the owl can whoo
And the cats can all lick their lips looking to chew haha

    1. haha...oh, to catch an owl would be bad
the headless mouse was enough to be had.
Did you see on my last post
I told you about it with a boast.
At least I don't have to fear
      a mouse infestation around here.

    2. A mouse would be insane
To come to your lane haha
Suicidal tendancies would be the correct term
As the kitties made it squirm

  7. Laurie would be just the one to add an owl. Her painting of owls are outstanding. I do remember the tree in "To Kill a Mocking Bird".

  9. I liked knotholes or branch holes in my trees too. If it had a little door there it could be the tree Mr. Rogers used to knock on.

  13. It's a beautiful tree, Betsy! Very rustic. I love how you were able to post this photo so large--how did you do that?

    1. I chose the x-large photo setting, then went into HTML and increased the width and length by 25%. You can do it on the page where you draft your post!

  14. The tree is a hard maple or sugar maple, by the leaf I see. That hole was an arm once upon a time and who knows how many species of birds perched on it before some story took it off and the wood disappeared up a chimney or, slowly dissolved into the ground and the roots have had a feast for decades.

    1. I'd love to know exactly what happened. :) Maybe too many little boys hung by their legs on it and it broke. haha.

  18. Hi Betsy,

Add me and my family to your list of those with post election blues and add me to a list of wondering how an area can have 108% voters or 0 votes for R/R, it just boggles the mind or how R/R only lost in states that did not require voter ID. It seems like these things happen with every election on both sides. So sad that fairness seems out the window. But we carry on and in two more years we have another one. Too soon for me.

Anyway I pinned this cute litte Owl, under my Gardens and Gardening Board last night. He is made from a CD disc and lids and some other stuff. He is so cute and so perfect for your tree. Seriously you will love the Owl and he is supposed to keep the hawks away from small pets. So he is useful too. I hope you will make one and put it on this tree and show us how cute he looks.

That tree is beautiful. Love it.

    God bless.
