This type of innocent looking lettuce almost took my life
last night while eating dinner! And when I looked it up
to see the proper name, I had to laugh! Spider Mustard?
Well, with a name like that, no wonder it was deadly!
Actually, I choked on it! One little leaf slid down my
throat before I was ready and half of it was down my
wind pipe. I didn't have enough air to give a good cough
and yet when I tried to take a breath, the lettuce went
further into my wind pipe! Quite the horrible predicament!
After trying to cough, breathe, gag and cry, I managed a tiny
'Help!' but The Mister said, "What do you want me to do?"
haha....like I could answer him! Anyway, I finally just
reached down my throat and got a hold of one end of the
thing and pulled it out. Wow. That was awful!
So, in my spirit of thankfulness this month, I'm happy that
after all the things I've been through, I didn't get taken
out by a little leaf! hahahaha!
And next time you eat that Sweet Mesclun Salad Mix,
be wary of the Spider Mustard! :)
♥
Oh dear! That sounds unpleasant! I'm thankful too!
ReplyDeleteI know! I would have been under the pine trees in the back yard much earlier than I expected! hahahaha!
DeleteIndeed!! :)
DeletePoor Mister...left with all these boys and pets! hahaha...
Deletebetter feed that lettuce to Nugget!
DeleteOh Gosh!
ReplyDeleteThat is a most ghastly experience.
I am so glad you got it out on your own.
I guess it gives the name raw a new meaning since your throat must be raw too. lol
My throat feels fine, but later, I was exhausted! ha.
DeleteMust have been the stress. Oh dear.
Damn, just proves we never know
ReplyDeleteHow we will go
A little leaf for the kill
That kind of makes be feel ill
Great job yanking it out though
No hymlic needed at your show haha
Need some more of the fountation water I will say
It seems to be wearing off at your bay
Makes you feel ill,
Deleteif the leaf were to kill?
Aw, you really do care, cat.
Sweet you are, and I knew that!
Yep, almost used all of my fountain of youth
need to replenish the supply, that's the truth!
Pfft don't tell
DeleteI have a rep at my cell
Have to keep up the sass
With my little rhyming as you said smartass haha

Deletebetsy I finish the embrodry Im so proud
oh how fun...can't wait to see it! :)
Deletemaybe something about the name LOL
ReplyDeleteit has to be...what a funny name...and I don't like spiders anyway!
Deleteoh Betsy as much as you are being humorous this is such a scary thing to have happen!Glad it worked out!!Gross name! I dislike spiders, VERY much!
ReplyDeleteoh, me too! I just had to crack up when I saw the name! hahaha
DeleteSo glad that you are fine. I have almost choked on something before and luckily coughing really hard worked. It is scary.
ReplyDeleteMay God's Angel's continue to watch over you.
God bless.
Yeah...I really wanted to cough but I couldn't!
DeleteThat is terrible...and I feel awful...but I must admit.. I had to laugh at the Mister's question?? I so think that is what Don would do. So glad you were able to just reach down and grab the edge. I don't think I will be buying that spring mix!!! "Itsy bitsy spider .....big problem."
ReplyDeleteI did tease him later and he said he would have done The Heimlich on me eventually. lol.
Deleteomg...how horrible...i wont be copying you on that one if i can help it...geez....glad you are ok...
ReplyDeletehaha...no, don't copy. We aren't identical twins, anyway. :)
DeleteOh, how scary! And to think people are taking up vegetarianism (is that a word?) in order to live longer!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are okay. Now you must teach the Mister some basic first aid.
yes! Eat meat, people! hahaha!
DeleteYes, a first aid class would be a great idea. :)
Yeesh! Glad you're ok!
ReplyDeleteI know! Crazy!
Deleteoh my gosh, Betsy! Choking is my biggest fear. If I had been there I would have just gone to my knees...blood and guts don't bother me, but choking...aughh. I don't think I would have even thought to pull out the leaf from my throat...Good Job!
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad I could reach it! Glad for long fingers! haha.
DeleteI'm a little scared of soup. I have choked on soup before.
ReplyDeleteYa just have to wait to see if you pass out or not with that one. I'm glad you are ok!
soup? lol....sorry, I'm laughing, but that is one thing I have not choked on. Usually it's popcorn that makes me cough! ...go figure.
Deleteso glad you are ok Betsy, and thanks for the warning, it could happen to anyone!
ReplyDeletewell, not sure what the warning is....chew your food? Don't laugh while eating? Something like that. haha.
DeleteThat is crazy glad your alright.
ReplyDeleteI know...so crazy!
DeleteThank goodness you are ok...
ReplyDeleteI know you won't be choking on the buttermilk blueberry cake!!! hahaha...
Seriously....glad you are ok...
We wouldn't want to lose our favourite blogger, now, would we???
Cheers!
Linda :o)
Aw, thanks.
DeleteMaybe Pat would have written a tombstone inscription.
Something like...
She choked on a leaf.
Her life was brief.
hahahaha!
My goodness!!! Glad you are ok!! Take care
ReplyDeletex
Me, too!
DeleteOh, my gosh, Betsy!! So glad you were able to get ahold of that lethal mustard leaf!! blessings ~ t.
ReplyDeletelethal indeed! Who knew! haha. When it got wet, it just stuck there and wouldn't move!
DeleteWow, what an awful experience! Echoing what everyone else has said, I'm really glad you're ok. I'm amazed that your throat isn't really sore after all that coughing! And just the name, "spider lettuce", conjures all sorts of weird imagery.
ReplyDeletehaha...well, that's just it...I couldn't cough...I couldn't take in any air. Yeah, that name is just strange! hahaha.
DeleteI did the exact same thing....since it happened I always tear up the lettuce/spinach now. It's such a helpless feeling! Glad you're okay.
ReplyDeletewell, thanks :)
DeleteYikes! That sounds like a dangerous salad! I've choked on a corn chip--in a restaurant no less. Its a horrid feeling. I kept thinking "I'm going to puke or die or something, and in front of a whole room full of people." ha
ReplyDeleteOh dear...yes, out in public is always worse!
DeleteDear hope you feel OK today please be far of dangerous food like spider mustard LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL! Stay far, far away from anything called 'spider' !!!
DeleteYikes, how very frightening. Seriously, Betsy, I am so glad that you are OK. I had an awful experience with choking with my son years ago...we almost lost him. Choking is no laughing matter. That said...OK, your limerick about choking on a leaf and your life was brief? Pretty funny now that you are OK. (o:
ReplyDeletehahaha...oh, it is funny...and I meant for the post to be...not really asking for all the sympathies.
DeleteBut to be taken down by a tiny leaf just cracked me up...after it was over, of course! ha.
Glad your son is ok, too...very scary!
Gosh, what a horrid experience. Really glad you're OK.
ReplyDeleteit was yucky...but it was over in a minute or two!
DeleteWhat do you want me to do?!!! I don't know why I found that so funny.
ReplyDeleteUh? Call 911!! first, then slap me on the back, then call 911! I'd even go for that southern hind lick
ma-nuuuu-ver if it would help! ;)
All funny aside...Thank God you're ok! I've had this happen and at the time it's no laughing matter.
And guess what? Hubby was no help at all. None. My throat was scratchy for a couple days after. It also makes you very cautious when you next eat. I stick with the old non-nutrious crunchy iceberg lettuce now.
Blessings Betsy!
old boring iceberg...but it's safe! haha.
DeleteSounds like our hubs need us. lol.
"I did tease him later and he said he would have done The Heimlich on me eventually."
ReplyDeleteEventually?!? How much time did he think he had? Sheesh!
He probably would have waited until I was blue and non-responsive. lol.
Deleteoh Betsy I think the mr. was shocking think you always are well, you make everything and care and help the 5 men and pets LOL so he wait you give him intructions LOL OMY!
DeleteHe was really scared !!!
xo
OMG! This was too scary to read about so I can't even image how it was to go through. How were the boys through all of this?
