Today I had Harry home with a sinus infection.
We went to the doctor for an antibiotic.
Doesn't look to terribly sick with that smile,
but he does feel crummy.
The other day I collected leaves outside and
pressed them in an old dictionary to dry.
Doing this always reminds me of my grandma.
She died when I was only 8 years old, but
she was sweet, creative and I don't have anything
but good memories about her, her home, and holidays there.
Today I pulled out the leaves and wrote names on them
so I could use them as place cards on the Thanksgiving table.
Little bunny is still looking festive at the kitchen sink.
The wood pedestal bowl with dogwood blossoms painted on it is
a recent thrift store find!
I also pulled out the crystal and washed it up so it would be ready to go!
And I polished the silver.
Remember the stinky paste, the scrubbing, rinsing and buffing? Not anymore!
Just lay a piece of aluminum foil in the sink, add 2 T of baking soda and hot water.
Soak your silver for 5 minutes and it's done.
No tarnish! Couldn't be easier!
I dried it all to make sure there weren't any water spots and put it back in the case. Had to smile at my silver set.
My uncle found it at a thrift store 9 years ago and sent it to me!
I guess thrift store browsing runs in the family!
I had planned on running errands today, but with Harry home I had to change plans! At least I got some of my other little chores done in
anticipation of Thanksgiving. Tomorrow I go to the cute little Amish turkey farm, my favorite part of Thanksgiving prep!
Thankfully, Taylor's schedule is free to stay with Harry while I shop. :)
How was your Monday?
♥
looks wonderful, love the leaves!!!Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, I hope the sinus infection is gone soon, thats no fun at all!
ReplyDeleteYour thanksgiving has already come and gone! Thanks for the good wishes...I think it will be fun...relaxing and quiet, just how we like it. :)
DeleteDays spent at home can be productive too. I went out for the morning and still managed to wash my windows.
ReplyDeleteYes, they can! It worked out just fine. Tomorrow I'll be dashing about, but it's all good. ha.
DeleteWashing windows? Nice...I've done the ones I look out of the most. I think that will be it for this year. lol....
oh what a cool idea for the placecards....
ReplyDeletethere might still be leaves in my bible back home from growing up...
ha
hope harry feels better
how sweet...your grand kids will find them some day! :)
DeleteI always find something interesting here, but the silverware tarnish removal hint? I can't wait to try that!
ReplyDeleteI hope Harry feels better soon! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Betsy! I am thankful for you. (o:
This was my first time to try it! They said if your silver is very tarnished, add more soda and even some salt and soak it longer. But mine was done in 3-5 minutes. I'm thankful for you, too, Anita! :)
DeleteHarry has such a winning smile. I found myself smiling back at him.
ReplyDeleteLove all your little treasures. They add such a festive touch. What a great way to clean silver...I don't have any, but if I did... I sure use your solution.
What did I do today...Early trip to Costco for the last minute Thanksgiving items. Took the beautiful big grapes back to Costo..thoutht they were seedless...not so...family won't eat them with seeds. Took some Sour Cream Coffee cake to Elizabeth, and had a nice visit, and we posed for a picture. (on the blog). Picked up my car that just had bodywork and new windshield and paint job. (12 years old and decided to do cosmetic and make it look like new cause she still runs great. Came home and made dinner and now watching the football game! Quite a busy Monday.
Oh, you did have a busy day...all good things, though! Can't wait to come over and see you and Elizabeth! And a look-like-new car? Can't beat that! You deserve to put your feet up tonight! :)
DeleteDid put my feet up, Betsy...and I will post a picuture of my little Nissan.. 12 years old, and looks like new.
DeleteBusy time of the year. When you throw in a sick kid, you could possibly a panic moment.
ReplyDeleteBut then, it's you! Wonder woman, who has the best silver polish idea ever!
Getting my foil, tartar, and hot water ready.
I have learned....don't wait until the very last day. It's a magnet for a sick kid. haha... I've learned that lesson a few times before I caught on! lol!
Deletebaking soda, not tarter....don't know what tarter would do. ...probably nothing and that wouldn't be good, either! :)
And I was thinking today...I sure am going to miss Taylor when he gets married and moves out! He's so good about watching his brothers for me....it's so convenient, too.
My Monday was good and I always enjoy your photos.
ReplyDeleteHarry may be sick but it looks like he enjoys missing school as much as I did.
We got into our exam room immediately, but had to wait a whole hour before the doctor came in! Ugh! I had to sing to keep him entertained and that got him to smile. haha. Made for a good picture. :)
Deletepoor Harry I had sinus last year and Ditto too, hope feel well soon!
ReplyDeletethe silver set look really nice!!
and your bunny make me smile I remember his foam bath when he arrived home LOL
Sinus infections are yucky. I used to get them all the time!
DeleteYes, bunny had to have a bath before he went from muddy garden to kitchen counter. haha. I'm going to need to make him a christmas wreath, too!
Hope Harry feel well soon betsy!
DeleteThe bunny is nice anyway!

ReplyDeleteDoes the baking soda trick work in a stainless steel sink??
I did some ironing...laundry...cleaned my bathroom....giggled with Vivian...raked more leaves at the front...chatted with the neighbours...made baked halibut for dinner...started a new crochet project, and ripped it out 10 times...arrrgh...I am better now!!!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
I don't know! I bet you could do a google search and find out. I read 2 different sites about it and didn't see any warnings like that.
DeleteThe leaf place cards are a great idea! Looks like you are getting a lot done for the big day. We are having the kids and grandkids for Thanksgiving. Love the festivities! Hope you all have a blessed day : )
ReplyDeleteOh, you'll have a fun day! Take pictures!
DeleteHow was my Monday? No where near as creative as yours Betsy. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family my fine, creative friend.
ReplyDeletewhy thank you, Alan...my favorite Brit. :)
DeleteHi Betsy .. you do put us all to shame - but I love seeing all your endeavours. Looks like you will have one wonderful Thanksgiving ... enjoy - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm sure most are doing the same things I'm doing! It takes a few days for prep and 15 minutes to gobble down the feast! haha. Oh dear!
DeleteHope Harry is feeling much better today! Betsy, I love the idea of the foil and salt, but I have been chicken to do it! I'm so afraid it might ruin my old silver. Sure looks wonderful!!! Oh, I may try to work up the courage. ;) If for some reason I don't get back before Thanksgiving, I'm wishing you and yours a day filled with love and joyfulness. I am thankful that I stumbled onto your blog years ago. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteit won't ruin it...it's more gentle than the chemicals!
DeleteHarry has such a sweet smile for a fellow that doesn't feel well.
ReplyDeleteWishing him a speedy recovery.
thanks, mary! :)
DeleteThank you for the silver cleaning tip! I have several serving pieces from my grandmother and can't wait to use this easy cleaning method. Hope Harry is feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteI didn't try any big pieces, but don't know why it wouldn't work! Good luck!
DeleteHope those germs go away
ReplyDeleteHate them oh so much at my bay
Wow very creative with the leaves too
And hahaha had to laugh at the kitty in view
Could be watching you
And thinking "what the hell is she uo to?" haha
They all think that I'm sure
Deleteas I buzz around in a blur.
hahaha.
I've cleaned silver this way, but never thought about doing all of it at once in the sink. I'm off to boil some water...
ReplyDeleteJust hot tap water...no boiling! And yeah, do it all at once...there isn't any rubbing involved...just throw it all in..well, gently, of course. ha.
DeleteThat's me today, busy getting prepared for Thursday, minus a sick one. Hope he feels better soon! Blessings to you today! :)
ReplyDeleteI ran errands all day today. Whew! Tomorrow is the baking! :)
DeleteWonderful post Hope Harry feels better soon:)
ReplyDeletethank you...I think he already feels better! he slept most of the last two days.
DeleteBetsy how is Harry today? he feel better?
ReplyDeleteHe slept a lot but I think he's better. Probably tomorrow the antibiotic will really make a difference. He's so good when he's sick...he just puts himself to bed and sleeps all day! ha.
DeleteI think is so good he sleeps is better, you know when you are sick you need sleep, yes maybe tomorrow the antibiotic help more:)
DeleteThanks for the fantastic silver polishing tip. I've got to write that down. I love your idea for place cards.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving to everyone at your table this year!!!
