Auction Day

I worked an auction on Wednesday and brought home a few
interesting things....

  1. A vintage French Country hen...rather large...she's ceramic and painted white.  She looks nice on top of my china cabinet, I think!
  2. A mint-condition gardening keepsake book by one of my favorite artists, Marjolein Bastin.
  3. I do love her art and as I flipped through the book, I noticed how much she's influenced my own style of drawing!
  4. This pitcher and bowl were in a box that I paid 25 cents for.  I love transferware and thought it was too pretty for the trash.  Nobody was going to bid on it because the pitcher has a chip.  It's fun to be clerking and if nobody is going to take it, offer to bid myself. haha.  It was too pretty to throw away!
  5. I did find this bushel basket in the trash...just in time to bring in veggies from the garden.  Nice to get practical things there, too!
  6. I think the transferware looks nice with this pillow I have in the living room!
  7. Oh, and Mrs. Hen had her mate, Mr. Rooster with her!  He's a whopping 26" tall!  I like the way he looks with my vintage white ironwork hanging above the window.  I actually bid on the cute couple.  Taylor pronounced them 'hideous'. lol.  I should wrap them up for a wedding present next summer, don't you think?  :)

    1. And the funniest part is...some of the things people bid on and pay a lot for...I think are very ugly! lol....

    1. HAHAHA...the chicken couple could become the white elephant that shows up every gift exchange! lol....my sister and I had a dehydrated carved apple head with glass eyes that went back and forth for a while. Hilarious!

    2. Just the size of the present would give it away though...I mean, it's kinda hard to hide that rooster. lol.... I actually think they are meant for those large, high ceiling French kitchens...the ones with center islands as big as my house. lol.....

    3. That would make sense. Wow can you imagine cleaning a house like that? Whenever I feel like chafing about not enough room I remember that it also doesn't take forever and a maid to clean. lol, always SOMEthing to be thankful for!

    4. yes, that is very true...I have trouble keeping mine clean now! But then, if I didn't have a zoo here, it would be a lot easier. lol...

    6. haha...I didn't even notice. You were sounding it out, right? :) You got transferware right, though!

    7. ha that's because I checked to see how it was written. lol- I used to get an A+ on spelling all the time, believe it or not! Something must be happening to me! Oh well, I guess if it's nothing worse I can probably handle it :)

    8. haha...my spellchecker flags transferware...I guess it's never heard of it!

  3. Wow, you got some great stuff! I really like the transfer ware bowl and pitcher. It's such an unusual color. We have a lot in brown, but that rosy shade is lovely. And I LOVE the rooster and hen!!! We have a collection of roosters and hens. I was just taking picture of some yesterday, thinking about putting them on a blog post, bt my photos didn't turn out very well. We keep some of the large ones on top of the kitchen cabinets, as we hane high ceilings. Also one by the fireplace and the really large one in our foyer : ) So if you ever put them in your Etsy shop, let me know!

  8. Marmy doesn't looked impressed with the fruit
That rooster looks like it might hoot
It does look kind of ummm tacky for indoors
But outside to protect your shores
    Might look okay
Buried in the snow and not on display hahahaha
Always fun to see what you find
After the long arse auction grind

    1. The rooster is tacky you say?
You, with a um, crack outside your bay?
lol....no, they are inside statues..and very French
and they go inside your kitchen, maybe on a bench.
Cost a few hundred bucks, too...
I looked them up on Google and said woo hoo!
But if Taylor really declines the 'hideous' pair
I'll send them to you on by COD fare.
      hahahaha.

    2. LMAO I don't think the border patrol will let it pass
For Canada won't want such a thing to trespass
So they will sent it back
The rooster will forever be stuck at your shack
And a crack outside my bay
      Is an artful display haha

  22. I'm having trouble commenting on your blog. I have seen your cute little pig in the sky though and tried to comment there. Not sure I made it or not, though. Then I absolutely love all your finds at the auction! You have a good eye and the patience to win some beauties. I think the pair of chickens would make a lovely wedding gift! :) The birds eating in the sunset was precious.
