I worked an auction on Wednesday and brought home a few
interesting things....
- A vintage French Country hen...rather large...she's ceramic and painted white. She looks nice on top of my china cabinet, I think!
- A mint-condition gardening keepsake book by one of my favorite artists, Marjolein Bastin.
- I do love her art and as I flipped through the book, I noticed how much she's influenced my own style of drawing!
- This pitcher and bowl were in a box that I paid 25 cents for. I love transferware and thought it was too pretty for the trash. Nobody was going to bid on it because the pitcher has a chip. It's fun to be clerking and if nobody is going to take it, offer to bid myself. haha. It was too pretty to throw away!
- I did find this bushel basket in the trash...just in time to bring in veggies from the garden. Nice to get practical things there, too!
- I think the transferware looks nice with this pillow I have in the living room!
- Oh, and Mrs. Hen had her mate, Mr. Rooster with her! He's a whopping 26" tall! I like the way he looks with my vintage white ironwork hanging above the window. I actually bid on the cute couple. Taylor pronounced them 'hideous'. lol. I should wrap them up for a wedding present next summer, don't you think? :)
♥
Still can't beleive that these are "through aways".
ReplyDeleteThink I might try some dumpster diving around the old neighborhood.
And the funniest part is...some of the things people bid on and pay a lot for...I think are very ugly! lol....
DeleteWow! That pair really does have some size! Love the transferware piture and bowl. I'd say you hit a mini jackpot. Wrap them up he can always return them to you at Christmas! lol
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA...the chicken couple could become the white elephant that shows up every gift exchange! lol....my sister and I had a dehydrated carved apple head with glass eyes that went back and forth for a while. Hilarious!
DeleteLOL too funny! :)
DeleteJust the size of the present would give it away though...I mean, it's kinda hard to hide that rooster. lol.... I actually think they are meant for those large, high ceiling French kitchens...the ones with center islands as big as my house. lol.....
DeleteThat would make sense. Wow can you imagine cleaning a house like that? Whenever I feel like chafing about not enough room I remember that it also doesn't take forever and a maid to clean. lol, always SOMEthing to be thankful for!
Deleteyes, that is very true...I have trouble keeping mine clean now! But then, if I didn't have a zoo here, it would be a lot easier. lol...
Deletehaha I just noticed how I spelled pitcher. what a dork! I have too many other things on my mind!! :)
Deletehaha...I didn't even notice. You were sounding it out, right? :) You got transferware right, though!
Deleteha that's because I checked to see how it was written. lol- I used to get an A+ on spelling all the time, believe it or not! Something must be happening to me! Oh well, I guess if it's nothing worse I can probably handle it :)
Deletehaha...my spellchecker flags transferware...I guess it's never heard of it!
DeleteWow, you got some great stuff! I really like the transfer ware bowl and pitcher. It's such an unusual color. We have a lot in brown, but that rosy shade is lovely. And I LOVE the rooster and hen!!! We have a collection of roosters and hens. I was just taking picture of some yesterday, thinking about putting them on a blog post, bt my photos didn't turn out very well. We keep some of the large ones on top of the kitchen cabinets, as we hane high ceilings. Also one by the fireplace and the really large one in our foyer : ) So if you ever put them in your Etsy shop, let me know!
ReplyDeleteI originally thought the rooster would fit on top of my china cabinet with the hen but he was too tall! ha. Yes, if they feel too big here, I'll let you know! :) You do have a nice collection!
DeleteIm absolutely in love of the number 4! !
ReplyDeleteYears ago I had one like this by the twins playing
brock them lol
OH, no! I had a smaller white one that Harry broke when he was little! haha. I thought the red was pretty and even thought I might just keep the bowl..but it I turn the chip to the back, nobody sees it. It's still pretty!
DeleteThe twins go run and broke a lot of things this time and they were so little ha!
Deleteoh dear...that sounds like Harry so much. He was our only one that did that...but it seems like he broke a lot of stuff. haha.
DeleteLove the chicken too look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI think the rooster will rule the kitchen, you think? Or at least keep me company when I'm doing dishes. :)
DeleteYes will be nice there lol
DeleteHey I love 6 too I have to enlarge the picture Im in my cell!
ReplyDeleteyes..the bowl looks pretty by itself!
DeleteI think thats a handsome rooster, what beautiful collection of treasures,
ReplyDeletethanks, laurie!
DeleteMarmy doesn't looked impressed with the fruit
ReplyDeleteThat rooster looks like it might hoot
It does look kind of ummm tacky for indoors
But outside to protect your shores
Might look okay
Buried in the snow and not on display hahahaha
Always fun to see what you find
After the long arse auction grind
The rooster is tacky you say?
DeleteYou, with a um, crack outside your bay?
lol....no, they are inside statues..and very French
and they go inside your kitchen, maybe on a bench.
Cost a few hundred bucks, too...
I looked them up on Google and said woo hoo!
But if Taylor really declines the 'hideous' pair
I'll send them to you on by COD fare.
hahahaha.
LMAO I don't think the border patrol will let it pass
DeleteFor Canada won't want such a thing to trespass
So they will sent it back
The rooster will forever be stuck at your shack
And a crack outside my bay
Is an artful display haha
oh wow...great score on the bowl and pitcher....a chicken and rooster...haha...you def always score at these auctions...
ReplyDeleteit's always a mystery what will be there...I guess that's half the fun!
DeleteI think you did very well at this auction! I really like Mr Rooster and Mrs Hen!
ReplyDeleteI like them, too! But I like things that are a little out of the ordinary. lol....
DeleteYou did very well and I bet it was done frugally too. :)
ReplyDeletevery cheap...especially the ones that were in the trash! lol....
DeleteSuch fabulous treasures!
ReplyDeleteI thought so! It's always fun to see what is there.
DeleteYou did well!! I think it would be hard to work an auction and not find several "treasures" to bring home with you. Have a nice weekend. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteyes, that's true...but there have been a few that I left empty handed...although a very few! ha.
DeleteI love to see all the treasures that you discover at these auctions and how you are able to find a place in your home for them. I am sure if they could talk that they would be saying "Thank you.". Mr Rooster and Mrs Hen are totally awesome and I think they would be a great gift and regift and regift......
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I think they are an awesome couple! I don't know what Taylor's problem is! lol....
DeleteI think your hens are quite the find!!!! Oh yeh...and you SHOULD wrap them up for a gag wedding gift...just to see his face. =) AWESOME treasures Betsy! How nice you find the perfect place to put them all.
ReplyDeleteI did google the hens and they are quite expensive! I'll enjoy them no matter what Taylor says. lol...I can just see Mr. Rooster with a Christmas wreath around his neck. haha.
DeleteI love the No. 4 but they all look good. That cat looks like my mums!
ReplyDeleteMarmalade? He's our only colorful cat...all the others are grey, black and white! ha.
Delete#4 is my favorite.
ReplyDelete~Aidyl
I think it's everyone's favorite....nothing 'hideous' about it. lol....
DeleteI have chickens and roosters in my kitchen. So those will go nicely, I'm thinking. (heh heh heh)
ReplyDelete"Hideous'...LOL. Definitely the finest wedding gift ever. LOL!!
Lovely treasures - you did particularly well this week.
ReplyDeleteYou sure did...
ReplyDeleteLove the book! I like her items
ReplyDeleteLOVE Mr. and Mrs. Chicken!!!! AND YES...Taylor and L should get them for a GIFT! HA! Show him!
ReplyDeleteLooks like I missed out on another good auction. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm having trouble commenting on your blog. I have seen your cute little pig in the sky though and tried to comment there. Not sure I made it or not, though. Then I absolutely love all your finds at the auction! You have a good eye and the patience to win some beauties. I think the pair of chickens would make a lovely wedding gift! :) The birds eating in the sunset was precious.
ReplyDeleteHm. I think "hideous" was a little harsh, haha!
ReplyDeleteyou know, you coudl have done no. 3! I thought it was yours at first. :)
