A Sweet Little Gift

The Mister's niece came home to Ohio from where she now lives
on the Massachusetts coast.  She brought me this adorable
mug from The Spotted Cod gift shop.

I thought it was perfect to hold some of my seashells on my desk
for the summer.  And I tucked in a hollow cardinal egg, too...
just because it looked so sweet!

Thanks, Jen!

  4. That's a really neat gift. Seashells are great. Me and my sister used to have a pretty big collection we'd each collect when we'd go to the beach or on trips as kids, she kept bringing them home after I stopped, but I still liked them, unfortunately, whatever the case was, they somehow got thrown out in a garage clean out one summer about 12 or so years ago. In addition, I used to have this really cool pail of shiny pebbles and rocks and they're nowhere to be found, which is something my sister never was really into, which is great because her daughter is really into grabbing rocks all the time from the landscaping, and carries them with her, it's rather funny, and my sister says I must have shown her the rocks, but I didn't lol Fun post here, brought up some nice thoughts

    1. throwing out shells is fairly common, I've come to realize. At the auctions there are boxes of them...which the family obviously didn't want...and neither did the bidders! I had a rock collection when I was a kid, too! I would have collected a pail of smooth pebbles, too. Fun. Maybe they will turn up some time. And cute that your neice got your gene for rock collecting! :) Sea glass is another cool thing...

  6. I really like the mug and your shells are perfect in it. The sand dollar is very cool.
I recently decorated one of our bathrooms with an ocean theme. I used a lot of our shells in there. Our granddaughters pick them up and listen to the ocean.

To where the smog is the most
    And with the seashells there
You can think of the ocean at your lair
    And that zucchini boat
Used to escape and away you float

  16. such a lovely cup, the shells make it look so summery! I have never saw a cardinal's egg, we rarely see cardinal's this far north.Only if they get lost, its that way with tourists too!

  17. What a sweet niece and gift. I love mugs with meaning. You have made that one so special, maybe to special for coffee, yes? The shells and cardinal egg just the perfect touch. Do you have a favorite mug for your coffee....Mine just doesn't taste the same in any other mug than my grey pottery with ocean and seagulls. MMMmmm yeah, the the taste.

  18. I didn't see the egg until I read that you'd put it there. I admire how you surround yourself with beauty. Very inspiring. Almost makes me wanna do some housecleaning and spiff things up. Almost.

Lovely shells that remind me of when I was single and living in Florida. I brought home a shell only to discover the next morning some thing was still living inside. Oops. I rushed out before work to throw it back into the water. Totally NOT legal to have in one's possession.
