I worked an auction yesterday!
Lots of fun and interesting stuff from an estate including an extensive art collection, tons of furniture and
a 2000 Mercedes E320. Even though it was in an un-airconditioned barn
at the local fairgrounds, with a heat index of 100 degrees, we all managed to survive. Although, we did look
much less fresh at the end of the day than when we started. ha.
I did bring a small box of items home that were left for the trash.
I can always use nicely shaped baskets for my business. I collect
vintage glass Christmas ornaments and canning jars.
The ornaments are in a little yellow-ware planter. And I liked the three
little milk glass plates with the fleur de lis cutout edges.
But my favorite was an 11x14 still life that was complete with glass
and frame. It had just come apart and needed to be cleaned and reassembled.
So today I gave it all a good polishing and put it back together.
A search online told me that it's a reproduction of the
Robert Chailloux's painting,
Still Life With Strawberries And A Brown Jug.
Too bad it's not the original oil on wood, which is worth $7000.
But for free, I think I'll enjoy this little piece just fine!
♥
Oh love the painting and sounds like a fun auction. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI do, too! So fun!
Deletenow thats a boxful of goodness!!!
ReplyDeletekind of fun, isn't it? :)
DeleteOh Betsy I love the basket;the jars and the painting is so beautiful:)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful stuf Betsy!
It's always fun to see what's in the trash! :)
DeleteThe other day I fin a lovely thing in my Mom trash (where she live) ha! I will tell you later but I washer it and look nice is like a velvet fabric:)
DeleteOooh...how nice! What color is it?
Deletelike burdeo oh I dont remember the word in english I will take a pic tomorrow and you can see is really nice my Mom live in apartament and I saw this that somebody let there:)
Deletebourdeaux...like a dark red or wine color? Nice! That is so much fun!
DeleteStrat! Always had a treasure there
ReplyDeleteThat was kind of rare
Guess back to digging I go
Here at my show
And no AC
Is a typical day for me
But those christmas ornaments wil go fine
Surrounding Santa who wiggles and wags all divine hahahahaha
And Jack you say
Will he build a time fraction cat at your bay? haha
We should go find the original
Deleteand then we'd be rich, just a little. :)
Oh, Santa doesn't need any help at all
if you want him back, just give me a call.
lol....
Yes, Jack
Deletehe might go on the time machine attack!
Need to find him a little Emily
so they can start a little family.
lol.....
LOL one trip for Santa is enough
DeleteGetting into a box is mighty tough
So your zoo
Is where he stays to view haha
haha then you would get the cat crown
If Emily came and they were able to settle down
Bringing about another litter at your zoo
Sure you don't want that to come due
Love the painting! Not sure I would be fit to go through auction trash piles. I think I would be too apt to think "I can do something with this" and then store it somewhere for years. I try hard not to be a hoarder. ha
ReplyDeleteWell, that's true. And I don't want to fill my house with junk. The key is not to store the stuff and not really need or use it. I picked up two mugs, but have already decided I didn't want them...so they are in a box to go to the thrift store. haha. I don't want them taking up room somewhere if I'm not going to use them.
DeleteI have no doubt that you have it under control. haha :) Is there still cake left? I baked one today that didn't quite end up like it should have but my husband, good sport that he is, said it's good and ate it anyway :) It was a Blackeberry Lime Chiffon cake with Lime infused Swiss Meringue Buttercream. Maybe I'll try again tomorrow. :)
DeleteThere are about 3 pieces left. :)
DeleteNow that cake actually sounds good. I love key lime, so it sounds appealing to me. But I do hate that feeling of disappointment when all of my efforts to bake something are less than what I had envisioned. lol...
Me too!
DeleteI'm sure nobody will complain if you try again tomorrow! ha. Not to mention monster cookies, right? :)
DeleteBetsy, your part time job has such nice perks, it almost makes me wish I had a part time auction job too. I am a fan of your still-life and the milkglass with fleur de lis too. Enjoy your stuff!
ReplyDeleteI do, too...and I love that I only work 2-3 days out of each month. It gets me out of the house, around interesting people, and I get to search for little treasures. ha. Having trouble getting the dirt off one of the fluer de lis plates...and I'm thinking it's paint and not dirt! hmmm...
DeleteHow totally fun!
ReplyDeletehey, a new avatar! :)
DeleteThey are all nice bonuses for your hard work, betsy. It would have been a shame to see them discarded in the trash.
ReplyDeleteit's always fun to see what's left...mostly junk, but a few things are there usually.
DeleteI always love seeing your free box of treasures. Wish I could come along!!!
ReplyDeleteWell now, that would be so fun! I wish you could, too!
Deletewow what a find that would have been at $7000...still a cool pic...and you always find interesting stuff at the auction...
ReplyDeletewouldn't that have been funny...to fine that in the trash. ha. Maybe some day!
DeleteIt's fun seeing the treasures you take home.
ReplyDeleteAs for the picture, someday I bet you will be taking home an orginal worth big bucks.
The newspapers will go crazy! It will be one of those stories that we all tell our grandchldren.
Yes, someday that trash will be treasure.
haha...that would be so cool!
DeleteI always look forward to seeing what you bring home on auction day!! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm glad since I always make y'all endure a post or two about it. ha.
DeleteIt's on my bucket list of things to do.
ReplyDeleteI've never been to an auction. So I'm looking forward to it.
Oh, the marvelous treasures you find!
ReplyDeletesome are better than others, but they are all fun!
DeleteIt almost seems like you get to go on a treasure hunt every time you work the auction, sort of like you are a pirate. You're Captain Betsy searching for treasure!! Are you ready to go walk the plank and show me what you found before you take that final step into the shark filled abyss. You thought you could get away with not showing us the treasure, well we will show you. Wait Master, screeches the blimey Parrot, and then whispers into his ear. The Master coughs and then yells to take Captain Betsy off the plank. He then apologizes and said that nine cats had whispered into the Parrots ear that they would save him if he would save you. They then went on and told the Parrot that the Master could see all the treasures on your blog site if he had a mind to. And so the story goes that Captain Betsy was saved by nine lives of which she had saved.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
hahaha....oh, that was funny! Thanks for the laughs! And thanks for giving me a parrot...have to have my bird, you know. lol.... glad some good karma came into play, too! :)
DeleteOh did I enjoy Mrsupole's story...so Betsy the Pirate...cute.
ReplyDeleteYou did get another great box of "Stuff" and the painting is so great. Will look nice in your home wherever you decide to hang it.
I'm thinking on the shelves in the dining room...the theme are colors are just right for that spot! :)
DeleteIsn't that curved china dish an antique bone plate? I don't remember for sure but I thought older sets had them in their set. They were placed next to the plate to receive the bones. I think that I want to look for a job like yours, in air conditioned buildings and then my house would be fuller than ever. I liked all of the things in your box.
ReplyDeleteYes! That is a bone dish...used just how you described it!
DeleteBeautiful reproduction.;) Just keep at it, it is at auctions one can stumble over some originals.;) Though even better at flea markets.;)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week ahead dear Betsy, nice catching up with you on this greay Monday morning.;)
xoxo
