Auction Day

I worked an auction today.  Fun day...gorgeous weather, nice stuff,
interesting people-watching, even my not-so-secret admirer
(normally grumpy old man that has a serious crush on me
was there to pay quite a few really sweet compliments. ha.
I even brought home some loot and trash pickings!
But I think the best part was that since the boys are home
on summer vacation, going 'to work' seemed like a vacation
day to me! haha.  Nice!

  1. Loved this antique wicker English baby carriage.  It went for $65, which I thought was a steal.  I should have bought it for future grandchildren!  And until then, wouldn't it have been beautiful at a baby shower full of gifts?  What was I thinking?  ha.
  2. This white porcelain pot with the handle was under a table of box lots sitting in front of me all day.  Perfect condition and calling my name.  I love ironstone and crocks...this would be right at home in my house.
  3. This acorn and oak leaf hand sewn quilt was really lovely.  It went for almost $400.
  4. Several tables of figurines and collectibles.  I always enjoy browsing through this stuff.  It goes for pennies and some times you really can find a treasure.
  5. And look!  Bidder 164 won that white porcelain pot!  That would be me, of course! I got it for $7.  The bottom is stamped The US Porcelain Company, Wellsville, O.  Semi Vitreous Porcelain.  And thank you to my coworker, Julie, who bid for me while I was busy with customers. :)
  6. And this is the box of stuff I saved from the trash.  I really love the little transferware mug in the corner.  Might be drinking my coffee out of that tomorrow!  The china, mug and vintage Christmas bulbs are sitting on a pile of sea shells, which I collect!   Nice!

Maybe the stuff I brought home will make a reappearance after everyone
has had a bath in the kitchen sink.  :)

  1. Gee....you got some really nice "free" stuff...
It must be very interesting...seeing all the people...are you like the gal on Storage Wars??? "don't forget to pay the lady"...
Who takes care of your boys when you go to work??
Is that too personal a question??? If so..never mind...
    Enjoy your evening...

    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

    1. yep, I'm the lady they pay. ha. ;)

Usually the boys are in school, so The Mister or my son Taylor cover the couple of hours I need after they get off the bus. And since it's summer, Taylor and The Mister have been available to share 'boy duty' :) If that ever doesn't work out, I do have a few girlfriends willing to step in. :) And no, not too personal..thanks for even thinking to ask!

  4. beautiful buys today, my gramma had a childs chamber pot that looked like that, they kept it under the bed for night time calls of nature when all we had were out houses, I think the idea of the carriage at a shower is great,

    1. I wondered if it was a chamber pot but it seems too big and tall. I'll have to do some investigating!

    2. we have an old china chamber pot with blue flowers on it that my mum planted a jade plant in, it was an inside joke!!

    3. I was just thinking it would make a nice planter. And I bought a new little jade plant just last week that needs to be planted in a bigger container! haha...yes, seems like it would grow well in one. lol. Even as a vase for a large bouquet..that would be pretty, too!

  6. lovely! your auction days sound like fun! my Mom used to have (or maybe still does) in her attic a baby carriage just like that, but not in as good condition as this one. $65 sounds like a steal to me too! That baby shower idea was/is perfect!

  7. Hi Betsy, looks like a very fun day for you. I like your free cup and Does the tall pot match it? very nice find.
don't feel bad about not getting the buggy, it is very cute but certainly not up to baby safety standards.

  11. Looking at your box of 'trash' so reminded me of the antique shops I visited today! Maybe you need to rent you one of those type booths. Seems like you could keep it well supplied with what others are putting in the trash. But for sure, I want to go to one of these auctions!

  14. I would LOVE to trail behind you at your auctions. I would be in heaven. I am one of those people that if I buy something new...there is no thrill. I just came back from the goodwill with 4 adorable tops...all from Ann Taylor. I love them...and the thrill of paying DOLLARS for them gives me such great satisfaction. I finally have convinced my daughter (now that spending money is important to her) that bargain shopping is the way to go.

    1. Oh, I totally agree! Old is almost always better! And I love to find expensive things at the thrift store like your tops. So nice! And, the hunt is the most thrilling part! :) How fun to do with with your daughter now!

  20. haha a nice get away
    From your zoo bay
As you get hit on too
hahaha so funny to hear that it came due
And technically the bid was placed for you
So a win was kind of cheating as things flew
    But still grand to win
Adding more things to your bin

    1. It was a grand escape
      to a different place! ha.
If she was bidding with my money
      It's not cheating, honey. lol.
Still not winning like you do
      as that $500 came due!
Maybe I need you to come down
      and make the bidding rounds!
