I was so lazy today...just puttered around the house! With the exception of two loads of laundry, I didn't do any housework! My main priority was to manage the men, which basically means to make sure nobody leaves the kitchen faucet running, the refrigerator door open, wanders off our property, or burns the house down. lol (you think I'm kidding, don't you!?) The rest of the time was spent puttering around with my auction stuff and making a scrumptious dinner, which I'll share with you tomorrow. :)
- I washed up my antique mug and enjoyed my coffee in it!
- Remember me telling you that the pieces of china were resting in a box full of sea shells? Well, this little glass was found down in the box...just like this. Pretty purple striped pieces of shell...worn down by sand and the tide...just like sea glass! Someone had made a pretty display from their collection. They would make a pretty mosaic and I think I'll look for ideas to do something fun with them.
- While at the grocery I picked up a bag of tri-colored potatoes. I'm thinking warm potato salad with a lemony garlic vinaigrette with bacon and fresh dill. Yum. A nice change from the typical mayo kind.
- A little research did confirm my huge porcelain pot is indeed most likely a chamber pot. It's so big though, that it had to be a family size. ha. With that thought, I washed it with bleach and ran it through the dishwasher on the 'anti-bacterial' cycle. ha. I'm thinking it will look beautiful sitting on top of my china cabinet.
- The box of shells had some really large ones in it! The penny is there for a size reference. Did I mention I have a shell collection? It's always fun to add to it!
- I filled a large mixing bowl with some of them!
- The biggest surprise was the fact that two fragile sand dollars, which were wrapped in a tissue, were still in perfect condition at the bottom of the box! After a day of auction bidders rummage through it...then the box being tossed on the 'trash' table..and them me sifting through it......not to mention the trip home from the initial vacation however many years ago....incredible really. So pretty!
- There were plastic bags full of shells fresh from a walk on the ocean and this little card included which is from Magnetic Hill, New Brunswick, NJ. I guess someone took a vacation there and when they got home, didn't ever unpack the shells! Who knows how many years ago that was! I was wishing they could talk and tell me how many decades they sat in a cellar or basement waiting to be discovered!
- This little waterproof-lined bag was full of shells. It was stiff from dried salty ocean water. A nice little collection spilled out. I have to admit, I sifted carefully through all of this~ I just knew there was going to be some yucky dead spider or clam or whatever. The only yucky thing was at the bottom of the box...a starfish that was obviously still soft and not dried out when the remaining stuff was laid on top. I'll spare you the details. lol. It was the only thing I didn't keep. ha.
- The pretty gold leaf two handled pot (is it called a waste pot? not to be confused with chamber pot. ha ha) became a pretty flower vase today.
- I think the teapot with the broken lid will be a flower vase, too. Meanwhile, it will look pretty sitting with my white iron stone pitchers. The teapot itself is in perfect condition. I'm glad I rescued it from the trash. It looks pretty in my grey and white kitchen. :)
- And last but not least, a sneak peak at my freshly done pedicure for the party this coming Monday. :) Don't forget to paint your finger nails...or toe nails...and join in on the 18th! There's even a giveaway! Check out my sidebar.
I hope you had a lovely day!
Tomorrow will be full of housework to make up for the last two days!
♥
Your day doesn't sound very lazy! I adore all of the treasures you find at your auctions. I think the chamber pot is a total find!!!!
ReplyDeletewell, picking through sea shells and arranging flowers is much more fun that mopping the kitchen floor and scrubbing toilets. lol.
DeleteLove your teapot!
ReplyDeleteLook beauty! And dont believe you are lazy you alwsys made ton of things!:)
I laundry too and have to iron!
The pictures are beauty!
well, I wasn't napping, but it wasn't strenuous at all. lol. :)
Deletereally interesting group of treasures, my favorite is the antique cup, its a treasure, The chamber pot, ha, I knew what it was right away, we had them at our house, it was an old farm house and we didn't use them but they just always stayed there, you know how some old places are left untouched well that was the way on our family farm.I love your sea shells, the treasures you find really do make you think what the story might be behind them,
ReplyDeleteI'd love to know the story behind the sea shells...and why nobody ever looked at them again or unpacked them after the trip! And I want to know who many years ago that was!
DeleteYeah..chamber pots. I'm SO glad to be living with modern conviences. lol. Even a litter box is more updated than that with the clumping stuff. lol!
that is just amazing that all this was in the trash. so glad you rescued them and they will be enjoyed.
ReplyDeleteI don't think your title is probably accurate though, hard to imagine you could really be lazy even if you wanted to.
It is amazing that it was in the trash...and not only that, but people paid for it...and didn't want it. It's always interesting to see what is left behind!
DeleteOh my!! I love all the shells...some unique ones too and i like the bigger ones too!! they would look good in a home by the ocean...wink wink...we have the same nautical taste I think!! P.S. saw abby emailed you..lol..so cute!! 2 weeks until ohio bound!!!
ReplyDeleteI know...love the shells. Can never have too many! :)
DeleteYeah, she wanted drawings! I told her in my spare time. lol.
Only two weeks? That will be here before you know it!
I like your lazy day. I spent my day playing with my little friend Andrew. I think he wondered what happened to all the other children who are usually here. We did puzzles, played Little People, went outside, played Duplos (giant Legos), ran Matchbox cars down tubes, ate lunch outside, and took a rest. Oh, yes, and we fed the baby who spent her day here too. Maybe I will get my vacuum cleaner out tomorrow. The dust bunnies are having a field day!
ReplyDeleteFun day! yes, the vaccuum comes out tomorrow here, along with dusting rags, the mop and Windex. haha. But today was fun. Isn't the weather lovely?
DeleteMy pictures are already taken too ;) I'm ready for Monday!!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of turning the tea pot into a flower vase. Very creative and pretty!!
yay...can't wait to read your story and see your nails! So fun!
DeleteMe too!! I just realized though, I may have done the same color. Woops... hahahaha Well, I could add my mani this time. They don't match ;)
DeleteOh, I don't care. You were my foot twin before! lol.! The blues are in so there will be several I'm sure.
Deletethat pedicure is at the end of some very long legs...my eyes are not that good...ha....that is a very cool bag...and booyah...see i know a chamber pot when i see one....arent you glad you found out before you were ladeling soup out of it...smiles...
ReplyDeleteyep..long legs..hahaha. And no closeups yet! lol.
DeleteOh yeah...not going to be cooking in that chamber pot. lol. But like Laurie said, would probably be super at growing flowers in. haha.
Lots of great shells and seaside treats!! Lovin' that blue nail polish!! xoxo ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteIt was so fun sorting through them! Love the blue on my toes...my fingers? Not so much! ha.
DeleteWhat treasures! The coffee mug is gorgeous!
ReplyDeletewell, hello Jensa! :) How are you doing? I'm loving the mug, too...very unique!
DeleteI have plenty of fresh dill in the garden for you :) your day sounds wonderful except for the posibility of fire? :) Yikes! :)
ReplyDeleteI have a little pot of dill that is doing pretty well! I should plant more since I love it. haha...hopefully no fire if I'm on my toes. :)
DeleteEven when you take it easy you get an awful lot accomplished. It just doesn't seem like work when it's handling so many things you love, does it? I really like your "wedgewood" blue polish.
ReplyDeleteThat is so true...it was fun, enjoyable stuff! I like the blue, but it's already chipping off my fingernails. Housewives just can't wear polish on their fingers...you do dishes once and they aren't perfect any longer! ha.
DeleteI love those sand dollars, what a find.;) And you have such beautiful feet.;) Have a nice weekend dear Betsy.;)
ReplyDeletexoxo
PS: I am glad to learn that I inspired you to notice nature a little bit more.;) <3
you absolutely did...and did you see my moon widget? Now I know what it's doing even if there are clouds. :)
DeleteHi Betsy .. gosh - you have your work cut out .. but at least you keep yourself entertained in and around keeping that wary eye open. Love your photos and all the contents - now I'm looking forward to that dinner .. and the potato salad - now the Guernsey potatoes are out - I've been thinking of making some of that .. and new potatoes just simply prepared with a few chives and some runny butter .. delicious! Love the tootsies .. cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteYou're a brilliant manager of your home and deserve lots of puttering around!! Yay!! Take care
ReplyDeletex
love to putter, kitty! It's my very favorite thing to do! ha. And yes, you do get things done that way..just at a slower, more enjoyable pace. :)
DeleteI sooo love me fresh spring potatoes! Loved them fried, love them baked, love them boiled and made into a salad with mayo, garlic, celery leaves, whatever... Or just with diced and stir-fried red onions!
ReplyDeleteOooh...me, too, Dez! I love them all of those ways! They are one of my very favorite foods!
DeleteOh Betsy, I know you're not kidding with the details of managing your boys. I'm sure most people don't believe me when I say that managing Matt is a lot like having a toddler in the house ... lol! It's really not funny, but you have to laugh to keep your sanity! I love the way you always find creative uses for your auction treasures!
ReplyDeleteOh, I know...it can be stressful! We had a couple of years when they were young where Spencer kept running away. Terrible. When I got up this morning, the frig was open. lol...
DeleteIt's always nice to have a lazy day! :)
ReplyDeleteBetsy,
ReplyDeleteI think your little shell from New Brunswick is actually from the province of New Brunswick, in Canada. There is a Magnetic Hill tourist attraction there, I think in Moncton...unless of course the city in New Jersey has one too, which would be quite the coincidence.
wow...thanks for telling me that. I just saw Brunswick and automatically thought of New Jersey! :)
DeleteNB is right by me
DeleteBut still beats me if it is from such a sea
well, isn't that cool
Deletesome shells from your pool
are now in my home
and I didn't even have to roam!
Well close to my pool
DeleteWhich is just as cool
For a "lazy Thursday," that was quite the busy little post! Sounds like your home is full of seashells! Love those long legs, btw! :)
ReplyDeleteYou'd think I lived near the ocean, huh?
DeleteAnd thank you.... :)
Exactly... but I can't think of any oceans near Ohio. And you're quite welcome, doll.
DeleteOnly water is Lake Erie...but that's 4 hours north of me!
DeleteHi etsy how are you?
ReplyDeletehaha...sorry...I thought this was an email and replied that way. :)
DeleteI'm just fine. Are you feeling better?
I answer you in mail too. I dont feel well and today the kids their party you know and tomorrow too!
DeleteI know you have a lot to do! :(
Deleteof course Im in in 10 kids will sleep here more mine:(
DeleteOh, they will have fun! At least they are old enough to entertain themselves!
Deletewhat a lovely collection! And with all the men in your home, that could be a lot of managing! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteyes, and they all need managing in their own special way. lol....
DeletePFFFFFFFFFT you call that lazy?
ReplyDeleteHmm I think you are a tad crazy
The cat calls lazy sleeping all day
And eating at his bay
That is it
No pretty pics for such a fit
Just lazying around
Not spinning round and round..haha
oh, you do crack me up
Deleteas I sit here with my coffee cup.
At least the pain in your arm
hasn't made you loose your charm.
LOL that I still have indeed
DeleteTo bad I couldn't yank the pain out like a weed.
I always enjoy reading your blog but I particularly like to read about your auction finds. These were little gems today! Also I love your sidebar notes and the current one about Spencer dancing with you is so sweet!
ReplyDeletethanks, kathleen....my friend and coworker Julie and I have the best time rummaging through any discarded stuff. Usually it's pure trash but we seem to find a treasure or two!
DeleteThat was SO fun with Spencer. haha...he can be quite charming. :)
Everything!
ReplyDeleteCharming, simply charming!
(really love the coffee mug)
Ewweeehhheee the toes, (I just made up that word)
I agree...today I'm finding all the charming stuff a home in my house. lol. Trying to be careful not to clutter up the whole place, though. haha.
Deleteneat word...hahahaha...wish I could hear you say it! ;)
I love your auction finds, especially the shells.
ReplyDeletethanks, stevie...I've had a ball washing them up and displaying them! :)
Deletethese photographs came out extremely well. Love the sharpness and the color in these, but alas, I will not be painting my toes or fingers lol
ReplyDeletethanks, fred....I've found that natural light really does work best for photography...at least for me it does.
Deleteno polish for you...oh come on now...you need to branch out! lol....
You have created an exciting post. I enjoyed the photos almost as much as reading about them.
