Today at the Auction

I worked an auction today!  Lots of neat things from an estate.  The elderly lady whose things were auctioned off, certainly had some good taste.  Very fun to observe.

         1.  Where else can you find rifles and Haviland on the same table? :)
         2.  This cast iron dinner bell was very cool.  I could call the men to dinner!  ha ha.
  It went $125.
         3.  I loved the large vintage Santa.  And how appropriate that he was standing by the snow skis!
         4.  And lots of pretty glassware!

I didn't bid on anything.  You know how I like to wait and see what people leave for the trash!
Well among the broken items, castaway sets of encyclopedias and dusty cassette players, my coworker Steve and I found a garbage bag still tied shut.  Obviously, it was included in a box lot, but the winning bidder wasn't even interested enough to open the bag and see what he paid for! Well, it was a Vera Bradley garment bag!  Looks brand new! I haven't identified the pattern name yet, but they sell for $135 at www.verabradley.com  Now how cool is that!? :)  Although Steve didn't want it, he was just as excited as I was! ha.  I will probably put it on eBay.

I got another item I'll show you tomorrow.  I need daylight for a good photo.
It's a piece of handmade wood working.  Very old.  Naturally distressed (yeah, that was
before everything was newly distressed to look old! ha ha) and perfect for my zoo. :)

    1. I'm always amazed. This lady had quite a nice Very Bradley purse collection and each was auctioned off separately. Someone just didn't look thoroughly through the items and missed that garmet bag. I'm sure it would have brought a good amount of money. There may have even been a purse to match! Oh dear. hahaha. The poor lady would be rolling over in her grave if she knew! lol.

What a surprise to find in that bag of trash!!!

HaHa, Yes, I said "roast" and it was a tenderloin...I'll do it again on the grill. Gave it such a nice crusty taste.

I'm working on my new blog. I'm calling it: Got a Minute or Two? All kinds of s

    1. Well, your tenderloin looked delicious...and I love being able to do that during the hot days and not turn on the oven!

I LOVE that idea for your blog. The best thing about being wise with years is are the lessons and stories you can share. It's going to be great!

  9. I never hear about auctions around me now, I'm sure they're around but just never hear about them. I'd probably be one of those people to sit and wait until it looks like the bidding will be over and then just get in at the last second hoping it doesn't get rebid up again. The waiting to the end for you seems to normally pay off, good strategy and you should get a pretty penny for that bag on ebay. at least half of what it retails right? I love the shot with santa and the skis, very neat. Thanks

    1. you should look online for live estate auctions in your area. I'm sure you could find some! It's always interesting to see what is there, what it goes for, etc. And of course the people watching is always entertaining. ha. Yeah, I would think I could get half...especially if someone collects this particular pattern. Will be fun to find out!

  12. Wow! What a find! I'm going to start going to auctions and digging thru bags to see if I can find one. I like Vera Bradley, but it's a little expensive for my budget. :)

    1. it is expensive. That's why I only have a wallet and sunglasses case. lol. Actually, I prefer a leather purse and have her stuff as accessories. Still...someone will love it and hopefully buy it from me! :) Hey..I'm imagining your house a little quieter today. Bitter sweet, I suppose. xo

    2. Yes, it is quieter! Funny how I kind of miss the noise. :)

    1. I'm like that, too! Nothing is too good to use...sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I find we enjoy it more if it's used...and if it breaks, it breaks. Oh well.

    1. it most certainly is like a treasure hunt....mostly junk and then a pleasant surprise. Kind of like going to the thrift store, right? ha.

  18. Stick it on ebay and get some dough
If you don't want to keep it at your show
That is the best thing to do
And then spend it on you
    As for the santa though
The one you have at your show
Is way better I have to say
As he just likes to flap and play..hahaha

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yep, I think I'd rather have the dough
than to keep it around my show!

oh...why didn't I see this comment coming from you?
hahahaha...I should have been expecting it, too!
And I'd say instead of flaps, it's more of a wag
but maybe we shouldn't get into that.

      Delete
    2. haha yeah I expected you to see it coming a mile away
But I suppose you were having an off day
      From all the auction stuff
So missing out on the wag or flap isn't so rough
