Random Thoughts

  1. What was the weather like today?  You name it, we had it, except for snow! ha.  We had heat and humidity, dark gray and cool breezes, rain, sun, and heat again!  See my mint growing around the crab apple tree?  It's going to take over the whole tree if it grows any higher. :)
  2. We're winding down the school year here.  The last day is Thursday.  I sat in the silence this morning and puttered around online and drank my coffee.  The quiet was so wonderful after a busy holiday weekend!  I usually have the TV on the news, but all I wanted to hear was the ticking clocks, the oscillating room fan, and on occasional chirp from Mr. Bird.
  3. We have those tell tale signs that school is almost over.  Worn out socks, worn out lunch boxes, and worn out back packs.  They are all going in the trash after the last day of school. Maybe even some of their worn out school clothes, too! :)
  4. Alex has renewed an old autistic obsession of throwing things away.  He used to come and take a tissue away from me while I was blowing my nose and not finished just to throw it away!  He'll come running from another room to get it if he hears that little sound a tissue makes when you pull it from the box!  He also used to search for things to put in the trash...scraps of paper, unopened mail, grocery receipts, etc.  He started this up again last week.  This morning I walked into the kitchen to discover that he had removed the foil that was covering the pies.  Not only was the foil thrown away, but the pies were neatly sitting on the floor in a corner.  I guess he didn't think they should be adding clutter to the kitchen island! lol.  Hmm.  Could be a long summer! haha.
  5. For the last week, I've been awakened to The Battle Hymn of the Republic blasting from Harry's CD player.  It's enough to raise us off the mattress, literally! lol.  You have NO idea how irritating that is. lol.  Occasionally, it's been accompanied by Alvin and the Chipmunks singing I've Been Working On The Railroad on Spencer's laptop.  Oh my.  Just another reason I call this place The Zoo.
  6. Marmalade came trotting into the house recently with a bird in his mouth.  The tail and legs were hanging out.  Eew.  He was promptly shooed outside..and told to take his dinner with him! ha.
  7. Can you grow a cherry tree if you plant a pit?  I have three pits drying on the window sill.  Should I try?
  8. Today it dawned on me that I should move the silverware holder in the dishwasher to be closer to me and the sink, instead of on the other side of the bottom rack.  So much better.  I can't believe it took me 24 years to think of that. lol.
  9. I got a call today from someone opening up a gift shop.  They would like to have my gift baskets for sale in it!  Isn't that fun?  I'm going to visit their shop and take a few baskets in and give it a go!  And you know, he randomly linked to me from LinkedIn!  So if you wonder if that business networking media is worth it, there you go. :)
  10. Taylor finished May-term last week and hitched a ride to Pennsylvania with another student to visit "that sweet girlfriend" who was already home for the summer.  We pick him up at the airport tomorrow.  I miss him when he's not here. :)  It's cheaper to fly than to pay for the gas/tolls to drive!  Crazy!
How about you?  Any random thoughts?
Surely I'm not the only one! ha.

  3. My daughter got me up at 1:30 am and then I got again up at 3:15 to pack my son's lunch, took him to work. Came home at 4:30 and gave the kitchen cabinets another coat of paint then packed 2 more lunches. Then it was more strawberries then the library with the 2 other kids, worked in the flowerbeds, took a short nap and served supper in 2 shifts. The heat was horrendous! But it's finally RAINING! PTL!! Is that random enough ? ha

    1. the heat is terrible...and the rain doesn't really cool it down too much. :( It's still humid. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Although I hear in another day it is supposed to be cooler. And you need to get to bed early tonight! Whew! I'm still waiting on The Mister to serve the second shift of dinner here. lol...

    4. it's dry here as well and I have to keep watering the newly seeded grass so this will give it what it really needs :) I should plant some more sweet corn and some green beans, but then I'll have to pick them :( Love to eat them, hate to pick them. My tomatoes and peppers are doing well though.

    5. sweet corn...yum...one of the best things about summer! I've never grown it!

  6. Plant the cherries!!!! Ok, so random, BUT....

In high school I did a science fair project called "frozen seeds". Basically if you freeze seeds, they have a better chance of growing. I interviewed farmers and everything!! I even won the science fair that year. Ok, so I was a total nerd...but the point is...freeze your cherry seeds!! hahaha

    1. That is so very cool! So, you're mimicking winter or is it something more complicated than that? And does it matter for how long? Ok...into the freezer they go.... Thanks, Jax!

    2. oh...should they dry out a few days first?

      Delete
    3. I'm not sure how long...it was a long time ago! But I know that it was for a few days. Then I planted the frozen seeds and the unfrozen seeds..turns out the frozen seeds grew quicker and healthier!

    4. ok...that is so cool. I'm going to try it!

  8. haha sure will be a long summer
But at least things will go in the trash with ease and you'll always here the music of some drummer
Or the working on the rail road
At least Marmy didn't bring in a toad
Or maybe he wanted another friend for Mr. Bird
And cheaper to fly? How absurd
That is great about the gift baskets too
    Random is fun from you

    1. yes, I have to mentally condition myself for the summer
cause having no solitude can be quite a bummer!
      hahaha.
I did see a toad the other day
but it was happy and not in the jaws of Tiger or Grey.
      Yeah, cheaper to fly
      so why drive?
      Quicker, too
but that was known by you.
      And flying can be fun
as long as you don't bring a gun.
      lol.
      hahaha.

      Delete
    2. Yeah bring a gun
And a hand will go between each bun
Along with throw in some bay
That will not leave you having a very nice day
But a road trip can be fun
Top down and basking in the sun

      Delete
    3. road trip...so true!
And you can be loaded down with ammo, too!

  11. Well...
I always have random thoughts! LOL
Our weather for the past 1 or 2 weeks has been sunny/cloudy/rain/sunny/cloudy/rain/sunny(that just one day!
Its sounds like you will have a very busy summer....you may have to invest in some ear plugs for the early morning music.
So funny about the silverware holder...mine is not close to the sink either.8~)
    The counter must be cleaned.
I would try to grow the cherry pits...if you lived closer you could put them in my greenhouse.
That is so neat about your gift baskets in the local shop. 8~)
BTW....with the holiday yesterday...today seems like Monday.
I hope to get a blog post in this week....since I randomly post.
    Take care,
    Nancy

    1. Well, move your silverware holder and see if you like it better. ha. I couldn't believe how much easier it was. I had to set it down through some spokes because it isn't supposed to be there, but that was fine...it kind of keeps the spoons from spooning. lol!

We haa a thunderstorm during the wee hours of the morning. I usually don't hear them, but this one woke me up. I was able to go right back to sleep, but unfortunately hubs couldn't.

  18. I think I may have become addicted to chaos. I'm feeling a little bored. Is that random? :) Oh, and the obsessive throwing away sounds familiar--laughing about the Battle Hymn of the Republic. :) You need to borrow their headphones to sleep with. :)

Are you going to do grocery trip posts this summer? That's one of my favorite parts of the summer on your blog. :)

    1. bored? Shhhh...that's a bad word! Chaos will hear that and attack!

I'm one to obsessively throw away...but stuff that really should be thrown away! lol. A year or so ago, Alex unwrapped 100 suckers so he could throw out the wrappers. Ack! hahaha.

Yes, we'll have fun documenting the grocery trips! I'm wondering what they will do this year...seems like each year there are improvements! :)

  20. AAHHH Betsy - thank you for allowing us a peek into your life and heart. I don't know anyone who is better equipped to be a zoo keeper than you are! =) I can't imagine! waking up to loud music...it would NOT begin my day on the right foot for sure. You may not get any cherry trees for years...but you've got nothing to lose by trying. They're sure not gonna grow while the pits sit on your counter huh? Enjoy the quiet while it lasts Dear...summer is about to begin. Bless your sweet heart!

  21. So cool about the offer from the gift shop -- they've obviously heard good things about your gift baskets! I've learned to always look closely before letting one of the cats into the house -- I almost let one in carrying a snake one day -- gives me the creeps just thinking about it...lol! I had to laugh about your comments regarding Alex throwing things away. My son Matt (with Asperger's) is just the opposite, he can't throw anything away -- wrappers, junk mail, empty baggies, used kleenex, you name it, he can't part with it. Everything is shoved under his bed, under the livingroom furniture, in drawers, etc. I've always had to throw things out when he's not around or he has an absolute fit about it. And what is it with autism and loud music?? Matt can never listen to music at a normal level -- he'll turn it down at our request but as soon as the next song starts he has to turn it up full blast again!! I hope you thoroughly enjoy your last few days of quiet!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. yeah, the loud music is a mystery. And they like multiple layers of it, too. The ironic thing is, there are times when they cover their ears at things that are much quieter...or need those sound reducing headsets! It's unexplainable. ha.

  23. 1. Had hot sun but some rain over night that was much needed for the new flowers we put in. Hope you're keeping cool. My parent never had air-con and I don't know how they live without it.
    2. The school year is almost over? I guess I hadn't thought of that since my daughter graduated college 2 weeks ago but yes, you're right.
    5. Being been awakened by various songs. LOL! I bought my daughter a really cool retro alarm clock for Christmas but sadly it has much to be desired in ring tone because the locked-in volume could wake the dead. Are you experiencing this??
    7. I have often thought about planting peach pits. But what I know is that it may take years before you see any fruit. Did you plant your pits by now.
    8. 24 years to move silverware holder in the dishwasher? Be thankful it wasn't 25.
    9. I'm so proud of you. I hope it turns out wonderfully.

My random thoughts: I've working on the Cuteness blog. I have some friends from face book playing Pet Society. Are u on there? But it won't be 'just' pet society. I'll be posting parts of my cute collection and various other finds online. See the little logo in the side bar of TB&T or use this http://www.honeybeezjunction.com/daydreamsandspaghettios/ Accounts are exactly the same as my original blog.

    1. the volume isn't locked in...they crank it up! We say "turn that down" a million times a day. lol. We've been known to super glue volume buttons at a low volume on tv's and other electronics....yes, we were that desparate. lol.

I'll come look at the pet society! fun!

  24. I'm glad that Alex did not throw the pies into the trash. And I suppose throwing things away is a quieter obsession than blaring music. Perhaps it is just their way of getting you up in the morning. :)

Congrats on the gift baskets. Looking at all of your creations, I always thought you could open up a shoppe of your own one day if you really wanted to put in the work.

    1. thanks, yuji! I suppose if life wasn't so full with boys and other things, that I would open a shop! It will be interesting to see how this goes.

Quieter obsessions are much easier to deal with, yes. lol. Oh my. haha.

  25. Many fun things to ponder, love the one about your son throwing things away and the loud music. I so wish we could understand how they view the world, I find it so very fascinating.;) You must have a lot of patience.;)
Not sure you can grow a cherry from a pit, usually fruit trees are grafted onto a rootstock. But you will most likely get a plant out of it if you plant it, whether it will bear cherries, that remains to be seen;))
