W is for Wide Open Spaces

Whenever I'm in a different part of the country that has rolling hills or tall mountains,
I am in awe that the locals get to enjoy that beauty every day!  But living in the
flat farm lands of Ohio has it's beauty, too!  The thing I notice most is that we
can see the land stretch out for miles and the horizon far off in the distance
without it being blocked by buildings, mountains or trees.

I took these photos last week.  It was a gorgeous spring day and the clouds were
amazing.  It was certainly a wide open, big sky day!

Pictures through my sun roof.  That top photo could be looking down at clouds from an
airplane, looking up from the ground or even looking at water from the railing on a
cruise ship!  They all look very similar!

What about you?  Do you see mountains, buildings, flat lands or water
when you are out and about doing your weekly routines?

I've joined the A to Z Challenge for the month of April!
We are celebrating the letter W all day, Thursday the 25th!

  1. I see rolling hills, and farmland, some orchards. I have a soft spot for Ohio's flat landscape.....looks a lot like northern Indiana, and I lived there for a couple years.

    3. yes..smog. That's one bad thing about the big cities! At least we can breath out in the country! ha.

  4. Since we live at the bottom of the foothills of Big Tujunga Canyon, I see mountains on 3 sides of my home. Five minutes from the Canyon and that's another beautiful drive.

No lakes, or ocean close by....but I'll take the mountains. We lived in the San Joaquin Valley for 27 years, and it's so FLAT ~ no mountains in view!!

    1. both are beautiful in their own ways, aren't they? A few years ago I spent 4 days in Santa Clarita and the mountains were amazing. I couldn't stop talking about them! ha. I think the locals thought I was crazy. I'm sure they take them for granted after a while.

    2. That's true..when I visited my friend in Tucson, AZ I missed the green trees and grass...and by the time I left a week later, I was in love with the desert landscape, rocks and cactus. We do adapt...don't we. haha

It is somewhat like that in the one horse town I had to flee
    But not quite
As it is more of an ugly sight
All I see day in day out is stupid stone
    Enough to make me groan

  7. some rolling hills and farmland and way too much traffic. with Rt. 30 and Rt. 41 being very busy main routes that intersect in town the traffic is heavy most times. summer errands need to be done in the forenoon!! I miss my quieter Holmes County hills :)

    1. your photos are beautiful I might add :) nothing like a beautiful quiet countryside!

    2. you have rolling hills, too? oh, how nice. The only traffic we have out here is if you get stuck behind some piece of farm equipment that is out on the road! ha.

  13. Betsy, those are great shots. I love the clouds, you really captured them well. I can't wait until it's nice enough to go driving around with the top down and snapping up pics. To think just 3 weeks ago we were in the 80's and since then mid 40's seems to be the norm again, and even a snow shower on monday. Thanks

    1. I know! We had that little tease of early spring here, too and since then it's been chilly and even with some frost! Not long though and you NYers will be enjoying a real spring. Hopefully no more snow! I love clouds, too, so fun to watch them and find creatures. ha.

  20. Well, hate to say this but, here in CO we have BOTH1. mountains to the west and wide open plains looking to the east! Oh well! BUT we don;t have beautiful green for more than a few weeks a year! Lovely pics. :)

    1. I guess you get to enjoy both that way! Southeast Ohio has rolling hills but we seldom travel that way.

  21. My favorite photo was the one through the roof with the sun blazing but hid by clouds. Seriously good catch! I see mostly trees but then here, in this neck of woods, the trees are protected. If one falls in your backyard, YOU have to replace it. It doesn't matter if the elements knocked it over or not. It cost us a few hundred to have fallen tree cut up and hauled away and we almost got sued over it because we didn't report it first not to mention we had to 'buy' another tree to replace it. And yet they sanction aborting children without batting an eye. Go figure.

    1. thanks, deb...it was so beautiful to see up there that I had to stop and take a picture! Wow...having to replace the trees..that is something! We've had to hire a company to remove dead trees before...it's expensive! We don't have to report it to anyone, though! wow!
