Today was constant April showers!
Cool, wet, and grey.
The flowering trees have peaked and the blooms will soon give way to lush green leaves.
Today was also cat clinic day! I successfully rounded up the remaining 5 kittens
and took them in for their neuter/spaying appointments. I let out a little cheer when I got that
last one in a cage. ha ha. I have to say that my little cats looked quiet tame and
sweet next to the big brut tom cats that were in line all around us. Whoa!
There were some unhappy mangy cats in those traps! But we all survived and they
are here at home now, under the dining room table.
Mission accomplished! Nine cats done in all.
It would still be great to catch the two moms, though. One just had a new litter and one
is pregnant! So they are my next goal. And two more tom cats who are seen occasionally. Haven't seen the kittens yet as she still has them in hiding. Something tells me they will all eventually end up on my back porch. And then we'll start phase three of clinic runs.
Here's what I'm eating as I type up this post.
I baked a blackberry strawberry crisp this afternoon.
What a lovely way to end the day!
So how is your weekend coming along?
♥
You did good to catch them all! That will make a difference. :)
ReplyDeleteThe flower shots are beautiful!
I know it will make a difference! One man in line behind me this morning said he started with a stray having a litter in his garage last summer and now he has 28 cats. lol!
DeleteGood on you , getting the remainder of the kitties to the clinic, it's a lot of work, I know.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures, the rain dripping off the tree leaves so refreshing.
I'm drooling over the dessert, any chance of the recipe so we can all share :)
Have a wonderful weekend.
~Jo
Here's the recipe Jo...
Deletehttp://myfivemen.blogspot.com/2010/07/blackberry-crisp.html
really easy and yummy!
So Betsy you go again with all these cats to the Clinic? I love their cages (jaulas?) look so cute!
ReplyDeleteBetsyyyy!! where are you??I cannot come before cause I was feeding the dogs LOL.
DeleteYour dessert look georgeous oh dear I will happy to eat something like that but Im so tired today:(
Betsy here are a lot of people waiting for you LOL
DeleteHi, Gloria~ I was tired as sat down on the couch for a bit. :)
Deleteyes five more cats to the clinic. Whew! They are sleeping now.
The crisp is yummy. I thought I deserved a treat. lol.
nice dessert dear and yes I think you was tired:)
DeleteI was tired! I feel better now. :)
DeleteTry to go bed soon, that is I want Im finishing other post LOL
Deleteyes, I need to go to bed earlier but I always stay up to do more things! ha.
Deleteoh betsy...i want some of the crisp.....
ReplyDeletegood job on the cats...ugh and good luck with the mom...a really nice day here today...got a little sun on the neck as i was working the yard and cleaning bricks to rebuild the meditation bench...
so you stole the sun? ha.
Deleteplease have some crisp...there's plenty!
Congratulations on getting all the cats to the clinic.
ReplyDeleteOne of the grocery stores here had blackberries on sale this week. I bought several pints. We ate them all. None to cook with unless I go back to the store for more :-)
I snacked on blackberries for a couple of days before making the crisp. They look like a great crop this year...big and juicy!
DeleteOh the crisp looks delicious. Love the capturing of the rain on the flower and leaf, and that tree is gorgeous. Just think, you'd only need 7 more cat carriers and 1 for a dog that thinks he's a cat and you'd be set to take those pets from pat's post a few days back:)
ReplyDeletePat swears I'm going to take the crown from his nanny. lol. Mine are strays...and the number isn't growing by choice haha...hopefully later this year I can have our neighborhood ferals under control. haha.
DeleteLOL the crown will be yours
DeleteWhether choice or not at your shores..haha
yeah sometimes you can't control the number lol I have a feral cat and it took him about 4 years but he's finally domestic now. He was abused as a kitten, I found him in a garbage can where some idiot (to be polite), put a cigar out on him and tossed him in. I heard the tiny meow and brought him to a clinic, but when the lady in VA told me that the odds weren't good I had to bring him home. I think it's great that you're taking care of them, if not you then who, well that's how I felt when I had that choice to leave him at this particular clinic or bring cocoa home- yeah, I named him by then, actually it was virginia, but I couldn't tell if he was a boy or girl, oh well. But yeah, the first few years he'd come around for food and all but he'd stay in the corners and under chairs, but now he comes around all the time, still likes his alone time and all but you can tell he's finally happy. The orange one on the other hand she's been purring and pawing for love since day one lol If I could do it I'd take the crown myself haha
Deleteoh, what a sweet kitty...wow..some people are just horrible to animals. I just don't get it. Glad you were there to resue him. It is amazing how feral cats can be so wild and mistrusting. I still have not petted or held some of these that have been on my back porch 8 months! They are just so leary even though they know I'm the one that feeds them! ha. I am making progress though, and they will come inside and even eat from my hand. Just so I don't try to pet them, they are fine. haha.
DeleteSee Pat...Fred wants the crown! maybe I'll share. :)
yeah, give them time, if they're anything like my cocoa, they'll come around eventually, most likely not like other cats, but you'll get a sense of their affection. Getting them to eat from your hand's a good start. Yeah, that crown would be nice, but unless I get a bigger house won't be happening soon :)
DeleteNine cats? My God! One is enough for me. . . . My cat, Dinky, is like your Charcoal. I wonder if they are related? S'pose not, too far away.
ReplyDeleteHow are things in the Colonies these days?
Hi keith...what a nice surprise to see you! Yes, I agree one is enough! How did this happen? lol. Don't know if you've been following my story or not, but two feral mothers brought me their litters last year..nine kittens in all.
DeleteYou are doing such a positive thing by rounding up/vetting all of those cats. Quite a lot of work.
ReplyDeleteYou know, it's more stressful than I ever expected! I'm exhausted! ha.
DeleteYay for your success! That cobbler/crisp looks scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteI know! yay...I'm so pleased! Whew!
DeleteGlad to hear the good news about the cats. 8~)
ReplyDeleteThe dessert looks yummy!
Oldest daughter and kiddos go home tomorrow...
my house will slow down a little bit. 8~)
Take care and have a great weekend.
Nancy
oh, I bet you're having a wonderful time...but I bet you're tired, too! ha. Enjoy!
DeleteI think you are an angel in disguise for doing what you do, taking this upon yourself is such a wonderful thing, that desert looks so good, my weekend has been wonderful so far, just great. We did some shopping, walking eating, more walking, talking and watched the sun go dooooown, now I'm typing to you with a cup of mint tea and no beautiful desert such as yours, all I have is a arrowroot biscuit.
ReplyDeletewell, thanks for the encouragement, laurie...that means a lot!
Deleteyour day sounds wonderful! what a perfect saturday!
Pooooor Marmy can no longer humpty hump
ReplyDeleteThat might make him quite the grump
He got away with it for so long
And now he'll have to sing a new song..haha
Like how all the cages are different too
Just adds to your kitty zoo
Sure they want out
And are giving quite the shout
But glad you caught them all
At your hall
Until more come
And then as said by my little rhyming bum
You get the crown
To wear all over town
Sigh.
DeleteI guess the dilemma will be
whether to wear my wonder woman tiara
or my queen of the cats crown you gave me.
lol.
LOL the cat one will draw less attention from the creepers that are about
DeleteUnless you like their little whistle and shout
With their creepy lazy eye
And look of that freddy kreuger guy
are you kidding?
Deleteyou don't think wonder woman could take them on
with her laso, boots, and pellet gun?
lol.
Hmm I suppose she could take them on
DeleteBut then they may mess up her lawn
So the crown still wins out
To avoid such a shout
Beautiful, beautiful photos, Betsy! And, congratulations on your successful spaying/newtering mission!! You are amazing! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeletethanks, tanna...so glad I got that done! yippee! ha.
DeleteThat tree is spectacular...but that yummy dessert...can you send some my way please? Yummy! Oh, I said that already LOL
ReplyDeleteplease stay and have some crisp. Whipped cream or ice cream? :)
Deletehey, you changed your name. :)
DeleteWhat a Trooper you are! My neighbor CiCi and her roomate, Elaine have 7 indoor cats..... I've seen cat cages lined up when they have to make Vet trips.
ReplyDeleteThe dessert looks so so yummy. Yesterday Don surprised me and ask if I could have any piece of pie, what would I choose.... I was in the mood for Coconut Cream...but also love boysen berry with a scoop of ice cream. We fliped a coin, Coconut heads, berry tails...Coconut won, and he said "Let's go to CoCo's and have pie and coffee....this is 3 in the afternoon.... Of course I said YES!!!!
aw...your Don is so sweet. Mid afternoon...that's when desserts taste the best! Well, breakfast maybe, but afternoon for sure! ha.
DeleteGlad you got the cats rounded up. You done good.
ReplyDeleteAnd that crisp is making me hungry for a snack! :)
I'll gladly share with you Yuji! :)
DeleteOh my goodness!! You sure are one good Mamma taking care of the kitty population Would be sure good to catch the two Mamas responsible for all of this. NEW LITTER???? OH BOY!!
ReplyDeletetwo more litters coming, lady...2! Ugh. lol.
DeleteThe sherry blossom looks wonderful....today I went to the park to enjoy the beauty of the bloom...The dessert really appealing and the kitties ready to go :)
ReplyDelete!!! Have a great weekend..You have a lovely blog.
iela
Hi Iela...thanks for visiting. We're having the most perfect weather here today, too!
DeleteWhat a fun blog! I'm so glad I found you. New follower here. I’m enjoying reading my fellow “A to Z”ers. I look forward to visiting again.

Hi Sylvia...thanks so much for visiting and leaving your link! The challenge has been great! I'm so glad I joined in!
DeleteYou deserve TWO helpings of your blackberry, strawberry crisp!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your success Dr. Doolittle!
It sounds like you still might have your hands full.
You are my hero!
I DID have two helpings! Shhh! lol.
DeleteAh, I was doing good until I saw that dessert and realized I wasn't going to get any. :) Glad you're being a responsible Dr. Doolittle and taking care of your kitties.
ReplyDeleteI'd gladly share a bowl of crisp with you Magpie. :)
DeleteLooks like you got some of the rain that we had over here on the far west coast on Thursday!
ReplyDeleteAlso, glad you got the kitty situation under control, they can get pretty crazy after awhile...
Well, we needed the rain, so that was great. It's gorgeous here this morning now...quiet breezes and warm sun.
DeleteYeah, nine cats is crazy enough, don't you think? ha.
You have my quiet admiration - such a good job done with those kittens. Getting even one to the vets is exhausting, I'm not surprised you're tired. But well done.
ReplyDeleteI know..it's stressful! And when they aren't domesticated enough that they let you pet and pick them up, it's quite the feat to get them in the carriers. I'm amazed at the stress. ha. I slept well and they all seem to be doing well this morning and are out in the yard laying in the sun. :)
DeleteAwwww those kitties in their cat carriers all in a row is so adorable! Awwwww bless you Betsy for helping these sweethearts! I hope the mama kitties do get seen too to - but kittens are so cute - I do hope they end up on your porch so we get to see pics of them! LOL!
ReplyDeleteYou deserve another helping or three of that yummy dessert!
Oh we need rain here in the UK!! Please send some over! :-)
Take care
x
Oh, I know...I'm dieing to see that new litter! I haven't seen her in a few days, though, so who knows! Maybe she thinks there are too many cats here for it to be safe this time. Although I would think the food for all of them would be incentive enough..and that she's done it before. I bought a bag of kitten chow just in case! :)
DeleteHi Betsy .. love the cardinals and the poem, kitties hiding in the palm, one more trip to the clinic - you must have the magic touch to catch them all - or you're the cat-queen with that clever touch ... and the desert looks too delicious ... more coffee for me - cheers and have a happy week .. Hilary
ReplyDeleteWow 5 cats?
ReplyDeletehaha...I know, I know...but there's nine all together! I've been adopted! lol...
DeleteWhich is more challenging? cats or the five men? I know the obvious answer, why am I asking then?
ReplyDeleteAnd the breakfast picture is giving me hangover, I had pancakes in the morning and looking for cure for the sugary rush, you are adding more fuel to the fire. :)
hahaha...cute. Yes, we all know that answer to that one! :)
DeleteI was going to comment about your cat clinic, but my mind is now on the crisp.
ReplyDelete(Seriously, I wish everyone had your attitude about strays)
OH Betsy! GOOD FOR YOU at rounding up the rest of the kittens. I bet they are not very happy yet about it! :)
