Saturday Showers and Second Cat Clinic Trip

Today was constant April showers!

Cool, wet, and grey.

The flowering trees have peaked and the blooms will soon  give way to lush green leaves.

Today was also cat clinic day! I successfully rounded up the remaining 5 kittens
and took them in for their neuter/spaying appointments.   I let out a little cheer when I got that
last one in a cage. ha ha.   I have to say that my little cats looked quiet tame and
sweet next to the big brut tom cats that were in line all around us.  Whoa!
There were some unhappy mangy cats in those traps!  But we all survived and they
are here at home now, under the dining room table.

Mission accomplished!  Nine cats done in all.

It would still be great to catch the two moms, though.  One just had a new litter and one
is pregnant!  So they are my next goal.  And two more tom cats who are seen occasionally. Haven't seen the kittens yet as she still has them in hiding.  Something tells me they will all eventually end up on my back porch. And then we'll start phase three of clinic runs.

Here's what I'm eating as I type up this post.
I baked a blackberry strawberry crisp this afternoon.
What a lovely way to end the day!

So how is your weekend coming along?

    1. I know it will make a difference! One man in line behind me this morning said he started with a stray having a litter in his garage last summer and now he has 28 cats. lol!

Gorgeous pictures, the rain dripping off the tree leaves so refreshing.
I'm drooling over the dessert, any chance of the recipe so we can all share :)

  5. Congratulations on getting all the cats to the clinic.

One of the grocery stores here had blackberries on sale this week. I bought several pints. We ate them all. None to cook with unless I go back to the store for more :-)

    1. I snacked on blackberries for a couple of days before making the crisp. They look like a great crop this year...big and juicy!

  6. Oh the crisp looks delicious. Love the capturing of the rain on the flower and leaf, and that tree is gorgeous. Just think, you'd only need 7 more cat carriers and 1 for a dog that thinks he's a cat and you'd be set to take those pets from pat's post a few days back:)

    1. Pat swears I'm going to take the crown from his nanny. lol. Mine are strays...and the number isn't growing by choice haha...hopefully later this year I can have our neighborhood ferals under control. haha.

      Delete
    2. LOL the crown will be yours
Whether choice or not at your shores..haha

      Delete
    3. yeah sometimes you can't control the number lol I have a feral cat and it took him about 4 years but he's finally domestic now. He was abused as a kitten, I found him in a garbage can where some idiot (to be polite), put a cigar out on him and tossed him in. I heard the tiny meow and brought him to a clinic, but when the lady in VA told me that the odds weren't good I had to bring him home. I think it's great that you're taking care of them, if not you then who, well that's how I felt when I had that choice to leave him at this particular clinic or bring cocoa home- yeah, I named him by then, actually it was virginia, but I couldn't tell if he was a boy or girl, oh well. But yeah, the first few years he'd come around for food and all but he'd stay in the corners and under chairs, but now he comes around all the time, still likes his alone time and all but you can tell he's finally happy. The orange one on the other hand she's been purring and pawing for love since day one lol If I could do it I'd take the crown myself haha

    4. oh, what a sweet kitty...wow..some people are just horrible to animals. I just don't get it. Glad you were there to resue him. It is amazing how feral cats can be so wild and mistrusting. I still have not petted or held some of these that have been on my back porch 8 months! They are just so leary even though they know I'm the one that feeds them! ha. I am making progress though, and they will come inside and even eat from my hand. Just so I don't try to pet them, they are fine. haha.

See Pat...Fred wants the crown! maybe I'll share. :)

      Delete
    5. yeah, give them time, if they're anything like my cocoa, they'll come around eventually, most likely not like other cats, but you'll get a sense of their affection. Getting them to eat from your hand's a good start. Yeah, that crown would be nice, but unless I get a bigger house won't be happening soon :)

  7. Nine cats? My God! One is enough for me. . . . My cat, Dinky, is like your Charcoal. I wonder if they are related? S'pose not, too far away.

How are things in the Colonies these days?

    1. Hi keith...what a nice surprise to see you! Yes, I agree one is enough! How did this happen? lol. Don't know if you've been following my story or not, but two feral mothers brought me their litters last year..nine kittens in all.

That might make him quite the grump
He got away with it for so long
And now he'll have to sing a new song..haha
Like how all the cages are different too
Just adds to your kitty zoo
    Sure they want out
And are giving quite the shout
But glad you caught them all
    At your hall
    Until more come
And then as said by my little rhyming bum
    You get the crown
    To wear all over town

    1. Sigh.
I guess the dilemma will be
whether to wear my wonder woman tiara
or my queen of the cats crown you gave me.
      lol.

    2. LOL the cat one will draw less attention from the creepers that are about
Unless you like their little whistle and shout
      With their creepy lazy eye
And look of that freddy kreuger guy

      Delete
    3. are you kidding?
you don't think wonder woman could take them on
with her laso, boots, and pellet gun?
      lol.

      Delete
    4. Hmm I suppose she could take them on
But then they may mess up her lawn
So the crown still wins out
      To avoid such a shout

The dessert looks so so yummy. Yesterday Don surprised me and ask if I could have any piece of pie, what would I choose.... I was in the mood for Coconut Cream...but also love boysen berry with a scoop of ice cream. We fliped a coin, Coconut heads, berry tails...Coconut won, and he said "Let's go to CoCo's and have pie and coffee....this is 3 in the afternoon.... Of course I said YES!!!!

    1. I know..it's stressful! And when they aren't domesticated enough that they let you pet and pick them up, it's quite the feat to get them in the carriers. I'm amazed at the stress. ha. I slept well and they all seem to be doing well this morning and are out in the yard laying in the sun. :)

  24. Awwww those kitties in their cat carriers all in a row is so adorable! Awwwww bless you Betsy for helping these sweethearts! I hope the mama kitties do get seen too to - but kittens are so cute - I do hope they end up on your porch so we get to see pics of them! LOL!

You deserve another helping or three of that yummy dessert!

Oh we need rain here in the UK!! Please send some over! :-)

    1. Oh, I know...I'm dieing to see that new litter! I haven't seen her in a few days, though, so who knows! Maybe she thinks there are too many cats here for it to be safe this time. Although I would think the food for all of them would be incentive enough..and that she's done it before. I bought a bag of kitten chow just in case! :)
