The theme at Creative Tuesdays this time is Thanksgiving.
I thought I'd try my hand at drawing a cornucopia, spilling out it's bounty of
autumnal fruits and leaves. Of course I had to add some Indian Corn, flowers,
pine cones...and a bird or two! Thanksgiving is almost here! I haven't drawn up the menu yet but I did order the fresh, free range turkey. The faces around our table change every year as we look for those without a place to go, so I don't yet know who will be here or how many that will be! But that's alright since I tend to make too much food anyway. This holiday remains a favorite of mine. It's relaxed, has wonderful meaning and hasn't been ruined by commercialization. A time to count our many blessings and give thanks.
I also love it when there are leftovers to last through the weekend!

No talent required, just some imagination. :)

ReplyDeleteSo pretty, Betsy!!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to post your recipe for baking turkey? I'm already stressing over cooking it!!
nanny ~ well, I never thought of doing that, but I guess I could. Although a fresh turkey cooks differently than others. I'm actually thinking of roasting it breast-down this year. It doesn't come out as pretty, but I guess it's juicier that way. Can't really decide, though, since I love a beautiful presentation. ha.
ReplyDeleteYour sketches get more and more detailed. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Silver :)

ReplyDeleteSo... how long does it take for you to create one of your drawings?
ReplyDeleteAnother Masterpiece Betsy, with lots of color.
Christine ~ longer than the real artists! lol...
ReplyDeleteIt takes me a couple of hours to draw and a couple more to color.
And I usually don't do both of those steps in one day.
Nice work. (:
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cornucopia!! I like number seven on your thankfulness list. :)

ReplyDeleteWell, That's a beautiful cornucopia drawing given the unique Betsy treatment! Great work you did for thanksgiving and I hope you enjoyed lot for paper playing.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you have a menagerie. I was just reading your side bar about what made your month good. Lovely. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteHi Betsy,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know that some of us think you too are a "real" artist. As long as there are others who enjoy your art then you are a real artist.
Not sure where you find the time, but dang it woman do you ever sleep?
You accomplish more in a day than I do in a week.
You are right about Thanksgiving being such a wonderful holiday. I am sure if they could find a way for us to spend more money on it then I am sure they would. But I think it is safe because if we were spending a lot of money on Thanksgiving then we would have less for Christmas. And since we all want to keep the economy going, we just keep spending and spending. Really big sigh!!!
God bless.
Beautiful work...all the colors of fall and perfect for the theme of Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteYour illustration in so colourful. There is so much going on yet all the elements have lovely detail
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Love the cornucopia, and it's a beautifully rendered tribute to Thanksgiving (-: The little bird is adorable.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful cornucopia...so much detail makes it very special. And, of course, I love that you have included a bird in with all the bounty. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful Betsy with so much detail and colour. I love the birds and the half hidden words. Very clever.

ReplyDeleteYour drawing is beautifully done, Betsy! It would make a lovely card.
ReplyDeleteI cooked Thanksgiving dinner for over 30 years for my extended family but the baton has been passed to a nephew and his wife who want to host for the first time as they just bought a big house that has lots of room compared to my small house. I am just making a few sides for them. It will feel very strange not to be cooking up a storm but I'll appreciate not having all the "clean up and put away" chores afterward ;)
What a lovely post, both illustration and your wonderful message. How fortunate are your friends and family to be surrounded by such warmth and giving.
ReplyDeleteoh my lands... I was wanting to do this drawing, but couldn't see it.. you did a marvelous job, Betsy; and yes... you do have grandma's DNA... :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful cornucopia, Betsy - so wonderfully colorful (and I'm so glad you found a way to incorporate your signature birds!)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your Thanksgiving meal will be amazing :)
xo
Kristin
I so agree with you abou this holiday, Betsy. My fave too..though, admittendly, not as muc these days now over the last few years due to all the changes I've had to go through.
ReplyDeleteBut, as it is, this is a wonderful piece. one of your best I think. honestly, this MUST have taken you AGES and AGES! It's really detailed and has everything in it I would expect and some pleasant surprises too.
"I haven't drawn up the menu yet"
--but can;t you just use this for the cover then? :)
Do your triplets even eat the meal? I think they do the mash, right?
