I worked an auction this morning and snapped this picture as I drove back through the farms to the auction site. The weather forecast called for high 90's and high humidity. At 8:30 AM, the air was already looking hazy and thick. The hawk was a nice surprise when I downloaded my photos! With Mr. Hawk and the corn being as high as an elephant's eye, this photo reminded me of the movie Oklahoma. :) Even though summer still goes through most of September, Labor Day weekend seems like the end, doesn't it?
♥
Summer's end here is showing because the leaves are turning golden already. Your corn really is as high as an elephant's eye. I shall be singing all day now!
ReplyDeleteWe've had so little rain, the corn is turning brown, as with everything else.
ReplyDeleteThe photo looks so serene, rural America at it's best...
I hope the porta potty thing was not too bad ;)
~Jo
Jo ~ fortunately, we 3 girls that worked the auction slipped inside the house to go to the potty. :) Good thing, too, since I bet it was 130 degrees in that thing!
ReplyDeletehaha yes avoid the port a pottie at all cost
ReplyDeleteUnless all hope is lost..haha
And now you are rhyming too
What's got in to you..haha
That corn is very high though
Higher than our piles of snow
And Mr. Hawk knew it be a delight
So he came on by just to be polite
It's so sad to see summer coming to an end. :(
ReplyDeleteYour road looks very similar to the roads around here, and our corn is high as well! Love the hawk!
Pat ~
ReplyDeleteI blame you for the words
that rhyme on a dime
even when I don't try
they do and I sigh
and say, "Darn that Pat!
I know it's his fault and that cat!"
lol...
The lady that owned the house yelled at me for using the inside bathroom. But the house was empty and people were walking through to bid on furniture. It wasn't like it was a private home anymore. Geesh. She was cranky anyway. lol...
I look forward to fall...this heat is just unbearable today. Great picture...really captured the haze.
ReplyDeleteSo the Hawk was a "volunteer" to your photo... like it.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo! It's hot and humid here too. It sure does feel like the end of summer though.
ReplyDeletekarena ~ its horrible here..the humidity makes it hard to breathe!
ReplyDeleteChristine ~ yes, wasn't that nice of him to make lazy circles just for my drive by? :)
what a great shot and tyhe hawk an added bonus,, I agree, Labor day is the end of summer to me,
ReplyDeleteLooking at that photo, I can feel the heat! Now you have the beautiful fall to enjoy. Here we have just come into spring, with the beautiful, yellow Cootamundra Wattles dotting the countryside.
ReplyDeleteYes the seasons are so dear betsy, but I love autumn, here in the South hemisphere we wait for spring, I love spring and autumn!! have a nice weekend! gloria
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful picture and so is the one in your header. We are back up in the 90's...we have been so spoiled all summer long, I hate to complain. Maybe after another day of this!!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
hahaha you got yelled at for going to the loo
ReplyDeleteShame on you
I made you rhyme too
Love that I do
Christine ~ he looks like he's posing, doesn't he? :)
ReplyDeletePat ~
ReplyDeleterefused to go in the blue plastic loo
yep, I know you'd refuse, too!
I love to watch field like this in the fall. Its the best time to drive through the country side for the smells and colors
ReplyDeleteWonderful picture....love that Musical.
ReplyDeleteIt is a great capture of the hawk and the depth in this picture is remarkable as one's eye is lead back to the end of the road.
ReplyDeleteThanks, LD ~ you can really see the thick heavy heat, can't you? Same in the header picture. I wish it would leave!
ReplyDeleteSadly, it DOES feel like summer is over when Labor Day comes. =( But our temps have been a tad high to make us rethink that huh? Thanks again for sharing your life with us...you are a gem.
ReplyDeleteMarsha ~ I love fall and this summer has been so hot that I'm not sorry to see it go. I want a cool breeze and orange leaves! :)
ReplyDeleteYour title "Summer's End" sounds rather final and a little sad. It is coming to an end though the temperatures (52 days of 100+ temps and more to come here in Kansas) would not prove it. "Oklahoma", one of my favorite musicals--now I'll be humming songs from it all day. You have a "crazy" cat--quite the climber! Have a lovely weekend, Betsy. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteWhen we were kids Labor Day meant that it was time to change from our lighter colored purses and shoes to our dark colored ones according to our mom, but living in CA we tended to ignore that rule. And Easter meant the opposite. But our mom always followed those rules of changing the colors.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up in Illinois had her well trained. She eventually stopped doing that but it took about 30 years living here in SoCA and our lack of any real seasons.
It will be nice if the weather cools down to under 90 degrees, but most importantly for the humidity to go away. We are not used to so much humidity.
It must be wonderful to drive through fields of vegetables. We just have city after city after city. Too many people here.
God bless.
Yes, the days are noticeably shorter here, and there's the odd chilly reminder that Autumn is around the corner.
ReplyDeleteWeather wise, this is most likely the last mild weekend. Here in no uncertain terms there is change of seasons in the air.
ReplyDeleteLovely shot dear Betsy, enjoy your long weekend,
xoxo
Love the soaring hawk. They are so graceful in the air. Don't you wonder what it would be like to hold your arms out and soar like that? It looks like freedom. Enjoyed the corn, too! blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteSummer never even got going here. It's official, this has been the coldest summer for the last 18 years!
ReplyDeleteNobody I know had a barbeque this year. I never had a chance to wear a T-shirt and shorts.
All summer the garden centres near me have had barbies, patio furniture, hundreds of bags of unsold charcoal on "Special Offer" to tempt people into buying. Now most of it is 50% off, and still it's not going!
At least you had a summer in the colonies; I think I'll emigrate to California. . . .
Here in Greece the weather is still warm so summer isn't over!
ReplyDeleteOnly the calendar reminds me that fall has come!
Ps To say thank you for being my follower I have a suprize for you.

It feels like the end of summer here too, even though it is very hot. The coloring is different and the summer flowers are gone. And now I am singing Oklahoma too. (-:
ReplyDeleteKeith ~ well if you're going to come across the pond, at least show up in Ohio! :)
ReplyDeleteMrsU ~ I grew up several years in Illinois, too and that was the rule...white only between Easter and Labor Day!
ReplyDeleteThis so reminds me of the small town in Southern Illinois I've always called home. Sweet memories. :)
ReplyDeleteSummer's end is upon us too today as we bid a fond farewell to the pines and lake of the Adirondacks...a bit sad, but exciting to begin a new year!
ReplyDeletehot, humid and hazy up here on the north coast too!
ReplyDeletehappy labor day weekend!
technically speaking we still have two more weekends of summer! yeah!!
haha, i still suffer from that rule of when to wear white. mercy, they drill that into ya in illinois, don't they?
ReplyDeletethe hawk seems to know the photo is being taken, he sure does. and as a midwesterner, i can see the heat in this photo. there's a certain kind of humid heat in the morning that just alerts you it's going to be a rough and steamy day.
also, i use bathrooms all over. every once in a while there's a crank. as long as you all did your business, the crank can go off all they like:)
Ed ~ yep....Illinois..the fashion capitol or the world, right? Too funny. I think that rule has relaxed, along with most every other rule. haha.
ReplyDeleteDidn't realize you were a midwesterner, too! But at one time you lived by the ocean, so you've got me there. ha.
cranks? haha...love that.
ReplyDeleteLabor Day is a definite turning point, but I plan to enjoy that sweet corn for as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteWhere did summer go?? I am stopping over from Karen's BBQ - it is great to meet you! Love the pic & looking forward to stopping back. Enjoy the party! ~Tracy
ReplyDeleteHi Tracy Jo ~ thanks for stopping by! :)
ReplyDeleteYour corn looks so much better than our corn around here- the drought has been so bad, it's short and brown.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad to see summer go, but a little excited for cooler temps.
