The Beginning of Autumn

I was out and about today running errands and noticed some color change for the very first time. It was as if the trees knew that yesterday was the first day of autumn and overnight they started with the transformation. I snapped a few photos while driving, both eyes on the road of course! :) I wish I could have gotten all of that vintage car in the photo!

Is that a manatee? A baby seal? George Washington's wig?

After the rain in the night, the sky was a beautiful deep blue with few clouds. The soybeans are turning gold, too! Being born on the first day of autumn, Autumn could have easily been my name. I wonder if my parents ever considered it. And since it's my favorite season, how appropriate it would be! I like my name just fine. But Autumn Elizabeth would be pretty, too! I wonder if it would be crazy to put in for a name change at this late date. Mrs. U says I'm just wet behind the ears....just starting out!

  1. Love, love, love the colors of autumn (ours are a little more advanced than in your neck of the woods--the first official day of autumn is closer to the first day of winter up here!)

  2. Betsy, absolutely love your photography as well as your blog. You are an amazing woman! Do you work outside the home as far as making a living? Just curious since this blog and the kids and the Mister seem to take so much of your time, it's inspiring how you can juggle it all. Keep up the good work!

  3. Don ~ thanks so much. You always say the nicest things. :)

I run a little gift basket/cookie and cake baking business from my home. It is very small, though, and I only have an order or two per month. I also work a few times a month for an estate auctioneer. Most of my time is spent at home, though..managing the men and pets. :)

Great shots of Autumn around your hometown, leaves are changing here too, lots have fallen on the ground already due to the lack of rain for almost six weeks.
    Enjoy 'our' season :)

  8. Perfect Jo..love your name! After all of that rain in the spring, who would have believed we would get so dry later! We have a tree like that, too. Unfortunately, it's the one that blocks my view of Mr. Neighbor Man from my kitchen sink. lol....

  9. The leaves already started turning in my area, but it seems to be a more gradual progression.

My friend Jennifer's daughter is an Elizabeth, too, but not an Autumn. Her name is Elizabeth Amber Lambert. I always thought that sounded musical. In fact, I wrote a children's song for her when she was about seven years old.

  13. Still green in the city
Of course most of it is fake crap, what a pity
I'd go with the wig for the cloud
    Makes it look more proud
    Snapping while driving too
With two eyes on the road, that be tough to do
    Autumn is a great time
Would work as a name chime
Although it leads into a big crime
Hate the snow and that is the end of this rhyme

  23. Hi Betsy - Autumn is certainly a welcome change after our hottest driest summer ever.
so refreshing! I have not been out much to see if trees are starting to change color, I am afraid many OK trees just turned brown and died over the summer though.

and belated happy birthday wishes to you. 50 is a piece of cake!

I think changing your name would be cool! I mean if you like the name, "
"Autumn"...go for it. Never too late!

  33. Hi Betsy .. love the photos - and the golden colours are here too - but the leaves have been curling for ages from lack of rain. I don't think I've ever seen soya beans growing - I'm sure that's not a claim to fame - but should be in my eyes!!

Enjoy the autumn colours and your birthday watch!! Cheers - Hilary

  34. If you like the name Autumn, go for it! Could always adopt it as a nickname. And when you publish a coffee table book of some of your best photographs, you can byline it with your new name. Why not?

  35. Happy Fall Betsy! Autumn is my favorite season too...and knowing today is the first official day makes me want to run out to buy a couple of pumpkins to put on my porch and whip up something pumpkin in the kitchen. Thanks for sharing your lovely photos - have a great weekend Friend.

  37. There are trees here with just a part gone gold - so pretty. Oh dear, is it really autumn now?

  38. Autumn would be a great season if we had any true seasons. We are going to be over 97 degrees all next week. I would love to cool down.

I cannot remember what I was watching a few weeks ago, but they were talking to one daughter and there are four total. One named Autumn, and the others are Wynter, Summer, and Spring. I guess it was a good thing they had four girls, I wonder what they would have named the children if they were boys, names of cars would probably be the logical ones. Let me see Mustang, Ford, Lincoln, Audi, to name a few. Anyway the girls were very pretty and accomplished, so maybe their names helped them, with having a season named after you, how could you go wrong.

Thank you for sharing your autumn with us.

    God bless.
