Sunset

sunset August 2011
“Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of a sunset. Sunsets are quite old fashioned. To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament. Upon the other hand they go on.”
Oscar Wilde
Irish Poet, Novelist, Dramatist and Critic, 1854-1900

  2. Nice just looks like it's creeping away
    Into night from day
With the clouds covering it's escape
As they shield the brightness like a drape
    Sounds quite blah your cold
    Hopefully it soon becomes old
    And goes bye bye
    Up into that cloudy sky

  3. As an English Lit major, Oscar Wilde was one of my favorite writers. He was brilliant, witty, sarcastic, observant.

    Nice post Bets.

  4. Pat ~ That wasn't just a little rhyme there
    but a poem did appear!
Yes, hope my cold floats away
in the clouds tomorrow or today!
As I laid on the couch with chills
I was told I was pale. Oh thrills.
    lol...

    SKY DITTY

    Sky above and earth below—
    Onward on my way I go;
    Earth below and sky above—
    I am satisfied, my love.

  15. Well, I guess none of us have any culture and we are all old fashioned. So be it--I wouldn't have it any other way. Lovely sky. Have a great weekend with your 5 guys. Mickie :)

  20. So beautiful...and I'm a sky noticer (Is that a word?) because the "heavens declare the glory of God, the sky proclaims the work of His hands" great shot!

  21. Looks unusual but incredible altogether!

Was thinking how to describe this, but "unzipping sky" (mentioned in first comment), is definitely what this is!

  22. I admire sunsets... I guess I'm provincial, and that's ok with me. In fact I have a photo of a sunset on my page too! Must be the season for them, although actually I took the photo many years ago over the lake behind our house. I love your photo, it's like you could just peek inside at heaven!

  25. Ah a beautiful sunset as Brian said zipping open the beauty above for all who care to see. We rarely see such beauty due to the lack of clouds. You are blessed to have the clouds, but mostly you are blessed with the ability to recognize the beauty all around you. What a great gift.

    Thank for sharing.

    God bless.

  27. I love sunsets! I try to watch mine everyday out on the river. Great time to reflex and send bad thoughts away with the sun.

  30. I love the sky and capturing it in stills too Betsy. It's like an everyday occurance for me to say to my kids whilst driving in the car "Wow, look at the sky, doesn't it look beautiful" or "How amazing are those clouds".... for me, gazing upon beautiful skies is some how life affirming!
