“Nobody of any real culture, for instance, ever talks nowadays about the beauty of a sunset. Sunsets are quite old fashioned. To admire them is a distinct sign of provincialism of temperament. Upon the other hand they go on.”
Oscar Wilde
Irish Poet, Novelist, Dramatist and Critic, 1854-1900

it looks like someone is unzipping the sky...cool capture betsy...
ReplyDeleteNice just looks like it's creeping away
ReplyDeleteInto night from day
With the clouds covering it's escape
As they shield the brightness like a drape
Sounds quite blah your cold
Hopefully it soon becomes old
And goes bye bye
Up into that cloudy sky
As an English Lit major, Oscar Wilde was one of my favorite writers. He was brilliant, witty, sarcastic, observant.
ReplyDeleteNice post Bets.
Pat ~ That wasn't just a little rhyme there
ReplyDeletebut a poem did appear!
Yes, hope my cold floats away
in the clouds tomorrow or today!
As I laid on the couch with chills
I was told I was pale. Oh thrills.
lol...
He was wrong...guess he didn't know any women bloggers who are the smartest women of all time! LOL
ReplyDeleteCali ~
ReplyDeletebrilliant, witty, sarcastic, observant.
What a great combination of traits! I enjoy him, too!
Julie ~ well, I guess he never met me...I'm always looking at the sky! ha.

Thanks, MM Teacher! And a nice little ditty, too. Hey, you should visit Pat if you like rhymes! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is a great sunset shot. I've been away for a few days and just catching up; do hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteOh Betsy ~~that is totally awesome. I've never seen a sunset quite like that. What a great capture.
ReplyDeleteLoved the quote too.
Well, I guess none of us have any culture and we are all old fashioned. So be it--I wouldn't have it any other way. Lovely sky. Have a great weekend with your 5 guys. Mickie :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great capture -you were there at the right moment!
ReplyDeleteOh, I think Oscar got it wrong, people still talk about sunsets today.;) This one is a beautiful one dear Betsy.;) Have a lovely Friday,
ReplyDeletexoxo
Zuzana ~ well, I talk about them all the time...as you know! ha.
ReplyDeleteMichie ~ I'd rather be old fashioned anyway! :)
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful...and I'm a sky noticer (Is that a word?) because the "heavens declare the glory of God, the sky proclaims the work of His hands" great shot!
ReplyDeleteLooks unusual but incredible altogether!
ReplyDeleteWas thinking how to describe this, but "unzipping sky" (mentioned in first comment), is definitely what this is!
I admire sunsets... I guess I'm provincial, and that's ok with me. In fact I have a photo of a sunset on my page too! Must be the season for them, although actually I took the photo many years ago over the lake behind our house. I love your photo, it's like you could just peek inside at heaven!
ReplyDeletebeautiful... so cool how a quote (of such a witty and sarcastic soul) from so long ago is still appropriate today... {smiles} tanna
ReplyDeletethe scene is so serene :)
ReplyDeleteWatching sunset makes u feel peace !!
Simply beautiful
Ah a beautiful sunset as Brian said zipping open the beauty above for all who care to see. We rarely see such beauty due to the lack of clouds. You are blessed to have the clouds, but mostly you are blessed with the ability to recognize the beauty all around you. What a great gift.
ReplyDeleteThank for sharing.
God bless.
Love it. Like Brian's comment above.
ReplyDeleteI love sunsets! I try to watch mine everyday out on the river. Great time to reflex and send bad thoughts away with the sun.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteA friend who happened to be driving on the highway close to our house called last night to tell us there was a fabulous sunset ......I missed it but will be waiting for it tonight!
it is such a magical shot!!! i so love sunsets..old fashioned I am!
ReplyDeleteNice scene.
ReplyDeleteRegards!
I love the sky and capturing it in stills too Betsy. It's like an everyday occurance for me to say to my kids whilst driving in the car "Wow, look at the sky, doesn't it look beautiful" or "How amazing are those clouds".... for me, gazing upon beautiful skies is some how life affirming!
