Random Thoughts

Fourth of July Blueberry Pie
It was divine, by the way. And I confess that this
piece I ate for breakfast, with ice cream.
It was a holiday, after all. :)
  1. I'm a pie crust snob. It has to be from scratch! And it has to be made with real butter. None of that ready-to-use kind from a box. I tried it once and thought it was too thin, too salty and lacked that real butter taste. It literally takes all of 2 minutes to make it from scratch with a food processor. This recipe is one I've used for years. I know not everybody agrees, and that's alright. You'll never have to worry about me clearing out the boxed pie crust at the grocery, like I've been accused of doing with yogurt. :)
  2. With the mosquitoes so large and thick, and since they love me so much, I've had to coat myself with Off if I want to be outside. Wouldn't you know that I found myself awake in the night scratching the bottom of my foot? Right on the arch. Yep, they found the one place I didn't spray. Good grief!
  3. Taylor has a new girlfriend. He's broken away from 'his type' of petite, cute, brunette with long hair, to a petite, cute, redhead with long hair! :) Remember that May Term Statistics Class? Yep, she was in that class, too. They "studied together". I guess they really did study since he got those good grades! :)
  4. Cedarville is the birthplace of the founder of Labor Day. Therefore, we have fireworks and a parade on that holiday instead of July 4th. We can still hear the booms and sometimes see the lights from varying nearby cities and villages for this holiday, though.
  5. We're getting a good, soaking rain here just about every other day, alternating with sunshine. Nothing makes a garden grow better than that! Actually, my zucchini and cucumber plants are so huge and full of blossoms, that I'm a little worried I won't be able to keep up once their fruit starts growing. Or should I say veggies start growing?
  6. You can be sure that if you leave the cushions out on the patio furniture that a sudden, unexpected down pouring of rain will soak them. :)
  7. I don't really get holidays, like most moms. We make the holidays happen, right? But I did give myself a little treat this weekend by calling off all housework that wasn't absolutely necessary. I'll have to play catch-up tomorrow but it was worth it.
  8. And just as Murphy's Law would have it, if you paint your fingernails on a whim during the middle of the day, all kinds of things will happen that require you to use your hands. The phone will ring, a child will need help with the DVD player, another will need a shoe tied, and you will have to go to the bathroom really bad. LOL!!!

Just sayin'!

  2. I added the photos just for you
but added other words to soothe your ocd crew
Is it just too far north for mosquitos at all
or do you have them out in the country in Nova Scotia?
Yes, I'd think the redhead would be quite distracting
I can tell he likes her by how he's acting.
    ha.

  14. Pie for breakfast is the best holiday treat EVER. Mosquitoes love me too. I've seen the non-greasy bug spray ad. I'm curious. I'm used to being a greasy, smelly bug sprayed person all summer. :)

  15. Thanks for the recipe...close to mine. I don't have a food processor, think my old fashioned pastry blender will work?

  31. I have never made a pie crust from scratch. I'm afraid too! Its funny how some people are more attractive to the bugs than others! I was at a BBQ with a friend and she was all bit up but I didn't have one bite.

    Happy 4th!

  37. About your fridge door always being left open. I had the same problem because I sometimes forgot to close it properly so I put a strip of wood under the front feet to tilt it slightly back. Now when I open it to get some out and walk away it gently closes to and then snaps shut as the magnetic strip kicks in.

Of course this only works if you don't open the door more than about 80 degrees!

  38. I love the randomness of your random...ness. :)
