Kitten Update

Meet Dad. I've only seen him around a few times. The first time was
last fall. He was following Mama around like he thought she was cute.
He wasn't an obnoxious tom cat like I expected, though. He was
very sweet and gentle to Mama and just laid there watching her eat.
Once, when he moved slowly in for a bite she batted him on the nose
and he backed off. LOL. She is eating for 5 after all!
You can see where the kittens get their white paws and markings!
Marmalade. Tiger.
Mustache.
Whiskers.
Family meeting. They look like they got in trouble!
Uh Oh, are they in time out?
Dinner is served.
Whiskers stayed with Mom on the porch while I sat and watched
through the screen door. He did run a few times but came
back to finish eating. He looked scared but a little
curious this time, too.
And Mama Cat will come when I call her.
All five are eating kitten chow but I see her bring in a catch several
times a day. Fresh meat must taste better then dry cat food. ha.

  1. I think Whiskers is my favorite, so far anyway.

  2. Well, of course you do...look at those silver whiskers! Oh, and I see someone finally got you in a straight jacket! lol.

  3. Plus, Whiskers looks to be solid black at first glance, until you look down. :)

I blame Orson for that photo... and you can interpret "I blame Orson" any way you like!

  4. Orson put you in that jacket? haha....did he pad the walls of your rooms, too? :)

  5. He's spoiled. He wants to maintain control of my blog.

  6. I don't think there can be too many kittens on the internet. Thanks Betsy and Happy Memorial Day.

  7. awww these are such cute pics betsy...big smiles...

  8. Oh my goodness, they just keep getting cuter!

  9. Kitten envy! And I am allergic. I also can't find the time to sweep the Cheerios up off the floor let alone cat hair. That's how cute kittens are.

  10. baby marmalade can come live at my house!! just sayin'
they are so darn cute..oh my.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ha - they do look as thought they're on the 'naughty step'. Tiger has stolen my heart. Your first picture reminds me of this video.

  12. If marmalade only knew how many homes want her!

    ReplyDelete
  13. They are really making themselves quite at home
Pretty soon they'll no longer roam
    And you'll have cats galore
At your feet when you walk out the back door
    Making for quite the zoo
    Especailly with a raccoon too
Always fun to see the kitty updates
Although in a year or two they could multiply at alarming rates..lol

  14. They are so cute. I'm leaning toward Mustache being my favorite. But I can say that since I'm admiring them from afar. My puppies wouldn't want me conspiring with the "enemy". :)

  15. darling kitties- I love Marmalade!

  16. TOO CUTE!

Remember, naming a kitten is just the first step toward owning a kitten...

    ReplyDelete
  17. multiply at an alarming rate...oh dear...then I hope they find somewhere else to go!

  18. Magpie ~ Nugget is no fan, either!

  19. jennyfreckles...that video was hilarious! thanks for sending the link!

  20. Well, I guess your family has just increased whether you like it or not.

Be good to them, and they will pay you back a hundredfold.

  21. Oh they are all precious, but that little orange one reminds me so much of a cat had years ago names Rustina...She was Rusy until she had a litter of kittens, thus the name change. We had her for years, and she was my dearest's favorite.

  22. How cute, Betsy! I love Mustache and Marmalade...so cute! They have names...so does this mean they are staying? My cat Kitty was never named so that she wouldn't stay...and that was 11 years ago! lol lol Happy holiday weekend!...hugs...Debbie

    ReplyDelete
  23. Debbie ~ I only named them to be able to talk about them and distinguish between the 4. I'd be surprised if they all stayed. ha.

  24. I dunno, they look very comfy at your place I think you just added to your family.

  25. I'm missing my sweet kitty now. He died a few years ago.

    Those kittens are just adorable!

    ReplyDelete
  26. sprinkles ~ awww...my two cats have been gone several years now, too!

  27. I think your kitten photos are fabulous, Betsy ... the kitties are adorable. We've got two lovely ginger and white cats - they're sisters, but they don't particularly like each other ... they just about tolerate each other.

  28. Lovely cats....
    Thanks !
    Greetings from France,

    Pierre

  29. They are all adorable, but I hope you will take them to a vet and get them spayed/neutered.
As you yourself noted, they will keep multiplying, and while cats eat vermin, they also kill and eat birds and other wildlife.

    ReplyDelete
  30. anonymous ~ well, thanks for your concern. But these are wild cats. Mama won't let me touch her or her kittens. I take these photos through my back door with a zoom lens. If you're offering to pay the estimated $2000 vet expense for 6 cats to be spayed, neutered, shots and exams...and to risk life and limb in catching them (mom and dad are wild hunters with claws and teeth!) not to mention a lovely ride to the vet and back....I might consider it. lol.

I feel I'm doing a good deed by helping out the mom feed 4 babies when she's so very thin and 30 days of rain was obviously hampering her ability to catch enough food just to provide milk for 4 hungry kittens. I'm happy she chose our yard to call home for as long as she wants.

Don't get me wrong...I do believe it having your pets spayed and neutered, as I have done with my own cats and rabbit, but I don't feel a responsibility to catch and 'fix' every stray animal I see.

Yes, they eat wildlife...that's how God created them!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well said Betsy! (smile)

The kittens are looking so adorable at this stage, I lurve it!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Chacha ~ well, thank you dear. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. "Yes, they eat wildlife...that's how God created them!" Well, maybe so, but if you rounded them all up and had a long talk with them, they might stop. You should try it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Silver ~ lol....who do you think I am, Grizzly Adams?

    ReplyDelete
  35. No... You could never grow the beard, for one thing. But you're so cheerful and optimistic, who knows if it would work? Especially since you'd be saying it directly to them, so they'd know exactly where the advice came from? :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, I love YOUR optimism there, but I can't even get the mom to let me pet her...even when I use my sweetest, nicest voice. ha. But if the time ever comes that I think I can lead one of those family meetings, I'll lecture them on their injustice to the avian community! ha.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Maybe I can talk Orson into taking a ride out there to talk to them for you! Of course, he might want to bring them all back to Massachusetts so he can recruit them for his "cause"!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh now wouldn't that be a sight
Orson holding a stray neighborhood cat meeting.
I bet he'd serve rotisserie chicken, too.
I wouldn't mind him taking them all back to your place. At least I'd know they were well cared for.
Then you could pay their vet bills and make anonymous happy. haha.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Me? Ha! I'd make them all get jobs and pay their own medical bills!

Or maybe Orson could have them enlist in his underground Cat Army, and they could all get free treatment on some kind of G.I. arrangement.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Is Orson going to make them all little melon skin helmets like that kitty on your blog post? They were really cute. ha.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Maybe I should stock up on melons, so... HEY! What am I saying?!? I don't want to encourage this revolution!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm sure Orson has put in an online purchase of melon helmets some time while you were napping.:)

    ReplyDelete
  43. I should check my debit card statements more carefully...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Orson will have to recruit Orlin, Cassie and all of their 14 cousins back home at grammas house! Wow..with the 6 strays here, you've already got an army forming!

    ReplyDelete
  45. tell me you are going to keep one or two ...girls!! they are all so cute and you are so sweet to care for them

    ReplyDelete
  46. ELK ~ you like the redhead, right? :)

You know, I don't even know the sex of the kittens!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi! Betsy...
The cats are all cute! By the way, their name match their appearance perfectly!
Thanks, for sharing the pix Of that tom cat too!
