UFO ~ Unidentified Frozen Object

I cleaned out the little freezer attached to the refrigerator
the other day. Most things just needed to be straightened
and organized. And most things were easy to identify.
I have to admit that I don't label anything. I always
think that I'll remember and that the things will be
used up before I would have time to forget.
Most things were easy to identify, like pecans....

and blackberries.

But this one had me stumped!
What was it? How long had it been there?
Was it raw or cooked? Chicken or dough?
Since I couldn't answer any of the above questions
with any amount of certainty, it went into the trash.
Maybe I'll start labeling. :)
I'm also amused at how old ice cubes evaporate to mere
wisps of their formal selves...looking very unappetizing.
They were thrown out, too! ha.

  1. I have some UFO's in my freezer too... I never label either.

  2. With all those men in the house, I'm surprised anything ever reaches the unidentified stage!

  3. Hard to believe, isn't it? It must have not been identifiable to them from the very beginning! ha.

  4. Looks like something from Jeffrey Dahmer's freezer! Brrrr-rrr-rrr indeed!

  5. Silver ~ Ew. I assure it was edible at one time. And not human, ever. lol.

  6. looks kinda like chicken...smiles. yeah things change when left too long....

  7. Just checkin'. Some of the collectibles in my home have a pretty checkered past... but no body parts.

  8. Silver ~ are you calling yourself a collectible? (ducks)

  9. My mom was losing her ability to function her last two or three years. After she died I emptied out things that were so old. Ham from my Dad's funeral eight years before then. I closed my eyes and saved nothing. I have premium red raspberries that I am going to have to throw away. I hate that when I do that.

  10. 8 year old ham...oh yea...that's past it's prime I'd say! :) My m.i.l. was like that...she had things in her freezer that were older than me! lol.

  11. Oh Betsy, I love it!!! We ARE all alike!!! I usually have a lot more than 1 or 2 unidentified things in my freezer. I do feel a little wasteful and guilty when I throw things out, but better that than "dying" from them. Have a nice weekend. Mickie

  12. How interesting that you freeze pecans, I never thought about freezing any kind of nuts.;))
I was hoping to get an identification of the third package but I guess we will never now now.;))
This reminds me of all the UFO's in my freezer - and believe me there is more than one, time to clean out.;)
    xoxo

  13. Yes I have found mystery packages like that as well. Quite upsetting! Cause you know it was important at the time! Ha!!

  14. forgetmenot ~ well I haven't cleaned out the big freezer yet. Who knows what is in that one! ha.

  15. Zuzana ~ I buy the pecans in bulk and store them in the freezer. They stay fresh longer that way...obviously. :)

  16. Good for you Betsy! When the weather breaks I need to do a THAWING out of my deep freeze in the garage! There are ICE BERGS in there!

I cannot stand old ice cubes. I get laughed at OFTEN when I toss all the ice cubes on the back patio (the Retrievers THINK they are treats!) as they DO get stale!

    Happy Friday to you!

  17. Been there done that! I usually label but sometimes the words smear and the ice has crusted around the item. Best to throw it out! :-)

  18. :)
Maybe I should clean out my freezers.

The cabinets at my mom's house have some rather shady looking jars of who-knows-what in them. They will soon be taking a trip too, just as soon as I find the time to get back over there for some cleaning.

  19. It's not Silver Fox is it? (Where the heck has he gone to?)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Alan ~ LOL!!!! Um, no. I have no fox meat in my freezer of any kind. haha. Oh, you are hilarious!

  21. Haha, we have the same type of stuff in our freezer (and fridge?) too.

Yeah, and maybe I will too. LOL! Love it. My freezer looks just the same!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I don't label either....with 2 freezers, do you think I know what it all is????? lol

  24. A wise decision LOL
    Poor trash bin!!
    It looked awful!!

  25. That looks really blah, made be go gah.
There now that the noises are out of the way, how was your day?
I'd throw that stuff out real fast too, as it shouldn't be eaten by me or you.
For it make you sick and could make you poop a brick.
It's good that it wasn't human ever or you may go to jail forever.
That wouldn't be fun, as no more shiny sun.
Did you recycle for the planet, or just bury it in granite?
The second prob be best, as you wouldn't want the trash stinkying up your vest.
Yes I rhyme better than the rest now I'm off at your behest.
Oh and I did answer your cat name question, prob even gave a suggestion.

  26. You won, best title of the week!

  27. I remember working in a decorating shop and we had a fridge..there came a time that something had been kept so long that none of us could even identify the container!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Christine ~ lol...had to laugh when the idea came to me! :)

  29. Mmmmm...pecans :P Not sure about tha' third...um...whatever (!) I mainly vacuum seal stuff but still dinna label anything, meself...

And unless your freezer goes down to "absolute zero", you'll always have "disappearing ice", ahem...yes.

  30. I totally have UFO's in my freezer. What's life without a little mystery?!

  31. Subby ~ leave it to you to know all about frozen foods! :) Show off! ha.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think I have some things in my freezer that resemble your UFO.

The bottom drawer of my freezer is filled with hard candy of all sorts. We pull it out year after year to use when we make our annual graham cracker gingerbread houses. Every year we buy new candy too. We warn the kids to "eat this...not that!"

  33. Based on the looks of my unidentified freezer objects, I'm gonna guess that it was a banana. :) A just-past-its-prime banana tossed in the freezer to be blended into a smoothie at a later date. :) Just think of the banana bread you could have made.

  34. Subby ~ −459.67°F ?? Now THAT is cold! :)

  35. Betsy, after reading tha' it looked much warmer...on th' "Kelvin Scale", wot? Heh, heh...seriously tho', if I canna I.D. it, out to th' dust bin it goes :[ Fortunately I don't hae to do tha' so muckle...er much...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yes that UFO looks distinctly alien. Yuk. Wise move there, I'm afraid. Same with the cubes too.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mmm...you'll have to scroll down a bit to find this; but Bugs' "carrot habit" was pure satire parody based on a Clark Gable scene in "It Happened One Night"(1934)...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Subby ~ oh that was an interesting read! Squadron mascot...who knew? ha. Thanks dear, for including this. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Betsy, you are most welcome :)

    HUGS!

  40. Now curiosity would have gotten the best of me and I would have waited until it thawed to see what it was! I use a sharpie and mark on all my bags.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I just got a new refrigerator, and I had the same lamentation. Only, my problem was in some sort of fossilized creature who had slipped behind a drawer and mutated into a gargoyle or something.

I have NO CLUE what it was.

I found you from "Vista Woman". I'm so glad I did. It's nice to see a kindred soul out there.

  42. As a mom of five boys I have always been very cautious when going through the freezer...I have had action figures frozen in ice, and for our home school science, yes, a baby pig..now that one gets you when you pull it out...and other things.
Labeling would be nice, but my boys don't warn me.
Good luck on labeling in the future.
