- Robins. They're in my yard, eating the crab apples and looking at the snow! ha. Are they lost or are they here to proclaim that spring will be here soon? I was amused at this one in particular who wedged her large body into a tiny sparrow's nest. Kind of reminded me of the ugly step sisters wedging their big toe into Cinderella's glass slipper! lol. Not that robins are ugly, but it was just a funny sight.
- We had a whole week without snow days or delays.
- I'm working on a big project for the triplets that involves their bedroom with some fresh ideas and upgrades. More to come later in a "before-and-after" post. I'm excited and they will be thrilled! :)
- When I picked up the triplets from their special needs class at church Sunday morning, I said "Hi" to a little 13 year old girl with Down's Syndrome. She looked at me and said, "Hello, Gorgeous!" ha ha. Now that made my day! What a sweetheart she is.
- Cookie and gift basket orders just when I needed a little extra money for something special.
- I saw the bottom of the hamper twice, if only briefly!
- The smell of cinnamon-raisin bagels in the toaster.
- The NASCAR season has begun. :)
- Temperatures are 50 degrees warmer than just 7 days ago!
- Friends that text and say "want to have lunch?" :)
In a weird kind of coincidence, last week I had 3 people email me about my "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" posts. Two people said that they loved them and wanted me to post one soon. The third person said they liked these "Happy Thoughts" better because the other kind was "whiny". I didn't actually replace one with the other but had intended on doing each as a running series off and on.
So what do you think? The purpose of the good/bad/ugly is to be transparent about the crazy and even bad things that happen here. Many things have to do with autism and some just have to do with the ups and downs of life in a large family. I certainly don't want to give the impression that everything is always wonderful. I like to share the craziness, see the humor in it, and invite you to laugh with me! Let me know your thoughts! If you think they are whiny and like the 'happy thoughts' better, I want to know! LOL.
And Happy Valentine's Day!
You know I love you all, right? :)
♥
*tosses in two cents*
ReplyDeleteI like the good, the bad and the ugly because you tell it with such a humorous manner. Happy thoughts are good too, but we all have tough parts of life, and I think it's more honest to express that.
*hugs*
Oh Betsy, I want you to continue to do BOTH. It IS real. Life can be tough and I think the "ugly" is NOT whiny but simply REALITY!
ReplyDeleteEvery day cannot be cute, entertaining and wonderful! We all KNOW that!
Do both!
Re:
ReplyDelete#4. That's too priceless!
#6/7. I suppose smelling bagels is much better than smelling the bottom of the hamper!
As for your "G, B & E" posts, they're not "whiny" at all. Your blog shows you as being one of those "glass half full" people, one who fits a lot of those cliches about optimistic types ("making lemonade from lemons," etc.), and you may recall that I myself have described you as someone who surfs above the waves instead of drowning beneath them. But "whiny?" The G/B/E posts just show that all is far from perfect in Betsy's little world, but you manage to laugh and carry on. Beats the hell out of the alternatives, dunnit?
And the "Happy Thoughts" posts are cool and in character, of course... but I think I prefer the things that show that you have problems, too. You're just better than most at facing them and dealing with them.
Well... you asked, doll!
[Silver Fox steps off soapbox, bows, and leaves the blog
One of the things that drew me to your blog in the first place is that you post so authentically. Yes, you share the tough bits - always with humour - and you have a gift for seeing the fun and beauty in ordinary things. As far as I'm concerned you needn't change a thing. Lots of love and hugs to you too. xx
ReplyDeletelol Silver...you can get off the soapbox only after a hug and kiss from me....
ReplyDeleteYou mean, right here, in front of everybody? [blushes] Oh, gee, we're gonna start those stupid rumors again if we're not careful...!!!
ReplyDeletelol...you? blush? Is that even possible?
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the reasons Zorro wears a mask and a cape! To cover his blushing face.
ReplyDeleteOh, I haven't seen a robin yet this season...but I can't wait! Winter is getting so OLD.
ReplyDeleteMarlene ~ our snow is melting today! Those robins will be digging in the ground this time tomorrow! It's too early for spring here, though. I'm sure we will have more snow! This is just a tease! ha.
ReplyDeleteI like how you can find positive even in the "ugly", so I'd vote for "GB&U" posts. On the other hand, it's nice to read your happy thoughts. So just keep it ALL coming! Happy spring to you.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all your followers.
ReplyDeleteKept it real and show us how to look at the half full glass.
I'm adding my vote to doing both. Each have their own uniqueness, and I love hearing your GB&U, cause you know how to share it with honesty and humor. Something we all need.
ReplyDeleteSilver Fox is a hoot.... His comments are a fun addition to your wonderful posts.
you are a nascar fan too? ok, who?
ReplyDeletei like the good the bad the ugly...just saying...
Brian ~ you? nascar? I thought I was the only one in blog land! lol. Jeff Gordon...since 1993. How about you?
ReplyDeleteWanda ~ Silver Fox adds his own little spice, doesn't he? I should list him as a co-author. haha.
ReplyDeleteI am happy whatever you decide to do, I like it all! :-)
ReplyDeleteMmmm, cinammon raisin bagels and lunch with friends - 2 of my faves. Personally I love good, bad, and ugly posts, I think they are fun. Whiny never crossed my mind. Can't wait to see "before and after pics" another thing I love :)
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend was great!
I love it when you list your happy thoughts .I listed happy smiley things this week.God bless you,Besty.
ReplyDeleteBirdie, your opinion is more than a couple of pennies to me, dear! :)
ReplyDeleteI think you should keep it all. You give us a peek into your life with such humor and grace. So...your life is not perfect and I enjoy hearing how you deal with it. Kudos to you.
ReplyDeleteFarmchick ~ thank you. I appreciate that very much!
ReplyDeleteI love "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." I don't want to be the only one who whines. ;)
ReplyDeleteTruthfully, I like both. Everyone needs to laugh at life and you are a good example of how to do that. Thank you.
Up to know I have been a lot grumpy but your happy thoughts did cheer me a lot. Thanks for sharing and I am almost smiling.
ReplyDeleteMartha ~ lol...well, how could I leave you alone? We could start a "Whining Wednesday" haha!
ReplyDeleteNah, maybe we'd better not...
ReplyDeleteloved all of this, my friend

Happy Valentine's Day beautiful Betsy!
ReplyDeleteI don't think your the good, the bad and the ugly posts are whiny one single bit. You are just telling it like it is. Please don't stop. I love getting glimpses into your life both good and bad.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines with your 5 men!
I like reading all your posts.
ReplyDeleteEach & Everyone 8-)
Thank You for sharing
with us your life with your Five Men.
Mommy 2
Last year a robin made a nest right outside of my kitchen window--it was such fun being "that" close and watching the whole process from nest building to fledglings learning to fly. Love all your "random" thoughts. Happy Valentine's Day. Mickie
ReplyDeleteDear Betsy, I do not care what you call your posts - both the GB&U and Happy Thoughts are my favorite posts of yours, as they come across as very personal and candid.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Valentines Day, "gorgeous".;))
xoxo
I enjoy "real" post... whether happy or sad or anything in between... Be yourself. Happy Valentine's Day, Betsy!
ReplyDeleteI love that you have robins already! Now that is something to get excited about! I really enjoy your happy thoughts...they make me think of similar things in my life to be thankful for. You NEVER sounded whiney to me in your other posts, in fact it was the opposite. You gave us a glimpse into what is your reality...one that is unique and very different than mine, but also filled with humor and love! A post doesn't get much better than that!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines Day!
I love the good, the bad and the ugly......love it! It's real with a chuckle.
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day (gorgeous)
Your blog . . write what you like. I think it's just fine. Actually I find your accounts of living with Autism very interesting. Hard yakka I know but still, a look inside someone else's life is always fascinating.
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the robin in the nest looking for a few morsels is delightful. I have noticed a lot of activity around our bushes as well, looking for scrumptious bits of sustenance.
ReplyDeleteI love your robin. She is sitting pretty in the little nest : )
ReplyDeleteThe 'hello gorgeous' reminds me of a toy the grandkids got from a McDonald's Happy Meal. It was Alvin from Alvin & the Chipmunks. It just keeps saying 'Heeelllo Gorgeous!' over and over : )
No way, dude! NASCAR? Whoa, that is like, so like me! Dumbfounded here. Keep it rockin' Betsy. LOL.
ReplyDeleteYeah, umm, isn't that the sport with those little shuttle thingies one bounces around all over the palce? I' pretty good at that actually.
Speakin gof bouncy-- yes, i like your happy thoughts, but you know they would not be anything near as meaningful without your GB & U posts. Those are my favourite actually. It grounds you in reality--and I like how it shows who your ability to try to not stay flattened by such very real huge trials you face daily i suspect. If you didn't have these posts I would think life was just too easy for you that no wonder why you can be half full! This shows it all, in a most gracious of ways. Admirable indeed and, no, ot whiny one bit! I'm actually surprised any friends would ever think that. Huh?
Anyway, I did also want to say i am so with Wanda, SF is a hoot. Gosh, i'm blushing now too. hahahhaha.
Mmm ~ you mean shuffleboard? haha...oh dear, that's pathetic. :) No, nascar is just a wee bit faster than that. lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words about my posts, Mmm. I did know that the GBU were your favorites. It is all about being open and real...a balance.
And you are blushing for SF? haha. Well I am giving out hugs and kisses today...especially for sweet comments. :) It is valentine's day afterall. xo
Betsy, you never come across as whiny to me. I think the posts where you talk about the challenges you are facing are the most poignant. Keep doing what you are doing.
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks, Yuji! I need to come over to your blog for a visit and see what your little guy has been up to! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking I love just what you write from the heart...the good bad and ugly is real. Real life...the real deal....and the way you use humor to present it helps me learn to laugh at my own upsetting realities in my life...that's a nice thing you've done for me by sharing it humorously. I thank you for your candidness and your humor.
ReplyDeleteI've never thought of it as whiny!
Happy Valentine's Day Betsy!
Thanks, Maggie...you are SO sweet to say that! xo
ReplyDeletewill the Triplets room makeover have anything to do with trains?
ReplyDeletethe new girl in SS sounds lovely, and she is right, you are gorgeous inside and out.
and I never never thought you sounded like you were whining. I just laughed and groaned along your GBU posts.
call them whatever you want, just please keep blogging.
i love everything you write friend and you should include what is meaningful to you..it is your space ..your record of life! happy heart day .. all year !!
ReplyDeleteI love to read your blog including the good, bag and the ugly. I vote you don't change a thing! Also you never ever come across as whiney to me. Kathleen.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful spirit you are. I also visit Alan's blog. Cletis from Ky.
ReplyDeleteCletis ~ aww, thank you! Alan is the best, isn't he? Thanks for the visit and kind words. KY...not too far away from this Ohio girl!
