Dessert

Like cherries sprinkled with confectioner's sugar, right? From my desk I watched half a dozen Robins swooped in to eat some crab apples. This one had a hard time navigating around the stems! He wrestled with those things for the longest time!
Robins don't eat seed, so I'm glad we had all that fruit on the trees!
But it made me hungry for cherry pie!

Had to settle for blackberry crisp. Yum.
~Recipe~
1.5 c sugar, 1.25 c flour and 10 T cold butter.
Pulse in food processor until it resembles crumbs.
In greased 8x8 pan, spread 4 cups of fruit and sprinkle with
2 T Minute Tapioca and 1/2 t cinnamon.
Sprinkle topping over and bake 350 for 40 minutes
or until golden and bubbly.
***
And yes, I had a serving for breakfast, too! ;)

  2. When I saw your first picture, I thought they looked good enough to eat. On second thoughts I'll settle for a helping of the blackberry crisp. (Interesting, we call it crumble not crisp.)

  3. That is one of my favorites too. I like the variation you have in your recipe with the tappiocca and cinnamon. Will try that.

Growing up, we had a row of boysen berriers and my mom made a cobbler with row and rows of pie crust strips...the best breakfast I ever tasted.

Was Taylor happy with the results of the Super Bowl?

  8. My weeping crabapple tree and the neighbor's dwarf crabapple tree were loaded this fall. Then one day I saw a flock of starlings land despite the warning of two robins, they decimated the fruit tree. I thought it might be a local thing so was happy to see you have a happy robin eating something red, like my little crabapples, at your house.

  9. I am enjoying all the pictures of the birds. Our old neighbors (who moved 3 years ago) had a bird feeder between our houses and I loved watching them. Enticed by your pictures, and because we now have a window in our family room free from an old desk hutch we got rid of, I got a bird feeder. But no birds come! Squirrels are liking it, though. Any suggestions?

  10. Abe ~ I think you only live about an hour from me...we might even have the same starlings and robins!

I have starlings who came for the crabapples but once they say the birdseed, they went for the easier meal. :)

  11. mhowe ~ whenever I move my feeder I tie a red ribbon or piece of fabric to it. It helps the birds find it! good luck!

  26. The blackberry crisp sounds yummy. I looked long and longingly at a pack of blackberries at the grocery store last night. I finally had to decide that $5.99 was too much to pay. But, oh how good they looked!
