A Weekend With Rhonda Vincent

Do you know her? I must confess that I've never heard of her! And unless you love bluegrass or country music, you might not have heard of her either! Since 2000, Rhonda Vincent has been named Female Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association 7 times. The Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music named her Contemporary Female Vocalist of the Year 5 times, Traditional Vocalist of the Year 5 times, and Entertainer of the Year 4 times. She has performed and recorded with Dolly Parton, George Jones and Faith Hill. She has been featured at the Grand Ole Opry more than 100 times as well as making numerous appearances CBS, ABC, NBC and PBS.

Taylor and his good friend Daniel left Friday afternoon for Nashville to stay in Ms. Vincent's Nashville, Tennessee home! Daniel's family just happens to be good friends with her and he comes from a long line of bluegrass singers and performers. Taylor isn't a bluegrass fan, but he's a fan of staying in a celebrity's Nashville mansion for a few days! ha. They have tickets to the Grand Ole Opry. I'm sure they'll have a super time!

Any Bluegrass fans out there? Blogger must not be...their spellcheck didn't recognize "Opry". LOL!

  2. I'm jealous! Will Rhonda be there?

The public radio station I listen to plays just about every type of music, including bluegrass on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon.

  3. i've long loved bluegrass music. however, i have to admit i don't keep current on the names of new bluegrass artists.... the weekend folk music radio program I listen to have probably featured rhonda given all these awards, but hers is not a household name here on avenue c!

of course, with a few exceptions (alison krause), the folks i know are old school - earl scruggs, lester flatt, steve earl, doc watson....

wow, how fun for taylor...who knows when he comes home he might be wanting to pick up the banjo!!

  21. I like some bluegrass music. Nickel Creek is a good group. They call themselves progressive acoustic, but they have a bluegrass sound.

Three on a String is a local bluegrass group that's been around for over 35 years. One of the members was a coach at my high school.

  22. Stevie ~ I do like Nickel Creek! A good friend introduced me to them!

  26. Oh, what fun! Yes, I've been a bluegrass fan ever since I saw Earl Scruggs and The Earl Scruggs Review perform when I was in college. I "had" to go for a music appreciation class, and I fell completely in love with blue grass that night.

I haven't heard of this lady because I tend to love the oldie golides like Doc Watson, but I will definitely keep an eye out for her. So glad that your son is going to have this experience! NEAT!

I dropped by tonight from Eddie's blog to meet you in person and to thank you for your comments! I was a little nervous about the interview (and contemplated hiding out forever), but Eddie is so sweet that I couldn't refuse.

    Nice to meet you...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)
