The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly #10

Because some days you need more than others! And in the spirit of keeping it real,
here is a peak at what's been going on in my world lately...
  • Spencer has faked sick at school before. Not only faked sick, but he's poured water on himself, made himself throw up...all sorts of crazy things and then points to the nurse's clinic which means.."Oh, I'm sick and you should call mom!" Well, here's a new twist that I was not expecting. Spencer acted sick at home! He would not get out of bed! I asked if he was sick and he nodded and threw the covers over his head. "OK," I thought, "maybe he is!" I got the other two boys ready. When they left, I saw Spencer tiptoe out to watch them leave! When he saw me, he ran and hid in bed! A few minutes later he was dancing around the house giggling! Hmmm. So, I got him dressed and took him to school! ha. He seemed alright with it and smiled when I left him with his aide. Although, later they told me that he stripped his clothes off and laid on the bathroom floor in protest! haha. They just told him to get dressed and get to class. I told The Mister that if he was not autistic, Spencer would certainly be our black sheep! I could see him sneaking out at night, skipping school, fudging grades on tests, etc, etc. Then we agreed that Alex and Harry would tattle on him! LOL!
  • I was in the grocery the other day and was reading a label on a bottle of shampoo. I happened to touch the bottom of the bottle on my stomach, only to find that the bottle had leaked...leaving a circle of shampoo goo on my shirt. Ugh. Unfortunately I had about 5 errands to run that day...and this was my first stop! ha.
  • I had a my annual mammogram last week. Everything seemed fine...until they called me back for a second screening! Ugh. Of course, everything imaginable goes through your head...like, "Is it cancer? Why do I do these things right before the holidays? Will I loose my hair with chemo?" Etc, etc. Well, 5 x-rays and 2 sonograms later and they said it was nothing...absolutely nothing and I was completely healthy. Whew! And, "Thank you, God!" Still, I did not need that stressful day! Oh my.

  • The Mister had done his last round of yard work last week...raking leaves, one last cutting of the grass and trimming up some things. I didn't pay any attention as I was busy inside...until I was sweeping off the front porch a couple of days later...and noticed that he trimmed the hydrangeas AND the clematis down to the ground! After staring at them in disbelief for a few minutes, I calmly emailed him at work and said. "Hydrangeas and clematis plants do not get trimmed. They look dead, but they come back in the spring." He emailed back and simply said "Oh." LOL! Hmmm....he hadn't trimmed them the other 6 years they had been growing. I guess he was a little too happy with the clippers...which I've since repossessed. :)
  • Alex, who loves to put things away, especially trash and laundry, has of course taken that obsession to an extreme. He had begun to compact the laundry so tightly in the bottom of my vintage wicker hamper that he finally stretched it and the seam came apart in the back. The Mister, who insisted he could fix it, repaired it one day while I was off working at an auction. I admit that I was pleasantly surprised at how good it looked! ...until....I began to do laundry the next day and cut my hand and snagged several sweaters on 3 nails...nails that were sticking out in plain site on the inside of the hamper. Oh dear.... The Mister and his "Jimmy Rigging" again! I calmly returned it to him that evening for a little tweaking. The second repair is much better. :)

So, there you have it! Just another week in the Brock house. :) Some times you just have to laugh! So please laugh with me! Oh my. Sigh.

  5. Spencer is so smart! I know there is so much inside that will come out some day! (On the other hand, there is so much I would like mine to keep inside!) I miss seeing him at school. Our rolls came out just fine, delicious, though not quite as beautiful as yours! Thanks for sharing recipes and all your adventures.

  8. My brother was once caught by my mother sneaking up the back stairs at church. He took one look at her, gasped a little, said, "Cunny coo!" and ran back down the stairs to his Sunday school class. I wonder where he would have ended up has she not surprised him.

PS. I do look forward to your Good, Bad, and Ugly posts. :)

  9. You leave me laughing, and sighing with the episodes in your "normal" life.

So glad your end results of the Mammogram were good. I do remember those same X-rays and Sonograms, and more of the same, and then the call that I had stage one cancer. Yeah, because of mammograms it was caught early. So glad you are doing the annual routine.

Your Mister and my Dearest have much in common when it comes to "fixing" and "trimming"

    Love ya.

  13. You have such a wonderful attitude - I really enjoy reading your posts!

Don't sweat the ring on your shirt - I often run errands with paint on my face, in my hair... usually I have no idea (some day I may learn to check in the mirror before I dash out the door) hee hee

Sending a hug & kiss right back at ya... from the post below. (You are adorable!) Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

  14. Sometimes, I wish life had more dull moments. But then, what would we blog about?

  15. Several years ago I had a mammogram scare. I had all kinds of scary thoughts for a week until a second round of scans revealed there wasn't a problem-they weren't comparing my films to the baseline mammogram correctly.

I had the same problem for the next year, though. It didn't bother me at all (and it DID turn out to be the same issue). Thank goodness the lab seems to have everything straightened out now.

  16. I can relate, I have had days like that and the best thing to do is to laugh so you don't cry :) When you look back later it may seem funny, just not at the time right? I will say a little prayer that December is a wonderful month for you.

  17. I love these post as they offer a sneak into your life.;)
As for the clematis; is that an early summer or late summer blooming one? Mine is a late summer (July-August) and it has to be trimmed in February, before it starts growing new leaves.;) I believe maybe a trimming of yours was in order.;)
    Have a nice Saturday,
    xoxo

I had one of those mammo scares too..not fun, not fun at all...
    Blessings!

  21. Zuzana ~ well, I could see a little trim being in order for the clematis but this was hacking down the 20 ft plant to the ground. :( It will come back...yes...but will start all over in growth. Oh dear me. I think he got confused after taking down the ornamental grasses, which do get completely cut down each fall. LOL!

  22. OH Betsy I AM laughing. Spencer and his antics...he is QUITE good at them. I am a "jimmy rigger" too...not always the best fix.

Bob annihilated my rhubarb last year with of ALL things, a MACHETE! He thought it was a HUGE weed. GAH!

Glad the mammo turned out the way it did although I am SURE you sprouted a new gray hair or two!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jill ~ PLEASE don't let The Mister borrow that machete! haha

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh gosh....you mean I wasn't supposed to cut back the hydrangea and the clematis....oops! Thanks for the heads up on that. I sure hope they come back next year.
Thank you for your bright and cheerful spirit...you're the most positive person EVER! An inspiration...thanks.

  26. Mammograms....A friend sent me this:

Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, but there is no need to worry. By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the exam and doing the following exercises, you will be totally prepared for the test and best of all, you can do these simple exercises right in and around your home.

    EXERCISE ONE:
Open your refrigerator door and insert one breast in door. Shut the door as hard as possible and lean on the door for good measure.

Hold that position for five seconds. Repeat again in case the first time wasn't effective enough.

    EXERCISE TWO:
Visit your garage at 3AM when the temperature of the cement floor is just perfect. Take off all your clothes and lie comfortably on the floor with one breast wedged under the rear tyre of the car. Ask a friend to slowly back the car up until your breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled. Turn over and repeat with the other breast.

    EXERCISE THREE:
Freeze two metal bookends overnight. Strip to the waist. Invite a stranger into the room. Press the bookends against one of your breasts.

Smash the bookends together as hard as you can. Set up an appointment with the stranger to meet next year and do it again.

    YOU ARE NOW TOTALLY PREPARED!

Glad your recall was a false alarm! I guess we should be thankful for the test really.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jenny ~ LOL!!!! Oh that is SOOOO funny! Yes, all of those things are perfect ways to prepare! Oh my...I'm laughing so hard I'm crying! Hilarious!

  28. Oh Betsy,,,,I am laughing so hard...
    1. Spencer is a hoot!!!
    2. Can't believe you didn't make a picture of your shampoo blouse!
    3. Bless your heart for the stress of finding out you are healthy....But so thankful for that fact.
    4. I never allow the trimmers to be turned on unless I am a witness!!!lol Of course I am usually the one using them!
    5. Hamper.....LOL!

  29. You have triplets who are all autistic?! I bet the excitement is nonstop at your house! And I love that he was trying to be sneaky about feeling sick and then you caught him! Too funny! :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Jen's Family ~ yes, autistic triplets...can you believe that? Vaccine induced, in my opinion. Thanks for stopping by! :)

  31. oh Betsy! with your permission I was laughing along with you. thanks! you have such a great approach to Life dear one :-) I'm so happy that the test were negative and maybe it's better that they checked you twice (or more) then less and then have troubles ... I love the new xmas deco on your blog, especially the xmas angel and the cake :-))) happy days to you and yours!!!

  32. And I thought I was the only person who had days like that! And very helpful husbands. VERY helpful husbands! :)

  33. This reminded me of a funny skit in a sitcom that used to crack me up. The kid would complain that he had a sore throat and the mom would look and say, "Well, yes, it IS red". The joke was that the mom never looked to see that his throat, on any day, was red. Don't give Spencer any ideas. Oh, and my husband is banned from pruning without permission. (-:

  34. Oh, Betsy! Bless your heart! Bless your heart!

  35. I'm glad that you can write about and laugh about these things. Such things happen and we are still somehow that much more blessed and lucky because of them!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm still giggling about Spencer's hijinks...especially the part where he takes off all of his clothes in the bathroom...guess he thought there was no way they would make him go to class like that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Glad that mammogram turned out ok foer you! I trimmed my hydrangeas last fall and because of that I had hardly any flowers this spring/summer! I hope this does not happen to you, Betsy!
