The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly Part 9

Because some days you need more than others, and in the spirit of keeping it real, here's a glimpse of recent events with my five men! I leisurely walked to the back doors to look out onto the back porch this morning to find this! I had left a new bag of birdseed on the chair. A raccoon obviously had a really fun time during the night! And you know what? He picked out all of the peanuts! :)
♥♥♥♥♥♥
My DSL router box died. Two days, $100, 5 phone calls, including 3 to technical support men in India, (none of them were very nice!) later and we have Internet again. I don't know who had more withdrawal symptoms...the boys or me! Well, I do...but I won't admit it. :)
♥♥♥♥♥♥
Spencer has developed an aversion to the curtains hanging on the living room windows! Maybe it's because it's the only room in the house that has curtains? The other rooms have blinds only. Maybe he think they are silly! What ever it is, no punishment seems to work. He just keeps sneaking in there when I'm not looking and tugs them down! :)
♥♥♥♥♥♥
One of the few things Spencer eats is turkey. He likes oven roasted deli turkey and I usually buy a whole one at Sam's Club, cube it, and freeze it in weekly portions. This morning I went to the refrigerator to get it out to cut up and couldn't find it. I bought it Tuesday. Yes, it was on my receipt. Not in the refrigerator. Not in the freezer. Yep..you guessed it! Still in the Jeep. 48 hours in 90 degree temperatures. $25 right in the garbage can. The good thing? It was completely sealed and didn't stink up my new wheels! Sigh. With all those boys helping unload groceries, you'd think we could get them all in the house! Ugh.
♥♥♥♥♥♥
But it hasn't all been bad! :)
--I'm still loving my new wheels!
--The sweet corn has been marvelous...
(Heat and rain are good for some things!)
--The boys slept in until 7:00 this morning!
What a treat from their usual 5:30 to 6:00 AM!
(Somehow they missed the memo that
teenagers sleep until noon! )
--And I'm still loving my fresh new bedroom
(Who wouldn't after all that mess! ha!)
♥♥♥♥♥♥
Yes, I'm laughing...so laugh with me! Oh my, oh my....this is a crazy, crazy life! OK...I need more coffee....

  1. I just love how you deal with life and roll with the punches. I am sure that Spencer not loving your living room curtains is not really funny in real life, but it really tickled me to think of him sneaking in there time after time and realizing they were up again and needing to take them down. A man has to do what a man has to do;-) Thank you for sharing your life with us.

  2. Heather ~ It actually has become funny! He isn't damaging the rod or anything. They are held up with cafe clips and he just tugs them down and hides them behind the couch! LOL! Silly kid.

  3. I wish I had your attitude. I've had a horrendous week and I'm wanting to go outside and scream, not ready to laugh about it yet. You inspire me though...

  4. Joanne ~ well, after you scream outside, maybe you can laugh. It does make it easier to live through if you can see the humor in it. Some things don't seem that funny until I start typing it out..then I'm sitting here laughing myself. If nobody is hurt, sick or dead, then I try to see the humor. :) Hugs to you!

I can only imagine that there are times, when a nice few quiet moments to yourself must seem like heaven on earth.
I'm smiling as I read your post, you take everything in it's stride, and Keep Calm and Carry On !

  12. I try to laugh, but some days I am just too exhausted. I have forgotten lately to consider those toys cast about the floor as jewels. (Must remember that...)

    Did you say "more coffee?"

  13. Martha ~ I was telling someone by email last night that I don't ALWAYS laugh. Some days I crumble in a heap and sob my heart out. Life is too painful and hard sometimes. And yes, exhaustion can do that, too. But if the circumstances are merely inconvenient, I do try to make the lemonade from the lemons! :)

  14. I really need to take a page from your book and see the humor in my life the way you see it in yours. What a blessing to be able to do that!

  15. Things WILL get better :-)

The public school here starts about five weeks from now. When do your boys go back?

  16. Kathy ~ this week was the midpoint...6 down, 6 to go. I was feeling pretty good until I realized I was only half way done! Oh my. ha.

  17. Yes, yes, yes! At least the new wheels don't stink. That would be awful and take forever to get the smell out.

  21. You are such an example of how to roll with it in life! Glad your new car doesn't smell. That really would be hard to get rid of.

  23. Sometimes all we can do is laugh and it's good for us. But as you say, somedays crying is all that works. We do what we have to and keep on taking one step at a time. I'm glad you're able to share these moments with us. It helps put all our lives in prespective. Have a great weekend!

  24. Hi! My sister Caroline reads your blog. I love Nugget!

  25. Plenty of "excuses" there for more coffee. Coffee is a good thing!

  26. Ah we have cockatoos that only eat the sunflower seeds in the wild bird seed then splosh the rest all over the verandah. I was wondering what the pong in my boot was the other day . . .bottle of orange juice which by the colour had been there a very, very long time. 7am sleep ins are good but yep, they definitely missed the memo although thanks to mine languishing in bed on Saturday mornings, I get to catch up on blogs. Keep smiling, you're amazing! Cheers :)

  27. OH BOY! That is quite a list! I am always SO MAD when something like the turkey-thing happens but you know what I really thought??? That Spence had gotten it out of the fridge and had stashed it in his room!

    Have a wonderful weekend Betsy!

  28. Izzy ~ hi and welcome! I'm so glad you commented so I know you are reading! :)

  29. Jill ~ well, I probably still wouldn't have found it if he hid it in the house! LOL! I'm just SOOO glad it didn't stink up the jeep. I'm sure it would have been really bad. The Mister wasn't too happy about the rain through the sunroof. Can you imagine it smelling like a dead body was in it? Oh dear. I could have been fired! LOL! ;)

  30. I do believe finding something to laugh at is the healthier thing to do, even if I have to hide my smile from a naughty child.

  31. You are a wise and wonderful woman and mother. You boys will all be a success in life. Loved the story of the mess on the porch. As you get old and they and the grands are all grown up, they are sometimes too many quiet moments, for a mom who raised 6. I am so glad you are enjoying your life as it unfolds. I did too. Blessings

  32. Oh my stars your story reminds of my girlfriend who accidently left a raw chicken in her PT Cruiser, also in the heat of summer. They left for a week to Oregon in their other car to arrive home finding the awful smell in the PT Cruiser and maggots! Everywhere! A repair shop did it's best to dismantle the car and scrap it down but the insurance company decided they would total it out because EVERYTHING inside would have to be replaced!

    You are one lucky gal!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I wish I were more like you. You just take things in stride and move on. I on the other hand... I like your attitude.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Betsy, I totally relate to the turkey left in the car. That is just the sort of thing that happens to me.
As you may know, I have been having my summer break from the antics of teenagers: cell phone dramas abound, teenagers do much of their sleeping during the school day, and mine conatantly ask, "How am I going to use poetry in real life?" (My reply, "It's a mystery!") One of my favorites this past year was a an autistic student who would walk in my class one day announcing that he hated school and throw out assorted profane barbs, and next day when he was in his ROTC uniform, would walk in and say, "Ok, Mrs. L--how do I look?" as he beamed with pride. Rested? Yes, but I miss him.

  35. If I were you I'd have some more fudge sauce!

  38. Betsy, I don;t even know where to begin on your adventures. Crazy indeed. So, when Spencer tears down the curtains do the curtain rods come down and out of the wall too or are they clipped up somehow? what would you do for discipline anyway? Would he get it was for the curtains? Apparently not i suppose actually.

Ohmygoodness, that whoel turkey wasted? Am so glad the car was ok, even if hot in there! LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Mmm~ No, the rods didn't come down. The curtains are held with cafe clips and if you tug on them, they just slip out, leaving the rings and rods inplace. No damage done...just a pain. ha.
Spencer knows right from wrong...he's just very stubborn and that combined with some obsessive compulsions and he just HAS to do it. Discipline usually is just a scolding...and removing him from the room. But like I said..he'll sneak back in and do it again. I'm not opposed to giving him a swat on the butt, which usually works. ha.
