And in the spirit of "keeping it real", here's a look
at what's been going on around here lately.....
-
The school clinic called. Alex threw up. He threw up on Spencer. Could I please come and pick up Alex and bring a change of clothes for Spencer? There was only 2 hours of school left, so I just brought both of them home. Nice going, Alex. But it's better you did this on your brother than on some other non-related student!

As I was leaving to go get the two boys, I realized that The Mister had my wheels. Fortunately, Taylor was home between classes so I took his car. After peeling myself off of the car ceiling from the radio blasting when I turned the ignition, I drove over to school in the pouring rain. I had to scoot a bunch of junk over in the seats to make room for Alex and Spencer...getting soaked by rain....fishing poles, tackle box, water bottles, gym shoes, extra jackets, books...you name it. There was so much stuff that a lady walking by in the parking lot said "Have a nice trip!" She thought I picked up the boys early from school for a little vacation...fishing some where. No...just driving my sons's car. Looks like a homeless person lives in it. Sigh.
-
I gave myself a fat lip. No, really! I bumped my top lip with my thumb nail and gave myself a little cut and fat lip. One of those freak accidents that is hard to explain to someone without them giving you a strange look. (I see that look on your face!) So, I have that sexy, full-lipped pout that so many women are paying big bucks for. LOL!
- Earlier in the week, the boys' teacher sent a note home. Their behavior for the day had been downgraded from the usual "good" to just "OK". Apparently Harry and Spencer didn't wait for their aide when they left Art Class. They ran on ahead of her...back to their regular classroom...racing to see who could get back first to ask for Free Time on the computer. I actually had to just laugh...this is SO them! I'm surprised it hasn't happened before now. Alex, who was in Social Studies at the time, kept his "good" grade for the day.
- Last August, Taylor rolled through a stop sign on a deserted road just out of town and got stopped by the sheriff. The sheriff was so apologetic for the ticket and said normally he would just give a warning, but there had been 3 accidents at that corner recently. He told Taylor he would get the ticket in the mail. If he intended to pay, he did not need to show up in court. So, we waited...no ticket! We thought maybe the kind sheriff just didn't turn it in, seeing he was so reluctant to give it in the first place. In the busyness of life, we completely forgot about it.....until this week when Taylor received a letter saying his license was revoked for failure to appear in court and pay his ticket! Yikes! We have to make some phone calls Monday and get this taken care of and his license reinstated. Meanwhile, I'm chauffer again...neither of us too happy about that! LOL!
- On the good side...we received an anonymous cash gift this week! We have no idea who would do such a generous, encouraging thing! Must be from one of God's angels here on earth! I don't think this person would have any idea how timely this gift was or how appreciative we are! Maybe this person reads my blog and saw that I was making mittens out of old sweaters and felt sorry for us. LOL! Anyway, what a wonderful thing, huh?! Just makes us forget all about court dates, the rain, messy cars, throw-up and running in the halls at school! LOL! Happy week everyone...hope your days are happy....keep a sense of humor and remember that it could always be worse! :)
You are an amazing lady!!! And definitely REAL!!!! I truly admire you! And I wish you a wonderful week! YOU definitely DESERVE it!!!! ~Janine XO
ReplyDeleteYou're a marvel... you manage to be witty in the telling of some might stressful stuff. Have to say I giggled at the depiction of the lady wishing you a good trip. :) I reckon you deserve an outrageous chocolate cookie, or three.
ReplyDeleteBPG ~ you know I needed an excuse to eat that third cookie! ha! Now I have it...the beautiful BPG said that I deserve it! :)
ReplyDeletei love it when angels come through like that. smiles.
ReplyDeletegot a good snicker out of a few of those...i went through something similar recently rolling a stop sign...missing court...luckily they never sent it to the dmv so i just paid it at the courthouse...hope that its that easy for you all...enjoy those fat lips...lol.
hope you all have a great weekend.
Brian ~ I thought of you and your recent angel when this happened! ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your outlook on life! Thanks for sharing your week.
ReplyDeleteBetsy! I DO SO appreciate you!!
ReplyDeleteYou are one of the GOOD ones!
Thanks for keepin' it real baby!
Thanks for your sweet comment on my Niece's wedding, it is a GRAND memory now!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome to hear how your family was blessed this week! God is faithful!
Betsy ... there are definitely angels among us ..... enjoy the day!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Taylor's license woes were stressful for all of you, but nothing compared what happened to Son #3 a while back. He got a ticket (for not having the proper insurance paperwork in his car, of all things) and forgot to take care of the ticket. When he didn't appear in court, they put out a bench warrant for his arrest.
ReplyDeleteSome time later he got arrested. He was taken to the police station,fingerprinted...the whole rigamarole. Fortunately, he had enough cash on him to post his bail, so he didn't have to call me in the middle of the night.
I'm pretty sure he'll be remembering to take care of any more tickets he receives in a timely fashion!
Kathy G ~ oh my...no, this isn't as stressful as all of that! Oh dear, oh dear! I'm glad you didn't have to get that call!
ReplyDeleteYou made one big mess into something very uplifting! That is a very special thing to be able to do!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, this is real life. Aren't you glad you made chocolate cookies?! A little extra sweetness is needed sometimes.
ReplyDeletePraise God for the anonymous gift! What a blessing.
Here's hoping everything gets straightened out with Taylor's license very soon, and that no one vomits for a long, long time! In the mean time, "Have a nice trip!" -- life is a journey, afterall!
Christian ~ yes, so true! And you are extra witty tonight! :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say I loved every word of this post. You have such a great...how shall I put it... I don't know, everything delights you and therefore it delights your readers. I LOVED the description of everything that is in your son's car and the "have a nice trip," comment from the woman. Well, this post just made me happy.
ReplyDeleteLynne ~ well, good...I hope my readers are laughing with me! I may not have been laughing at the moment, but I am now! :) You just can't make this stuff up! ha!
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to be reminded that amongst the banes the blessings still shine through. Even more encouraging is the fact that you appreciate and focus on the blessings laugh at the banes!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your week of challenges. Speaking for myself, I can empathize with you very much. (At one time I had two teenagers, and was trying to drive everyone to two different schools that were 15 miles apart and started within 30 minutes of each other... but I digress.)
Good thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Warmly,
Tracey xox
Hi Betsy. Oh girl, I realy feel for you, what a week!
ReplyDeleteI so enjoyed the video of the boys a few posts back. Wish them a happy belated birthday from us.
I often worry what our kids are missing but there is a silver lining. We were at a 50th birthday party tonight and so many of our friends are fretting about the kids going off to college and the empty nest. I had to smile because I know our nest will be full for a long time. We get to experience the innocence and awe of childhood for much longer than most parents!
Hugs,
Dawn
oh man. life eh?
ReplyDeletebut how great about the anonymous gift
:-)
These are my favorite posts of yours. I read them several times. I laughed out loud reading that you had to peal your self off the ceiling in your sons car and the Lady wishing you a great trip! What a great read.;)
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Sunday and a lovely week.;)
xoxo
Ah, another day in the life of you and your five men!
ReplyDeleteWho hasn't rolled through a stop sign.....The car description was so funny! Something about going to college, they want ALL of their belongings in the car and ready to roll/lol
ReplyDeleteI just love to read about your weeks Betsy, although stressful you add a smile to the stories....Have a good week!!!!!
Hi Betsy,
ReplyDeleteAnd I thought I had a trying week. God Bless you honey. You have a lot on your plate and you carry it with dignity and grace. That is why a little Angel sent something your way.
Hugs to you and your men.
Barb
Dawn ~ oh, that is so true. I don't think our nest will ever be empty! We'll just all grow old together. We always tell Taylor that he'll have to take care of all of us. That's enough to make him want to move far, far away! ha-ha!
ReplyDeleteWillow ~ I haven't thought of that seal skin pillow in ages. It was the most amazing fur!
ReplyDeleteYou face the challenges of life with faith, grace and humor. No wonder the angels are attracted to you!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had your week of excitement... I wish I had had that nice sheriff when I got my speeding ticket this past May... first ever !!... Little did the officer know I was talking to my Cathy much faster... like about 90 mph....
ReplyDeleteThe Bach
Bach ~ well, the sheriff was nice, but he still got the ticket instead of a warning!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, I love your outlook. You've got to laugh about stuff like these mishaps. Isn't God good to send you encouragement right when you need it?
ReplyDeleteHumor -a little or a lot -sometimes that what we do have to employ when life hands us some stuff that isn't so hot. I could relate to so many of the things you wrote about here -making the best of a bad situation with the boys and the barf; having to clean your son's car to find places for the boys to sit and I thought for a minute, while reading about the cut lip that you could have written that about me cause I always manage to do things that are so small, so stupid at times too, but that end up somehow giving me a cut or mark, bruise, whatever! I think it's probably because I must have majored in being a klutz!
ReplyDeleteSo nice to know I am far from being alone in living high with Murphy and his laws!
I guess my Hubby passed his freak puffy lip over the internet waves to you. His just went away, but not before the dentist had time to bump it a lot when he got his first root canal this week. :)
ReplyDeletePersonally, no throw up is good. Did Spencer make him mad? Maybe Spencer beat him at a race earlier and no one knew about it!
I saw your sidebar...you need to tell us your dream, after you go find that website that tells you what it meant.
Oh, pouted lipped one--
ReplyDeleteThis has definitely become my favourite posts of your each week, or whenever the muse hits.
Really, what to comment on first? The sick episode, the ticket, or perhaps the car packed like your going on vacation? Hmm...well, the one I relate to the most is the "peeling myself off of the car ceiling from the radio blasting" from one's older child! Well....except I didn't them turn off the ignition. But I can so picture that. Funny.
Thank God for his little angels right here, hey? Wonderful... and I'm sure jsut the encouragement to buoy one's spirits in such times.

ReplyDelete"You have a lot on your plate and you carry it with dignity and grace. That is why a little Angel sent something your way."
ReplyDelete--Barb above says it so well!
P.S. I just had to comment on your comment on Taylor. I have though before on how he does indeed have a lot on his shoulders, knowing one day the situation at hand. I pray he goes strong, faithful and full of fortitude. I'm quite sure your family is teaching him lots of that already.
Keep it real, always.
Betsy,
ReplyDeleteYou see the black but also the white.
The dark and also the light.
The rain and also the bow.
The bad and also the good.
The down and also the up.
The inside and also the out.
The sad and also the happy.
This is why we all appreciate you.
still laughing at the idea of you and the stereo! i remember those days...now i drive in utter silence...so funny!
ReplyDeleteyou are such a blessing...glad you were blessed by someone! God is so good!
Christine ~ what a cute little poem...love it! :)
ReplyDeleteGranola ~ oh me, too! I used to blast the stereo in my car and now I drive in silence! I love my silence and the radio just seems like an intrution. :)
ReplyDeleteyou are just as funny as Erma Bombeck - ever thought of writing a book? I'm sure you have plenty of spare time and could finish it in no time :)
ReplyDeleteAs always, it is a pleasure to read your posts Betsy. You never let things get you down - and, in my book, that is true courage.
ReplyDeleteOh my, an angel, indeed! I could sure go for one of those cookies:-)
ReplyDeleteI am just catching up. I love these "regular life" posts. Although I suppose some of it isn't funny at all at the time. I had to laugh at the running in the halls. That's the only time I got a spanking at school, was for running in the halls. But I deserved it, because a few days prior I had spitefully told on some other kids for running because they left me behind! So then when they caught me running , you can bet they told on me.
ReplyDeletei so enjoy reading these good, bad, ugly posts. you open your heart and your life to us in such a charming way. our all-knowing, all-giving god does always find a way, even if it is a mysterious one!
ReplyDeleteI needs to get me one o'them thar biiiiig coffee cups!
