"Artists can color the sky red because they know it's blue.
Those of us who aren't artists must color things the way
they really are or people might think we're stupid."

  3. PS Well, because I am obviously an airhead, part of my comment was for Blah, Blah, Blah at http://blalockm.blogspot.com/ I jumped around and forgot where I was. Sorry about that.

  4. I do remember when I was at Junior School doing a painting which had the sky green. The teacher was loathe to stifle my creativity and said something like "interesting interpretation". The fact is that I had just run out of blue paint.

  5. Red is a beautiful colour, as it is present in nature in subtle amounts.;)

  17. funny comment above. so....do they pop out as supermen then? Well, they already are, right? :)

You know, there was a time when the daft Labour London council tried to scrap the traditional phone booths, citing them far too outdated, expensive, etc. Booths were torn up all over the city and replaced with bright yellow NY-style plastic molded chest high models. It wasn't long before publich outrage had the better of them and realising, just how iconic they are, they eventually gave in and had to re-replace the traditional booths! during this same time, the council also tried to replace the traditional London double decker. they succeeded in eliminating the older style buses with those where you pay to get on, eliminating the bus conductors, but they didn't get to have their utilitarian utopian ideal realised in the end. Thank goodness.

  20. Beautiful photos each and every one.
I would love a slice of Red Velvet Cake...

  21. Mmm ~ that would be terrible if GB took away the double deckers and those classic phone booths! Some of us who have never been there associate those icons with the country...well, I bet a lot of people do...even those who live there. Those...plus Big Ben, tall bear-skin hats and a monarchy!

  22. WT's mother used to make him that red velvet cake for his birthday every year. I've always been a little leery of it, since it has a whole bottle of red food coloring.

    Love red.

  23. Willow ~ so THAT is what's wrong with WT! tee-hee! Actually, my recipe calls for 2 whole bottles!

  26. Hi Betsy

you have a varied collection of reds...I was going to ask about the cake but see you mentioned the food colouring...I am surprised he survived childhood ....

  27. Delwyn ~ yes, it is called Red Velvet Cake...a well known cake here in the states...usually associated with Christmas. It has a chocolate flavor from cocoa but has all that coloring in it for the red. And cream cheese frosting...yum! (but not so yummy if you have reactions to artificial dyes!)

  28. Lovely reds, Betsy. You know, for being a red head who has never minded being a red head I've never had a strong affinity for the color. Go figure.
