A good start to the school year....

I've had several people ask me how the boys are doing as they have started back to school this year. Well they are doing great! The Special Ed teacher that we liked so much last year has returned! We did have one aide that has been with the boys since kindergarten that Alex just didn't get along with. Each year would get progressively worse! In fact, we think she would purposefully provoke him! It's hard to prove when it's just her word against a non-verbal child! But teacher and principal had their suspicions and were keeping an eye on her. Anyway, she retired! Yippee! And the new aide is wonderful and the mom of an autistic boy herself. Best of all, Alex seems to like her...giving her a kiss the third day of school. :) I was praying that Alex would get along with the old aide. Sometimes God gives you 'beyond what you could ask for or even imagine' and just gives you a whole new aide! LOL! The picture is the guys getting off the bus this afternoon. I didn't mean for the tree to cover their faces, they were just walking really fast! I don't normally dress them alike, 'cause that's just not what 'normal' 15-year-olds would do, right? But sometimes you just have to wear the only clean clothes left in the closet! :)

  5. How cute that they are all dressed alike!!! Occasionally my girls (same age but not looking anything alike) will wear the same or very similar thing. I don't even ask why. There personalities are so different it makes no sense whatsoever to me!

Wonderful news about the aide, and so glad that Alex likes her so much.

I enjoyed your comment on my Udderly Smooth.... I so agree, we could have fun laughing together... It is the best medicine.

  13. It flew by so fast I can hardly remember. A neighbor and I would rotate days on bringing/picking up the kids.

Seems like only yesterday ; )

  15. Woo-hoo! Thanks for the update, I was wondering how school was going. It's always encouraging when the start of a new school year is a smooth one.

  16. I love the matchy matchy! I love that you can send your boys to school wearing white shirts and have them come home still clean!
Our prayer as answered, indeed! Boo to Alex's old aide, hooray for the new one! We've been having troubles with our bus aide to the point where I just took Clee off the bus. Luckily Clee has a sister who protects him and plays the role of my eyes and ears when I'm not around. It's hard to trust people to take care of someone you love that can't speak. I wonder why some people get into the field of special ed, if they don't genuinely have a passion for it?
    Happy new school year!

  17. Natalie ~ we've asked ourselves that questions sooo many times! It takes a unique person with a love of special needs kids to be in those positions. If you don't have it, why get into it? And yay for Emme to keep an eye out for Clee! :)

  19. Hi Betsy! It always means so much when our kids begin the school year on a positive note!

Carl, my son, was in special education through high school (where he was in a mainstream program) .... we were so fortunate to have that available in the late 60's and beyond!

Keep up the good work. And a big HELLO to the boys!

  21. Betsy ~ you have a biscuit jar on one of your sidebar pics. I think it's a new picture, or at least I hadn't noticed it before, and here I just talked about my biscuit jar. I love yours too!

I know this is off topic, but I'd already left another comment last night. :)

--Betsy, that is wonderful news. I am so happy for your family. That couldn't be better.

I laughed at the photo. Thought you were trying to be artsy or something. Hee.

Haven't been around in ages. Too much going on and alot of it not really bloggable.

  23. Mmm ~ really...those matching shorts and white t's! I hadn't wanted to make them match while a new aide tried to tell them apart.

"stuff that's not really blogable" I can relate to that!...you know you can email me any time! :)

  26. I am so happy they are liking school and Praise the Lord for His answered prayers. You must be so happy. Plus a kiss on the 3rd day. Hooray for our team!!!

  27. Yay for the new aide! That's a cute picture. It's kind of funny because even though you can only see one face you know the other faces look very similar. My sister worked for 10 years with multi-handicapped kids and LOVED it. She would get so excited about a child pointing to something on their communication board, for instance. She learned to celebrate all the special little things in life - and all the special little people!

  28. Rozilla ~ yes, you are right...just one face and you've really seen them all! LOL!

SO GLAD that the new aide is COOL and the old one is gone!
