"I once had a sparrow alight
upon my shoulder for a moment,
while I was hoeing in a village garden,
and I felt that I was more distinguished
by that circumstance than I should have been
by any epaulet I could have worn."
Henry David Thoreau (1817 - 1862)

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely Henry ditty! He had a way with the world AND words, didn't he? Thanks for the mighty fine read. Good day to you! P.S. Tweet-tweet, little birdie-- you have a way with the words, too!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is all about simple things. I know you like birds a lot as you post about them often; I could not agree more.;)
ReplyDeleteI love that.
ReplyDeleteAwww, that's sweet. We had a peach faced love bird that sat on my son's head. But if I came in the room, it pretty much attacked me. I only like outside birdies.
ReplyDeleteI've seen that quote before and heartily agree.
ReplyDeleteOh, I like that, poem and picture.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it sweet? The closest I've come to this is a robin following me along as I worked the soil in my garden. She seemed happy that I was exposing the worms for her. No landing on me, though! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely. I had to look up epaulet as I had no idea what that was...you contributed to my higher learning today!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Everytime I visit you I am inspired to "consider the birds of the air," and be reminded of how God takes care of even the smallest of creatures.
ReplyDeletewouldn't that be just a once-in-a-lifetime thing. i'd want the bird to be a little wren or maybe a chickadee. they are my favorite birds!!
