Metamorphasis Monday = Master Bath

Remember several weeks ago when I was stripping
wallpaper? Well this is the bathroom that I was tackling!
If you feel like you stepped back into the 1980's, it's
because that's how old this decor was!
Here are some lovely 'before' pictures.
This seperate room has the toilet and shower in it...

The paper was already coming off in some places!

Here's the sink and closet area.

Nice and big with lots of sun from the skylight.

Since the budget didn't allow for new counter tops, I had to come up with something to coordinate with that pink! I found this article in Martha Stewart and since I love gray, it was perfect!

So here's the gray paint....so much calmer and soothing than that wallpaper! I did try a light blue on the ceiling of this shower area. I had always wanted blue ceilings but was surprised when it didn't really work like I thought it would. It's very subtle and this tiny area was the perfect place to

try something like that. You never know if you don't try, right? I will paint it white someday.

Garage sale metal baskets are a nice change...

We're keeping organized with all these hooks!
I put a darker gray on the cupboards and
new brushed nickel hardware.
I was surprised how much bigger it all appears!
This bath opens up into our bedroom. And yes...
more wallpaper. Sigh. I still have the paint cans
and scrapers in the corner....so I'll have to begin
the next phase soon!
hosts Metamorphasis Monday. Others who have done
recent red0's have posted their links on her entry today.
Go check them out, too...I know I will!

  1. Oh, I love the gray and it does look bigger. The dark gray on the cabinets and the light gray on the walls do make the pink counters look like you chose them. The bathroom looks just gorgeous. A lot of hard work, but so pretty. Hugs, Marty

  2. Wow! What a wonderful re-do! I love the paint color, both the walls and the cabinets. I'm a big fan of hooks in the bathroom, rather than a towel bar. You did an excellent job!

  5. Betsy, you've done an incredible job of transforming your bath! I love that gray. I've been wanting to paint my bedroom that color for a couple of months now. I just can't work up the gumption to tackle it. You've inspired me! Great job!

ps The thrifted baskets are fantastic. I love the way you introduced the pink by the addition of the shell.

  6. Stevie ~ thanks! I'm going to do the bedroom in the same gray...but all that wallpaper needs to come off first. I dread it! The color is so soothing, I know you'll love it if you do it!

  9. Betsy, that looks fantastic!!! I think you picked a fantastic color that really does work with your pink countertops. It looks bigger because your walls aren't so cluttered up now with that patterned wallpaper!

I've never had to strip more than a border on the top of a room, and usually Hubby ended up doing most of it. That's about the extent of our military quarter decorating in the past. I can't imagine the toiling that took. You should have started with the bigger room so you'd have a smaller one to do second...then it wouldn't be so bad maybe.

    Beautiful!

  19. The look is very clean, crisp. I like it.
You have nerves of steel to paint your cabinets. I wish I had that confidence in myself to attempt something so drastic.
I just don't have a very creative mind. I am going to "steal" your idea of hooks in the bathroom, though.
Justin needs a new towel rack and the hooks are a very different idea.

You can come do my bathroom any time.

  23. Oh my goodness, this was just the post I needed! I've been staring at my own pink bathroom lately trying to figure out what to do with it. We have pinkish counters and floor. The budget is not there right now for a remodel so I need to paint and work with it for now. I just love the gray! It looks fantastic. Great job.

  24. Momovthree ~ oh great! I'm glad you stopped by! I think the gray is a great way to coordinate with the pink and give it some class...leave it to Martha Stewart, huh! You'll have to post pics when you get finished!

  25. Absolutely STUNNING! I love the gray and pink. It looks gorgeous. Good job! I have some work to do on mine and this is a good reminder that it will be well worth the effort. You may take a much needed rest today - we're boarding the Orient Express and the comfortable chairs in the Pullman car are just the thing for you!

  28. Wow, you've made a fantastic job of it. When we renovated our bathroom about 18 months ago, the ceiling was so tobacco stained (late fil) that the painter painted it a lovely shade of blue and it looks much better.

  30. Ok, I just commented, and it gave me some kind of crazy message.

Really like the make over. Love the gray, I wouldn't go white later. The gray looks way to nice to change it. I've always liked pink and gray together. Very nice.

  33. What a beautiful redo, Betsy! I love the gray walls. Very calming. Thank you for your encouragement last week. I hope that your "I won't get sick" chant works. If not, some warm chicken soup is in order. Can that be sent through comments??

  34. Wow, looks great! I wasn't sure when you said grey, but it really works.

  35. I guess you are too young to remember when there was no white or colored wall paint. It was either white enamel for woodwork or nothing. So almost all houses were papered. My mom used to clean a 9x12 room for $20.00 -- with playdough smelling wallpaper cleaner.

I do think you did a great job on fixing this up. It sure look nice to me.

  36. Wonderful! Well done Betsy! It looks gorgeous. If you're still feeling a bit under the weather, and it's a cold or something, do consider trying the oil of oregano - it's foul but it works. Your health food store would carry it.

  37. The gray works beautifully with the pink counters. And those wire baskets are just the perfect touch. Very nice! Linda

  42. By the way - I love your new banner. Spring is a comin'!!

  43. Dear Betsy,
You're so lucky to have an ensuite. The color you chose really lights up the room. You really had a classy taste.

Now I realized we really have a terrible home. We got 3 T/B and none of them is inside our master's BR. The designer of our home is out of his mind when he made the design and we too are in a far away land so when we get to see our home, i really felt dissapointed. Anyway, we'll do the renovations later. maybe after 10 more years.. :(

  44. Suza ~ Yes, spring is coming! It's raining instead of snowing today! But it could still snow in March, and usually does! I'm trying not to get TOO excited! :)

2L3B ~ yes, we are very lucky to have a masterbath (that's what we call them) Many of my friends don't and share with the kids.
The layout of our house is quite nice..it's just that it's getting to the age where everything is needed repairing or replacing! The two sinks is an added bonus....just in case me and the Mister are brushing our teeth at the same time! ha-ha!

  45. I love your bathroom transformation! They grey is wonderful. I need to strip the paper in my bathroom but just can't face it yet. I think paint will be a much better option. Just sooooooooo much work to scrape, texture, paint & trim out. I think I need another cup of coffee. Lucky you to be done!
