Autumn Colors

O Autumn, laden with fruit, and stain’d
With the blood of the grape, pass not, but sit
Beneath my shady roof; there thou may’st rest,
And tune thy jolly voice to my fresh pipe,
And all the daughters of the year shall dance!
Sing now the lusty song of fruits and flowers.
“The narrow bud opens her beauties to
The sun, and love runs in her thrilling veins;
Blossoms hang round the brows of Morning, and
Flourish down the bright cheek of modest Eve,
Till clust’ring Summer breaks forth into singing,
And feather’d clouds strew flowers round her head.
“The spirits of the air live in the smells
Of fruit; and Joy, with pinions light, roves round
The gardens, or sits singing in the trees.”
Thus sang the jolly Autumn as he sat,
Then rose, girded himself, and o’er the bleak
Hills fled from our sight; but left his golden load.
~~William Blake
Sometimes in Ohio the brilliant leaves can only be enjoyed a couple of weeks as a storm can
blow through and take all the leaves away too early! This season seems to have lasted a nice
long time and the colors can be enjoyed against very blue skies. I feel like I need to take it
all in...winter will be here before we know it!

  1. We've noticed here in Ohio the leaves are a lot prettier than last year.

  5. I always get a little *homesick* for Ohio in the fall. The autumns in the Cincy area were always so beautiful! We are having a gorgeous fall here in Alabama, although the leaves are now past their peak.

  6. Lora ~ I'm sure our temps are just a bit cooler up here and maybe that's what makes the difference. The Cincy area is a beautiful place to live...I can see why you miss it! I live just an hour north!

  7. Ahhhh, I am enjoying autumn's brilliance so much this year. We had a heavy shower over the weekend that knocked a lot of leaves from the trees but things are still pretty although past their peak.

I agree with Lora, I'm always a bit homesick for Ohio in the fall. The leaves in Victorian Village in Columbus are always stunning.

Thank you for praying for our friends.

  8. How I love William Blake!

Breathtaking photographs...such lovely vibrant colors...We had some winds this weekend blowing a lot of the leaves off the trees...more raking for us this week...

You're only an hour north of Cincy? Wow..We're closer than I thought..Have you been to Waynesville? The antique shops there are lovely.

  11. Betsy, our fall peak colours have subsided....and today we had snow flurries, but luckily, none of it stuck. Your images are so gorgeous here. No wonder fall seems to be everybody's favourite season. Here's hoping no big bad Ohio wind blows them all away too soon...

  12. Nice pictures. Fall is my favorite time of the year. The trees are starting to get bare in the PNW, and winter looks to be coming, even though it is still nice out.

  13. Girl, changing your header must be the only thing that keeps you from moving your furniture around all the time...I'm convinced of it!!! I don't know where you get all these cute, sometimes beautiful pics, but I always enjoy them.

We are past our peak here in Michigan, although it was beautiful for a while. We've had snow showers or snow flurries since yesterday morning. There was even a tiny bit of accumulation on the cars this morning...nothing that didn't blow away...but still. Someone at my husband's office said we have now entered the six-month period of no sunshine. Hmmm....

  14. Kayren ~ Oh my! I don't know if I'm ready for snow! But if you live in Michigan, I guess you better be! Are you very far north?
Don't get me wrong...snow is beautiful, too! In fact, winter used to be my favorite season...but I think fall and spring have become the favorites as I get older!

I have more than one vintage postcard for Thanksgiving, so just had to give them all a chance as the header! :) I don't move furniture around...but I'm really itching to do some painting!
