Aren't they sweet? I try to keep baked ones in the freezer so when I get an order all I have to do is the icing. I love the way the moon is sleeping! :)
Betsy, I'd love to hear a little more about your business(?). You take orders so I assume you have a little (or big) home-based operation going. How did you get started? Is it just cookies?
Modgirl ~ Yes, it's a little homebased business! It started with a gift basket that I made to take to a baby shower as a gift from myself. It had a stuffed animal, a little outfit, and other cute baby things in it. Someone at the shower loved it and asked if I would be willing to make up a similar one for her as she had another shower to attend the following week. She said to make sure I raised the price enough to make a little profit. So...it just grew from there! After several months, I had an open house with samples of probably a dozen different themed baskets (chocolate, tea, etc) and took orders...kind of as an official kick off to let people know I was serious about it. That was 18 years ago! I do cakes and cookies, too...that was just a sideline to friends who liked my baking, so when I had business cards printed, I made it for gift baskets, cakes and cookies. It's been extremely fun...you get the fun of shopping but with the twist of turning a profit. And the creative outlet is something I really enjoy. If you are considering doing something like this I would encourage you to do it! You are creative and there's nothing like being your own boss and working from home! You can email me, too, if you have more questions!
MG ~ yes, a lot of the success of my little business comes from being in a little college town. I get a lot of business from the university and from people in my church. Whatever you choose to do, I know you will be great at it. You could try etsy....just to see what happens! :)
Seriously! Did you make these? I have always wanted to decorate cookies with a steady hand--it just doesn't happen. These are lovely...and I'm sure, delicious!
Oh my goodness! Betsy, those are beautiful... and precious! What artistry. You are so, so talented. I am amazed.
ReplyDeleteI know there are too happy families who will be delighted with your cookies.

ReplyDeleteWow, 18 years ago... before any of your boys were born. I'm sure that you've established quite a name for yourself in your little village!
ReplyDeleteI dream of stuff like that... etsy, or more locally based... but haven't felt led to really pursue it yet. Fun to think about, though.
Wish we could chat over tea and some of your yummies.
