Tossing and Turning

“Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee,
and just as hard to sleep after."
Anne Morrow Lindbergh

This happens to me all the time! Seems the husband and I don't get to talk alone until late in the evening.

Then when I get into bed, I can't turn off my mind! Maybe we need to start emailing during the day instead!

  2. I do okay as long as I leave the coffee alone. In fact, since I quit drinking coffee, I'm sleeping better at night. I do miss it though...so much!

  3. Willow ~ I'm alright as long as I don't have a conversation that gets my mind spinning!

  4. granola ~ yes, you are right...and if he stays up late to work, I can't sleep because his side of the bed is empty! Everything has to be just so....then I can sleep! :)

  5. Poor Betsy. To talk or to sleep is a horrible choice to have to make. I do like the illustrations you used though.

    How about an afternoon siesta?

  6. Betsy, I can relate! I have often said to my mother and certain friends who suffer from the same affliction that we should start the "4 a.m. and I'm awake" Club. I am sure we would have numerous members in no time. Would you like to bring that amazing blueberry coffee cake to the next meeting? :)

  7. I don't think that an email is a sily idea at all! Go for it girl! The more communication in any form the better.

  8. I'm starting the "nap" club!

  9. Can you email each other during the day? That is one up-to-date way of getting back and forth. I like your photos.

I have been dealing with rheumatoid arthritis in my hands. The chemotherapy drug doesn't stop the pain so my typing is limited. Sorry.

  10. Stevie ~ once I'm asleep I'm good...it's just getting there! I've never been a nap person...don't know why!

  11. Suza ~ Well, I would be great at a midnight club! I'm afraid when I do fall asleep, I'm dead to the world...even at 4am! How about I prepare the coffee cake at midnight and set it out for you 4am'ers to enjoy? :)

  12. Marie ~ we do send the occassional little email back and forth, but not a long, involved conversation. :)

  13. Stevie ~ that first painting of the coffee actually painted with coffee!

  14. Blog Princess ~ I can't believe you haven't started that club yet! You are the Princess of the Siesta! :)

  15. Abe ~ I hope you feel better soon! I still enjoy hearing from you, so thanks for the effort when typing is painful! Take care of yourself! :)

  16. In my experience, weighty issues, topics, or problems should never be discussed or thought of at night. Easier said than done, true!

  17. Lavinia ~ you hit the nail on the head! I'm not talking pleasantries...but heavier subject that I can't turn off with the bedside lamp! It doesn't happen every night, but when it does I lay there a couple of hours thinking.

  18. I get wound up after watching a good movie and usually like to talk about it for awhile when hubby can't even stay awake to watch it..LOL!!!:-)...He's in class all day and can't email me anymore so I can relate to this...

  19. Yep, that happens to me too... sometimes. Most of the time once the kids are down I'm too tired to have a coherent, serious conversation. Those tend to happen early in the morning before the boys are up.

  20. Rebecca ~ I can relate to the sleeping hubby! I love NASCAR and every Sunday afternoon I turn to him on the couch to say something and he's sound asleep with his mouth hanging open! LOL He usually falls right to sleep at night, too, no matter what we've just talked about.

  21. Modgirl ~ maybe that's what I should do...get up before the kids! I do enjoy my conversations with him, though, no matter what time of day. We have no secrets and I can tell him anything. He's great to bounce problems off of and he will be honest and tell me if he agrees or disagrees. He can tell me if an issue or person is worth my energy, if I'm petty or justified in my thinking...so I know it's worth the conversation even if my mind is still working long after he's asleep. :) I may try the morning conversations, though!

  23. Mmm ~ yes, I think it must be a female thing!

  24. Betsy...I know what you mean...it happens to me now and then. Usually when we talk about something that is worrying me, after going to bed, I continue running things through my mind..until I have solved my problem. I cannot relax. It's one of those..."good grief" nights :)

  25. Deedee ~ yes, I think it is usually something that is bothering me and I worry about it. I don't remember happy thoughts every keeping me awake...just sweet dreams in that case!

  26. We used to stop everything at 9pm to talk - each got 10 uninterrupted minutes. It always went longer than the alotted 20 minutes....and then our kids grew up to be teenagers who don't respect the 9pm rule. Email is a help though - it gets all the business out of the way.
