I'd be a fish.
For just a day or two.
I'd flip and flash,
and dart and splash,
with nothing else to do.
With never anyone to say,
“Are you quite sure you washed today?”
I'd like it…
Wouldn’t you?

And being the tomboy that I was...
I did try to get out of taking a bath!
I remember running the tub water without
getting in, and rubbing soap on my neck
in case anyone tried to smell me. :)
that poem reminds me of a children's song I used to love...but now I can't think of the name of it! I'll be scratching my head on that one for a while...
ReplyDeleteI was (and i guess I'll forever be) a tomboy!
The poetry is full of memories.
ReplyDeleteDelightful poem, you conniving little non-bather! I think I should like to be a fish... for a little while.
ReplyDeleteBetsy...your such a sweetheart..your mother I know had fun watching you grow up :)
ReplyDeleteYou are not going to believe this, but I have a little post with a poem from the same pink book of poems ready to go for tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that poem :) It's funny, I just posted something about the fact that I was (still am) a tomboy & then I came here and saw your comment about being a tomboy. Congrats on your Blog Award!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny!
ReplyDeleteBetsy, what a cute poem. I can relate..I was the child who ran around barefoot all day and went to bed with the dirtiest feet imaginable...
