Chunky BBQ Sauce

1/2 package bacon, diced
1 bunch fresh thyme leaves
olive oil
1 onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, chopped
2 c ketchup
1/2 c brown sugar
1/2 c molasses
2 T wine vinegar
1 T dry mustard
1 t cumin
1 t paprika
black pepper
Saute bacon and thyme in olive oil over med. heat.
Add onion and garlic and simmer until tender, not brown.
Add remaining ingredients and simmer on low up to 1 hour.
I tried this sauce recipe a few days ago for BBQ chicken.
It belongs to Tyler Florence on the Food Network.
It was my first recipe using fresh herbs from my garden!
Very different and delicious!
Makes a lot and keeps in the refrig well.

  1. My mouth just watered! I've never tried making a bbq sauce before but if you and Tyler approve, this is the one I must make. :)

I assume it's for basting and coating afterwards?

  4. I'm printing this recipe as I write! It sounds so yummy and I have all the ingredients except the fresh thyme. I'll have to try this soon. I'm thinking crock pot chicken simmered all day in this sauce.
